Motorists trying to save a little money this holiday season may find some welcome relief as the price of gas has gone down.
According to trade officer in the ministry of trade, Ronnie Guiste, the price of gasoline has dropped to 6.6 percent below the previous price of $15.34 cents.
Guiste said the new prices took effect last Friday.
“The price of gasoline has been reduced to $14.33 a gallon which is roughly $1.01 or 6.6 percent below the previous price of $15.34. The price of diesel has also gone down; it is now $14.35 a gallon, dropping $0.24 cents or 1.6 percent from the previous price of $14.59 and for Kerosene there was a decrease of $ 0.34 cents or 2.6 percent drop – the price is now $12.79,” he explained.
However, Guiste pointed out that there has been a slight increase in the price for cooking gas (LPG).
“A 20 lb cylinder is now $33.49 and the 100 lb is $162.44 and ofcourse the price would vary in the different communities,” he said.
Guiste also pointed out that gas prices on the island continue to be influenced by the price of oil on the international market.
Take gas price to $8.00 a gallon and I will have a merry xmas.
Why everything like money or priceing issue has to be compared to the US. The economie in Dominica and the US is not remotely close. Believe or not, for most citizens leaving in Dominican, you are better off leaving in DA than the US. You might be surprise as to struggles and tribulation that people are going through just to get by in the US. Please stop people. it is embarasing to read. Frankly, am sick of it
Before you say hours exorbitant it is. Do some math. The price there is only about $1.60 us more there than here. Now when you when you factor in the cost of shipping and everything else do you think that it is still exorbitant. Prices in Dominica are always determined by external forces but our prices are pretty much comparable to the us when you do you conversions and factor in transportation costs etc. and please stop trying to compare Dominican prices with us prices. Dominica has 70000 the US has millions. the economies are different. And the Americans can afford to have a lower mark up because they sell greater volume
A sarcastic Huurah I would be shouting from the roof top had he delivered a price cut of $5. Then and only then I would be pleased at the pump. $1? cha
I always thought that you were getting cheap gas from PDVSA in Venezuela. Or are you?
One mor reason why a deal should be made directly with PDVSA/Hugo Chavez to continue running HOVENSA in St.Croix. Then we would all benefit here in the Eastern Caribbean. Put politics aside and lets do whats best for these islands.
HOVENSA was closed earlier this year.
Wow! Dollar for Dollar that’s rough! Gas here in my State & most other states is around $3.60 average & we’re still bawling! I can’t imagine paying $14 for gas but hey, I would still like to come back home sooner rather than later and raise my daughter in a much more peaceful place. Too much violence up here.
For some reason I see this as gimmick to show dat they their for de Dominican consumer this christmas.
we know and see how hard de economy is. Look at de city. Economic activity is at an all time low. TINGS HARD BOSSS.
I think that a lower price at de pump could have been given a hell of a long time ago. I hope dat price remains throughout carnival.
Just a gimmick to allow more money to circulate in de economy for certain people to benefit
is that something to report, when it reach 10.00 per gallon then you can report that. 14.33 is still a mountain to climb
After VAT, government makes the biggest tax ripoffs on petroleum. They raise the prices 2 times the amount the world price moves, then get away by claiming its a world crisis. Dominicans inform yourselves.
You need to stop. Haven’t you been looking at the news and the fluctuating price of fuel over the past few months? Dominica suffers just like the rest of the world. So please stop
It’s obvious….something has to go up to cover the reduction
Gas price in the US is 2.85 now…eh beh
great news for all motorist
eh beh weh! ppl will have to bake cake and ham on wood man?
nothing wrong with that
Why is cooking gas on the rise when it is at its lowest price in the U.S, and all the Latin American countries?
heavy taxation to re-circulate in the economy…that is why money in this country is running in circles for the poor, and only the rich and the cabal it multiplying for
Great news man, our price in the VI is only US$22. Tell me why our price is so low for a 20 pound bottle?
You call that low?
US$22 that works out to be EC$58.74 VS ours of $33.49. We cheaper eh
We don’t get our gas from the same places and thus the prices will never fall the same trends exactly.
Usually prices here are more heavily regulated than in the US so there is a lag from changes in worldwide prices.
For crying out loud. We are addictive to all. Does anybody want to exchange their oil for our water? that would be great.
Why would they do that when they can steal the water from under our noses? When we start being self sufficient, then and only then, can we be independent.
