PM discusses investment with Donald Trump

Trump

American billionaire, Donald Trump, are among persons Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit had discussions with in New York last week to seek ways of investing in Dominica.

PM Skerrit told a radio programme the keen interest expressed by foreign investors comes as a result of government’s management of the country.

He says government has set the environment for doing business in Dominica.

“I came from New York this week and I had discussions with several persons, Donald Trump and other developers, seeking to engage them and encourage them to come into Dominica to see what kind of investments they can make in the country,” he said.

Skerrit said as times goes by there is a greater interest by international investors “and that is only because people are satisfied with what’s going on in the country”.

Donald  Trump is an American business magnate, socialite, author, and television personality. He is the Chairman and CEO of the Trump Organization, a US-based real-estate developer. Trump is also the founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts, which operates numerous casinos and hotels across the world.

According to Forbes Trump is worth US$3 billion.

This was in April 2011; from the comments i’ve read, most seem to have believed their rogue prime mistake as their love for him make them blind to the reality! :?: We are in 2019, 8 years later after the lying mouth of the son of lies made those promise, where’s the Trump investment :?: Do you people think that someone like Mr.Trump will blindly invest in such an environment that’s not ready for his private jet to land :? For those of you who blindly follow and believe your beloved prime mistake, you should be disappointed with all those failed promises?

Readers, just the name trump associated or in the same line with Dominica will already bring benefits to our island. Success is all over Mr.Trump in everything he does and everything he associates himself with. The reason why he is well respected in the US and all the world including China and Europe is because of his power, ingenius and respect.
Not too long he opened a golf course in scotland – high end, St.Lucia,Barbados and other islands are craving that he comes to their island. He is a 3 billion dollar man.
All we need is a billboard, or picture in a magazine of mr turmp name and face talking about Dominica and we will start pulling the benifits. So i say go for it Mr. PM, i dont agree to a some things which he may support or do, but i say yes to this investment or recognition for Dominica.

Dominican’s lets please see the good that can come from this. does everything have to be so political and negative??. For once lets put ourselves aside and think of the good for this land, for the young people who so desperately seek a way out. We all cry and talk about how the young people are living the island going to find work elsewhere and about the difficulty in finding jobs right now. Apart from what has befallen Adam Stanford right now, Antiguans cannot say that they didn’t enjoy the investments that he made in their country: improving the economy which provided so many of them with jobs. Its about time we embrace the good that this Government is trying to do and stop talking ill about the Government and the Country.. Because,in the end its the ones who talk so negatively are the ones reaping the benefits from things like this. So I more than welcome Mr. Trump if he takes on the invitation by the Prime Minister. The assurance of not thinking twice about living my beloved country will be so good because we all know that when Mr. Trump invests he invests well!!! And make no mistake, we wont have to worry about him ending up like Mr. Standford (I hope justice prevails in his case). After all this might just be the boost that the country so desperately needs!

I love DNO news bec it keeps me abreast of what’s happening in Dominica and the region but after reading this article and all the comments i really wish that DNO would allow some articles to be closed for comments. I cannot believe the stuff i saw people wrote. The bashful comments, the judegemental comments etc. Like seriously is it really dominicans making such comments or are people just hacking into the Database and doing nonsense. Whyyy is DNO admin allowing those hateful comments? i don’t get it.. I mean i’m seating there with my eyes watered bec i feel bad and hurt that we stoop so low. All the article was saying is the PM met with Donald Trump to discuss investing and these folks are saying alllll kind of negative things. If someone who wants to invest in dominica were to read this article and comments they would never invest a dime into this economy, and we wonder why everyone is fleeing from dominica. One minute we want investment next minute we are saying we don’t, might i say we are confused?? People on here spew hatred and ignorance to the next level. I thought we were educated dominicans? what happened?

  11. OPEN YOUR MINDS & INHALE POSITIVITY
    April 6, 2011

Well done and it is about that (Dominica) is able to take advantage of the marketing/investors opportunities towards our development like so many of the other sensible islands.

Unfortunately, Dominica historically has been exceedingly very negative when it comes to investors or potential investors conducting business on the island, and that hasn’t helped us one bit as in comparison to some of the other islands we missed so many progressive and beneficial opportunities along the way and that done us any favours at all.

It about time that we step to the front of the queue, recognised all the bountiful of natural resources and fantastic landscape that we have to offer the world and in so doing entice LEGITIMATE potential investors to do business on our island, and stop the nonsense about being against an idea just because of who said it.

