Public officers to address productivity concerns at DPSU meeting

General Secretary of the DPSU, Thomas Letang

Charges that they are not productive enough will be very  much on the minds of Dominica’s public officers when they meet on Tuesday under the banner of their union – the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU).

The DPSU says it has called the meeting to address that matter that has upset some public servants on the island.

They have expressed disappointment and outrage about pronouncements by governments’ productivity consultant Parry Bellot that most of them (a whopping 80 per cent according to Bellot) are inefficient.

According to General Secretary of the DPSU, Thomas Letang, the time has come to let individuals know that they cannot continue to attack public servants.

“We believe that the statements are an attack on the public service and we want to address the matter because public officers are very disappointed, they are very upset, they are very bitter about that statement so that is something we have to address,” he said.

Bread and butter issues are also on the agenda there however –  Letang says salary negotiations will also be addressed.

“We were negotiating for the triennium 2009-2012 and we were told that a classification exercise which was suppose to have started more than a year ago would have been ready some time last year, and following the completion we would have recommenced negotiations and look at salary increases for 2010, 2011 and 2012,” he explained.

However Letang said it is unclear whether that exercise did in fact get off the ground.

He is urging the government to complete the negotiations expeditiously.

Hmmmm (lol) I respect your opinion and do understand your logic . I still believe that at the end of it all the 9 competitors are competing for the monarch. I hope you are not thinking that I have preference for someone other than Checo. Like I said I am very impressed with the first timer. I am not sure why you are indicating that I may have paid a blind eye to Peter Propere. The truth is I don’t even know Peter prospere or Checo. I just love calypso – that’s it. Any way I would love to see an improvement in Checo’s crown song and that would definitely increase his chances as a real threat in addition to being a crown pleaser. Crowd appeal does not cut – as you know Dice has a huge ;likely the largest fan base.

I wish Checo the best nevertheless. My comment is meant to be constructive and if I knew Checo I would be telling exactly what I am sharing right now.

But we have to say that this a general problem in this country
Everybody is so lay-back, you coming into a government building and they are looking at you like what you want, why are you disturbing me for,
    Even better yet isn’t it 1 o’clock yet or 4 o’clock yet
they really have a lazy approach toward customer service
in the Portsmouth hospital they have the same laisser-faire attitude .

“we were told that a classification exercise which was suppose to have started more than a year ago would have been ready some time last year”.
So Mr. Letang, considering your words as quoted here, is Mr. Bellot accurate or not? Just asking. :-D

Mr Letang you guys should look out for the snitches and police officers who will show to snoop in on the meeting so they could report back to the chief Ton Ton Makoot and eventually to Baby Dok.

It is well known that Public Servants do not perform as those in the private sector. That means that they are letting the country down. Have you ever went to the Ministries. Have you ever wanted something done and was asked to return because the person isn’t there? haven’t you made to wait for a very long time to be told to return tomorrow? Haven’t you been spoken to with such disrespect, like you are begging? Latang must advise the Public Sector to give the Dominican people the service that they deserve.

Certain public officers leave their home at 9:30am when they should be at work for 8:00am. Many of them don’t do a fair days work but they want salary increase.

I am a Public Officer and I agree with you on that one. That is why they should not be paid their full salary when the month ends. Hit them where it hurts and their attitudes bound to change
