SAT gears up to launch new digital services

SAT Telecommunications Ltd, Dominica’s only local cable TV provider, will launch a number of its new digital services in commemoration of its 10th anniversary.

Our digital services will be launched under the brand names SAT TV, SAT NET, SAT TEL with the theme ‘POWERUPX3’ on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, giving all Dominicans the opportunity to receive affordable and quality telecommunication services.

POWERUPX3 will provide Dominicans with an affordable package which will include SAT NET – internet, SAT TV – Cable television and SAT TEL – telephone.

With SAT Telecommunications Ltd having the largest fiber network on the island, SAT Net will offer five different packages to SAT’s customers.

Customers who sign up for SAT TEL will have the privilege of calling other SAT customers for FREE, while taking advantage of low-cost international calls using VOIP.

SAT Telecommunications Ltd is also assuring customers that while they are introducing these new services, the fee for the service that they are receiving now will remain the same, $46 including VAT.

Chief Executive Officer of SAT Telecommunications Ltd Marlon Alexander said that the launching of these new services is in keeping with the company’s mission to provide “quality and affordable telecommunication service to ALL Dominicans and not just a selected few”.

“Once these services are introduced, internet prices will drop by half and universal access and services will be affordable,” Alexander said.

The digital services (TRIPLE PLAY), which is a first for Dominica, will be available to all customers with immediate effect. SAT Telecommunications Ltd has recently upgraded their coverage and currently covers 80 percent of the island, with the remaining 20 percent to be completed by early 2011.

This giant step by SAT Telecommunications Ltd has brought technology to Dominica to another level as the venture falls in line with the government’s bid to ensure that ALL Dominicans can comfortably afford cable TV, telephone and internet Service, regardless of their location, budget or viewing preference.

The official launching ceremony of the new digital services by SAT Telecommunications Ltd will be held at 7 pm at the Marquis Lounge at Fort Young Hotel on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, under the auspices of the President of Dominica H.E Dr. Nicholas J.O Liverpool and Mrs Liverpool.

The event will be carried live by SAT Telecommunications Ltd and local radio stations.

    @ Don,
Your’re right I should use my personal example to make the case for the awareness of globalization…although thats exactly what I was trying to do. It shouldn’t if am in the red or not, its just an example. My service busniess is nothing to brag about. I should have used the banana industry as a better example. We’ve lost our main stay to other competing companies in the banana business. So when companies are competing in D/A embrace it my friend because there are other friendly communities around the globe.

okay all i want to know is what are the different packages for the internet service, what are the prices and whether it will be stable. Marpin had a good try with a service that was way faster than the packages being offered by lime when you compared them at price but the lack of reliability in the service is a big downfall

@CaribbeanMAn: I agree that ‘Qwashah’ person is quite insulting and that’s uncalled for. Qwashah seems to be too emotional about business, and should welcome foreign investment in Dominica’s economy. However, some foreign owned companies have been insensitive to their customers in Dominicans and have gone overzealous with pricing, which is the reason for so much joy from this announcement.

By the same token we should embrace competition. I wish the companies well and hope they all pass savings to local customers. Remember we were told that a big deal was coming to the caribbean in the form of fibre optic lines running under the sea down the chain of islands, thru a project by …I think…the EU? I stand corrected.

    Qwashah,

Your insults is to make you feel better or to insult another? I, for example, owns 100% of my businesses in other countries. May be u have a little understanding of “FIBER OPTIcs, and the likes but your sense of business will carry you or Dominica on the fringe of globalisation. So your misguided statement about, Dominica been the first to be 100% fiber optics “in the world” suppose to give you some value or credit on DNO? The Caribbean is one big rock with a few spots emerging in several areas, we call them “our country,” and I respect that but it should be no barrier for business and business poeple throughout the Caribbean.

Try to own your own business and extend it throughout the Caribbean like many Caribbean poeple do, may be you will understand the whole business concept in a global world.

@eagles125: I can tell u know… Since sat is digital and using voip they are running things on one line.. This is cool and all but the thing with that is if they don’t have a ups system on the land lines and let’s say “lights go” lol.. Then the phones will not work unless there have a box with batteries or sumn hooked up with the phone… Le landlines can work with n withought “lights” they got their own juice pumping in the phone wires.

This has been in the making for years!!!! Since 2004 I belive. They have done their job. It takes time to perfect this. D/a moving more n more into the technology age. Dominica was the 1st country in the world to be 100% fiber optic. We should have been leading with Internet phone n tv longtime!! It’s them other companies that wanna milk us and then trickle services to us. Thank you SAT. You changing the game as always. Keep it up.

What does foreign mean, out side of Dominica? There are a lot of Dominicans who work and own stocks, shares and bonds in other islands, but live in Dominica, they are sometimes treated the same way that Dominicans try treating regional investors and business poeple. These islands are going to have to be recognised as one home before we realise effect globalisation and how important it is for the Caribbean basin to set up an interchanagle system of commerce.

We will get there am sure.