The person who suggested that one should look at “google” needs to grow the hell up, realise that anyone can place anything on “google” to support their own agenda or indeed spread negativity, especially if they do not like an individual for whatever reason.

As an island, we need to not be so quick to judge or entertain rumours or innuendos, adopt the ability to separate ‘fact from fiction’, mature with our mindset as an island that claims to be progressive and support the Prime Minister’s venture to bring investors like Donald Trump to Dominica, as god knows we could do with some much needed serious hotels, employment creation and economical boost for the island.

As a Dominican who resides over in Scotland, I am happy to say that Donald Trump has recently started a huge development over hear as well to include state of the art golf courses, villa, hotels, boutiques and developments and the majority of people welcome this into the economy.

If a country like Scotland can seek and welcome such endeavours, why should we in DA who are in much need of such investment, ignore the opportunities that our island stands to gain. With development there are always risks that go with it and Dominicans need to realise that nothing is going to fall into our lamps in perfection without any hitches, as that is delusions of grander which has held us back for centuries. TIME TO GROW UP AS AN ISLAND AND MAKE INFORMED BENEFICIAL DECISIONS FOR OURSELVES.

Someone mentioned about prostitution, break up of families and adverse effects on our economy, I have news for you TAINTED, as to we need to remove our blinkers and wise up, as there has always been ‘break up of families’ in our society and there will always be such just like in every other society around the globe, prostitution is and has been rife on our island for ages, even when people try to sweep it under the carpet, both with adults and parents prostituting their children, need I say more…………………. so let’s not get this twisted here as those ills already exist in our communities and will always be there.

Yes we need to examine such ventures thoroughly before, but I wouldn’t have thought that the PM would just dive into such a venture without first carefully doing his home work with the rest of the cabinet and weighing out all the options. We need to give the guy some credit and at least keep an open mind and be supportive of new development in the island.

Yet wonder why we as an island with so much to offer, keeps lagging behind other islands with less resources than we have?! Why because, they are less critical, look at the long term benefits and welcome new development/innovation and LEGITIMATE investment opportunities.

LOVE YA DA, al the best with this venture PM & Dominicans, we could do with good cheer, so don’t be so quick to speak the negative and see what the research and findings are first in order to make informed choices/opinions.

Any legitimate investments that can be brought into the country is good. Too many of our skilled/trained workforce leaves the country to find work elsewhere because there just isn’t enough work opportunities for all of us. If Donald Trump is interested in investing in Dominica let me be counted in the many who will hopefully welcome and embrace this opportunity.

Let me also take this opportunity to advocate for the opening up of the GAMING INDUSTRY (CASINO GAMBLING) in Dominica. If we let this opportunity pass us, well…………

    • Conscious
      April 6, 2011

casino gambling-that’s exactly the kind of business Donald Trump is interested in. Dominicans are not supportive of this. Of course, they are being hypocritical and do participate in it when they leave the shores of Dominica. Anyway, I don’t think Dominica has the economic conditions (such as international air access, population size, per capita income, relevant legislative framework, etc) that will make the Don set up shore here.

Is it a case of name dropping on the part of little village boy Roosevelt Skeritt?

    • Truth B Told
      April 6, 2011

Numerous state and local governments in the USA are looking to the Casino industry and legalized gambling to increase revenue.

Perhaps we in Dominica should consider it as well, if we express our interest in developing the casino business in Dominica and get some big players in before other island we could establish Dominica as the gaming capital of the Caribbean. This would encourage substantial investment and provide tremendous employment opportunities for Dominicans.

Just another example of our PM thinking outside the box and working to bring Dominica to the next level!

  19. Conscious
    April 5, 2011

I do not buy the story that Donald Trump is intrested in investing in DA. Mr. Trump is involved in real estate and entertainment and targets high income earners. Dominica doesn’t have the high per capita income, the air access, the population, the name recognition (most people still do not know about Dominica), etc that the Donald requires as minimum.

Mr. Trump, giving his contact and status, may simply have been among a group of businessmen meeting foreign dignitaries. A photo-op for both egoists.

    • Truth B Told
      April 6, 2011

We don’t necessarily want Trump… we want him to invest and help us develop Dominica.

He may have a lot of “baggage” but he is first and foremost an astute businessman and real estate developer. We can use his expertise and promotional flair to our advantage. Plus he will likely make a run for the Presidency in the USA in 2012 (and lose of course) but that will just increase his visibility and by extension and of his investments should benefit.

  21. TAINTED
    April 5, 2011

I for one live abroad but I do keep abreast with what’s going on in DA as often as I can. We as a people must not be too quick to judge nor be too gulible to what other people say. We must read, investigate and find out about things before we make our absurd comments. Not Jonh Doe told me , Susan said he father’s brother told her …….enough of that. I for one support development in Dominica as long as it is going to be benificial to our island, by that I mean create opportunities, develop our island, boost the economy, create jobs etc. I just want to make mention of this not every investment can be considered a healthy investment in the case of casinos this could have an adverse effect on the already bad economy of this island and increase prostitution, break up families etc but it is our leaders who have to investigate and create the best opportunities for us.
I do have family living in DA and most times I get calls from them, hey it’s month-end went for my salary and I was told to come back next week, next week brings next month. What I’m saying is that what is the sense of creating all of these infrastucture, investment if we cannot pay or feed our own people. Charity begins at home. Let’s try to create investments that can generate income toward the economy herby allowing us to get money to pay our civil servants. Don’t just accept an offer because we want to prove somebody wrong, or beacause we feel it’s going to benefit a few pockets. Do it for us Dominicans. To the opposition your job is to oppose but like many Domincans I get fed up of you blowing smoke and not having any recommendations as to how, why ….do you have better ideas? Write a proposal, send your investors but please you are not dragons stop blowing smoke. We need help and we need it fast. Unless the power of love overcomes the love of power then we shall know peace.

  24. reverse psychology?
    April 5, 2011

In the absence of a realistic NATIONAL INTEGRATED PLAN for the SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT of the country, Skerritt spontaneously comes up with all kinds of far-fetched things. Skerrit told a radio programme the keen interest expressed by foreign investors comes as a result of government’s management of the country. A GOVT. THAT HEAVILY DEPENDS ON FOREIGN COUNTRIES FOR ITS DEVELOPMENT, going about with outstretched hands BEGGING? That is Management? IMPORTS are so many times greater than EXPORTS and increasing by leaps and bounds, Management? Unemployment increasing, productive sectors declining rapidly, Management? So many revelations, allegations, factual disclosures of corrupt practices, that is Management?

Local investors are being tsunamied out of business by the rapid influx and establishment of Chinese business men and women. Roseau is swamped. While local entrepreneurs are put out of business and closing down, the Chinese are gradually replacing them. Local Construction firms have invested heavily in the construction business, but now are cast aside hearing, watching Chinese Construction Co. do work that our locals should be employed to do. Some have showed capacity and ability to produce quality work in the construction of major National Projects.

Skerritt has yet to disclose any specifics regarding the nature of the discussion he had with Trump. Dominicans have been accustomed by now of those pronouncements by Skerritt as regards relationships with foreign countries and individuals, but the people remain in the dark, uninformed of and not allowed to read or see the contents of those AGREEMENTS entered into.

What kind of environment has been set for doing business in Dominica? Better AIR ACCESS? NIGHT LANDING? REDUCED TAXATION or VAT? LOWER ELECTRICITY/ ENERGY BILLS? The one where Local businesses are closing down and foreign ones taking over? What environment? Selling a prime piece of REAL STATE, PUBLIC WORKS, again to the CHINESE? Giving over our country’s Geothermal exploration and development to the foreign Co. West Indies Power Co. instead of Govt. going into some kind of JOINT VENTURE with Dominicans both here and abroad?

  27. Grand Bayrian
    April 5, 2011

“Seeking to engage them and encourage them to come into Dominica to see what kind of investments they can make in the country,” -Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.
The Prime Minister missed out on a good opportunity to make a case for Dominica. Rather than patting himself on the back for talking with Donald Trump, he should have presented him with a formal business plan for a particular project., and it should have been outline as follows:.
It must be suitable for presentation to outside lenders or investors. Must cover these points: Summary, mission and objectives. Give full background information on the origins and structure of your venture.
Summarize the background and qualifications of key management personnel. You needed a target market, that’s where data comes in; strength and weaknesses of your competitors, then you decide the market strategy, explain how you can profitably meet the needs of your target market.
You needed designs and development plans; describe the nature and extent of what needed to be done. You should have produced an operations plan provided information on the facilities, equipment and labor needed. What is the start-up schedule, forecast development of the project, in terms of completion dates for major aspects of the business plan.
Describe the major risk factors, identify all potentially negative factors and discuss them honestly. Then you deal with the financial projections and requirements, including a detailed budget of start-up and operating cost, as well as projections for income, expenses and cash flow for the first three years of the business.
Identify the financial needs and potential sources. And lastly the exit strategy, explain how investors will be able to cash out or sell their investment, such as sale of the company or buyback of the investor’s interest.
Now, if you had done that, Donald Trump might have given the idea a thought or two, but again, I know I will be taken to task, I am very well aware when we give suggestion on how to do things in Dominica, we are told “we in the Diaspora don’t know a thing about Dominica, we have been away too long”. We live in a connected world. And it is time we adapt to it. Dominica’s governments, past and present have been always given lips service as how they have created the environment that is conducive to investing in Dominica; I must say that is far from the truth.

Politicians are expected to generate interest, not present the nitty gritty of a project especially not on a first visit. Technicians present the nitty gritty on later encounters. Nobody goes through preparing documents designed for one project whereas the investor might be interested in something else. What the PM had was an exploratory visit, which is how it should be. .

I remember one blogger posted an analogy that represents us quite rightly…. we are like spectators at a football game – expert coaches, players and referees while sitting in the bleachers; put ’em in the game and wouldn’t know the first thing to do! ( or something to that effect)

Calm down, calm down, skeptics and cynics!!! Have a little respect for yourself, at least, if not for the PM. Check this:

China is governed by the Communist Party of China. Yet Wal-Mart, Cocoa Cola, Burger King, Mc Donalds, GE, Chrysler, General Motors, Ford, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc., etc, are all investing in China. Many of them also invest in Venezuela and pre civil war Libya. Donald Trump leased lhis land to Gadhaffi last year when the Libyan leader visited the UN headquaters in New York.

The almighty dollar is all they are concerned about. All they require is political stability and tax breaks. So let’sgive the PM credit for trying even if nothing comes out of it. Don’i you yhink yhat Vince did the groundwork to arrange the meeting? Come on man, stop the hate. It will kill you.

Hear, hear and I pity my people who are so ‘negative’ and it is almost as if it is acceptable for this type of primitive behaviour on our island and I really don’t remember such venom/negativity when I was growing up.

You would think that in a so-called enlightened world that citizens would be more progressive with their thoughts but sadly it seems the answer is ‘NO’ which is disheartening for Dominicans.

Do we really want to remain at the bottom of the pile and not make use of the good things we as an island have to offer the world? If we will only set our political/religious agendas aside, which has separated the island for so long and held us back from achieving our full potential, we’ll be able to see past our noses and not think year after year, so bloody simplistic!

What legacies are we leaving for our offspring and the next generations to come? WAKE THE HELL UP DOMINIANS and stop pre-empting failures, as that sort of mentality will certainly breed a failing society.

Mind you I don’t know whether you knew and you decided to say this on purpose or whether it is just plain ignorance.

By all means if you don’t like the guy for whatever reason that he has done to you personally, then go ahead and allow HATE to consume you. Dislike is one thing but spreading venom is a totally sad trait to possess. Try to keep an objective/open mind and don’t be so judgmental, as those are the signs of a well rounded, progressive and evolving individual.

one deal for dominica, two in my pocket. one piece of land sold, 4 pieces for myself. Politicians, however Dominica AND countries like it are sparking interest not for their Government, INFACT investors like myself are EXTREMELY weary of Governments and politicians. Dominica’s taxes, import duties and lack of sound policies make doing business in Dominica very risky. Those who succeed do so by either making huge contributions (bribes) or spend outrageous sums of money while barely breaking even.

My last visit to Dominica, in March I met a few people who are doing business in Dominica and all have the same issues. So to say the Government is encouraging business in Dominica is so far from the truth. Miles from it.

Dominica needs an airport that can allow 737 air craft landing at minimum. you’re going to need a bigger airport terminal and suitable ground capabilitlies with personel with technical expertise to deal with these aircraft. The ROADS omg, that isn’t a road thats a track I had to deflate my rental car tires to make driving around the island bareable. The hotel, restaurant industries need to equip themselves and their staff in hospitality, I was unable to get a single bar tender to mix my wife and I common cocktails..even at the more popular hotels won’t name the two in particular.

There is alot that need changed and alot alot of work to be done, so as a leader of the country patting yourself on the back for nothing is simply arrogant. I’m still very weary about doing business down there and i’m not alone.

    • Aaaaa
      April 5, 2011

So true!!!!!!!!! But I’ll have you know there is an aircraft that size landing in Dominica already. Its not passenger but the runway isn’t the problem. Before we go bringing a bunch of people in Dominica we have to ensure that the lives of Dominicans are at a level where everyone lives in proper homes with sanitation, electricity and they can feed their kids.

I believe the roads need to be addressed as you stated but in someway I kinda like it. You didn’t ie about the hotels. Even as a Dominican I find the hospitality deplorable and fortunately for me I have family here so I never need to go out and eat. :)

But the biggest problem in Dominica is that its like a little African country when it comes to governing. I hate to describe it as such because I don’t want to offend Africans but its the truth. The government is corrupt, if you have good coming in on the harbour you not only overcharge but you’re harassed by custom officers and people in the ministry looking for their share of your property.

The PM is inexperienced, way over his head and uneducated when it comes to buisness. Unfortunately the people here won’t vote on experience or education. It who they like. So if you’re like me and find opportunities elsewhere you get on the first plane out of there. I love the island but the people attitude stink

      • Truth, Justice, Love, Peace and Unity
        April 5, 2011

What are you stating? Do you know how some people live in the U.S.? There are poor people all over the US. Some of them do not have proper housing; some reside in rundown buildings; some sleep on the streets. Some of them depend on government food stamps. U.S. does not have an overall health care system and the list goes on…
If Donald Trump is a realistic and sensible person he will realize that Dominica is a small country and not to be compared with the US and vice versa.
Pertaining to governing, have you not listened to the US politicians who act more like children than children and uneducated ones even though they are educated?
Listen to US news and keep informed. You will learn much if you are so inclined. If you are residing in Dominica you will be happy that you do.

      • Houston
        April 5, 2011

We had experienced and educated leaders in business (Miss Charles and Eddo) Do you think it made a big difference? With our meagre resources you think big businesses will come to us? I wonder who is uneducated/stupid?

        • Truth, Justice, Love, Peace and Unity
          April 6, 2011

          @ Houston

If you call me or others uneducated and stupid, you are no exception for it takes one to know one. You do not know it all.
Be positive. Yes! Big businesses can come to us in Dominica. Do not doubt that. It is only a matter of time. They may also come when Dominica is better built-up with the Chinese government’s funds. :-D Then, how much building-up will Dominica need from those investors who have not yet come to Dominica but who also received invitations to do so?
This is why Dominica needs help from outside investors because it has meager resources to build up “its meager resources.” Put on your thinking cap! You are not so intelligent that you cannot think beyond.
I have stated, do not compare the US to Dominica and vice versa. There is no comparison.
Miss Charles of all went to the big countries as Canada and Europe. How much did they help Dominica? How much money did they give to Dominica?
I have noted that the Chinese government has done much more for Dominica in a few years than those democratic governments. I hope, one day, they will eat their hearts out. I am only concerned that one day the Chinese government will take over Dominica and all other countries of the Region it is assisting.
Negativity will get you no where just as those who are constantly negative. I expect that you still love Dominica. When last you prayed for your country and its general politicians? Many people talk and write. It appears that this is all they are capable of doing. They do not give suggestions, invitations and opportunity a chance and sensibly adopt a wait and see attitude.
Furthermore the PM either made a request or invited Donald Trump to visit and/or to invest in Dominica. Donald is the one to conduct an investigation in order to decide whether investing in Dominica is feasible. It is his prerogative to do so.
Donald has money and Dominica could do very well with some of that money as investments. Only that Donald does not build casinos in Dominica. Other investments as hotels, etc. will surely be welcomed. It will also provide employment.
This is the intention of the Prime Minister to encourage investment so as to provide employment for Dominicans. God knows that too.
Donald Trump is having a huge building constructed in downtown Toronto. It may be completed or nearing completion. Why not invest elsewhere in the world as the small islands to also provide employment for the less unfortunate who are seeking employment?
Donald will do well to spread his resources worldwide specifically to the smaller countries to assist them. God will bless him for that.
It is fair to respond to those who cry Dominica down and state that a person as Donald Trump will not come to Dominica and will not or should not invest in Dominica. It is scoffing at the PM and his intelligence for inviting him and downgrading Dominica. Shame on all of you!
As far as I am concerned, Donald Trump is only a human being. Even though he is a billionaire and enjoys all the amenities of life, he is no better a person than you and I and others. I do not worship and exult such people who may have more than I do.
Consider this, what Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?”
In James: “Tell the rich in this present age to do good so as to amass spiritual wealth.”
If Donald Trump does not want to invest in Dominica, then think about that: Dominica does not need Donald Trump. Period. As the saying: “You can’t take it with you.”

    • Sout Man

So it’s all about putting us down? Why didn’t you ask for our best cocktail instead of showing off by demanding “familiar cocktails”. What’s familiar to you and foreigners may be foreign to us. We do not have 18-wheeler big rigs so we do not need 6 and 8 lane highways. But our roads are certainly not tracks, as winding as they may be.

Although I am in favour of an international airport, our virginity is an asset in the eco-tourism industry. We need to advertise more on the international market. For instance many islands in the Bahamas and the US state of Hawai are accessed by ferry. Many eco-tourists like adventure and seclusion. Our runway at Melville Hall can accomodate the Trump “jet”. It is not a 747.

Finally, to put it bluntly, I doubt your sincerity as an investor. Oh, oh!! Anti-hate will not accept that as being blunt. I could have said that you are lying instead, but my granny taught me otherwise. So I will show a little respect. But your assault on the character of my countrymen makes you vulnerable to personal attacks. If you insert yourself in gutter politics, then suffer the consequences. I suspect that you are another disgruntled Dominican in the diaspora showing off on your fellowmen when you visit. I may be wrong. It’s all speculation; and for that I apologize. But you surely pissed me off !!!

I’m sorry to say this but its now official… Dominicans are the worst thing ever to happen to Dominica … The investors may or may not have been spoken to. They may or may not be as keenly interested as skerrit says (but its positive marketing – something we seem to lackunderstanding of)

But you people seem to pre-emptively be scaring any or every possible investors away with the basic claim that there’s nothing to do. No way they can make money. Government is Anti-US (although firmly part of the OAS) and still close and budding relationship with the US)… All sorts of negativity surely other potential investors not even targeted yet would have made up their minds before the gov’t gets a chance to pitch on your behalf.

Then you same ingrates (for lack of a more appropriate word) would call the radio and complain how how little money the Gov’t has invested or plans to invest or capable of investing in whatever industry you are a part of.

I mean really? What does it take to satisfy you people. You purposely sabotage your own development and then cry about it. You would change a working government just so that you could give some unknown a ‘chance’.. like this business of Government is a game of Russian Roulette.

You people must decide what you really want and decide quickly because we’re all on the same boat out in the wide and unfriendly ocean… you start putting holes in it… you’ll soon find out the two options; SINK or SWIM!!

One thing you people have to know, a lot of investors look at growth potential when considering an investment. Although the idea might be far fetched it is possible and even me a Labourite doubting the PM on that one.

But when you look at when you look at the overall picture Dominica has the most potential for growth in the real estate business in the entire Caribbean. Lets face it Dominica has something unique that the other Caribbean Islands just can’t compare with. Just look at the amount of interest that is already being generated by the Waitukubuli National Trail which is still under construction, this is gonna be bigger than Banana for us. When you take just the trail into consideration Dominica is prime investment market for people like Trump.

I met this African brothers and he said the opposition forces in Dominica are like West Africans. You say one thing and they immediately take your position and once you take thier position they become confused.

So I showed him the story of the Dominican PM met with potential investors in the US and he met withTrump and that Trump was excited about the idea of doing some investment in Dominica. The moment the story broke the opppsition were inflamed and disappointed that this had actually happened.

So the African broher told me, you see I told you. I think I have met these people before. They came from the slave ships and when the white men came they were opposed to going on the ships, but when the white men said I am not taking you on the ship, they became confused….then this became very easy for the white men to take them on the ship. The opposition in Dominica are from West Africa…the same mentality. They are opposed to being themselves and they are in a state of confusion.

So my friend when the Donald does not come, the opposition is going to say ” you see we are not going on the ship no more…he doesn’t want us”

Dominicans don’t get to excited yet. All the PM said is he had a meeting with Donald Trump and a few other investors. I don’t see why he (PM) should conclude that investors have a keen interest to invest in Dominica. What makes Dominica so attractive? Our High Tax regime? Lack of access to the country? Lack of Skilled people to do work? Let us get serious Mr. Skerrit because you meet with someone in a secret room and you say they are excited about investing in Dominica that doesn’t mean they are. Check the record since you are in power how many bonafide investors have we gooten in Dominica? We heard about Hotel in Wesly, Portsmouth, Tibay and up till now zip. you your island is not producing still not independent. How can one hate a country and still
calling on that country for help. It’s better to keep your mouth shut. You might as well say the PM
said those words. America can stand on it’s own, they make their own money.

Remember right on your island you have an american school with american students. All the US

Otherwise, your input in this discussion seems to be directed at Marigot people. Marigot people have had their fair share of ridicule from the labor party and supporters…they still seem to be holding on to their political beliefs as does Ports mouth and Grand Bay. It’s just a thing that some constituencies’ day…it’s called conviction in your ideology.

most americans are afraid of. Mr. Trump is a pompus and classy man dominica has too much grass all over the place and too many ignorant people.

Mr. Trump is a Miami Beach investor, down town Hollywood,Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, thats the type of business man he is and the type of environment he looks for. Simple logic does not allow me to get excited about this foolish talk by the PM. Until we establish international access to Dominica we cannot attract viable foreign investment. I ‘have had the opportunity to discuss the very same issue with some formidable businessmen and the concern is access. A working transportation system is the number one priority. The reason Trump man is looking at places like St Vincent is only because of the new international airport. I am not denying that the PM spoke to Trump and I can assure you that trump will not just say no to the PM. To WIKILEAK

I am not a political party yenyen like WIKILEAK I only call it as I see it. I did not discourage foreign investment. All I did was to high light the constraints and hindrances to foreign investment. It is asinine to equate the offshore university with say, hotel tourism or manufacturing. Russ university students come to Dominica for an extended period so even if it takes 2 days to get to D/ca the students would be willing to tolerate the unpleasant travel.; Someone wanting a vacation would be reluctant to do so. The very same applies to manufacturing- Someone would be reluctant to set up shop when the access and egress is substandard.

To me any reasonable Dominican would agree and unless we stop this political “ Brown Nosing” our politicians will continue to act the way they do.

WIKILEAK need to get off his stupid horse and see things for what they are and not what political party is likely to be castigated.

ok, let’s say Mr Trump do invest in a hotel in Dominica, who are we going to put in the hotel? Do a survey on Anchorage Hotel, Fort Young Hotel, Garraway hotel, Evergreen Hotel to name a few, how many rooms are being occupied in these hotels?? If my knowledge serves me right, the hotel rooms are only being occupied during the World Creole Music Festival and maybe during carnival, by the artist and bands performing at those events, bet you. What happen when there is no such events in Dominica?? The rooms are empty. Do you think that we need investment in hotels? Maybe, and only maybe if they do invest in an international airport we might get people coming into the country. And how will people come into the country if they have never heard of Dominica. Have you ever been to Europe, Asia, Australia, USA and persons asked you where are you from and you told them Dominica, first thing they ask, the Dominican Republic?? and you answer no Dominica, They would ask, Where is Dominica?? Dominica is not being properly marketed people. First DDA has to ensure that Dominica is being properly marketed. then Trump can invest!

I hope this was not another case of the PM doing the work of one of his employees. I hope he went to NY to have a discussion with Vince and possibly fire him. Talking to Trump and other business men in NY should have been going on a long time ago. That could have been part of Vince’s duties while he in NY. I hope the PM didn’t have to go there to go do those things himself – that would be pure slackness.

About Trump and spending money in DA, I am sure the PM wouldn’t make that up. Trump is not stupid and neither is the PM. You never know what goes through the minds of some business men. Trump could see DA as a challenge and choose to get involved in a project that involves Dominica’s Ecotourism and Trump’s hotel development expertise. He is in the Dominican Republic, Bermuda, and other first world countries where the banking system and financial markets are more advance that what obtains in Dominica, where is the air access capability by night in Dominica, its all talk in the air, too many dark clouds in your dealings and governance of Dominica and Donald Trump investment advisers will take all these into consideration. As I’m reading, all that I hear is access to the country. You never know what idea a business man may come up with, so don’t underestimate Dominica yet, it the PM had a conversation with Donald Trump. While Dominica may not have an international airport, there are other planes that do come to the country. Donald trump will probably send his employees to do his business for him, he don’t have to be there.
