Secret Bay Resort has earned the distinction of being named number one among the ten best small hotels in the Caribbean for 2013.
The list was compiled by Caribbean Journal which sent out a team across the region to examine properties with 50 rooms or less employing a range of factors before making the decision for the final 10.
Each of the properties examined by the team had to stand out in at least one of these categories: ambience, quality of food, luxury, quality of service, location, romance, affordability and design, among others.
“While the Caribbean has superb luxury resorts and all-inclusives, it has an array of small, charming boutique properties that offer a laid-back yet luxurious experience,” Caribbean Journal wrote concerning the list.
With just four units Secret Bay was able to impress the Caribbean Journal team and outperform the competitors.
“Secret Bay is the smallest hotel on this list — with just four units comprised of a pair of large villas and two smaller bungalows,” Caribbean Journal wrote of the property. “All of them have one thing in common – simply extraordinary views of the coast of Dominica (and, on most days, Guadeloupe). Secret Bay is all about the escape — when you’re here, it’s just you and the beauty of the Caribbean.”
The following shows the rest of the properties from number two:
Tensing Pen – Jamaica
True Blue Bay Resort – Grenada
Pavilions and Pools – St Thomas, US Virgin Islands
Boardwalk – Aruba
Villa Saint Pierre – Martinique
Ladera – St Lucia
Casa Colonial Beach & Spa Hotel – Dominican Republic
Horned Dorset Primavera – Puerto Rico
Hope Town Harbour Lodge – Elbow Cay, Abaco, Bahamas
The compilation is part of Caribbean Journal’s ‘Best of the Caribbean’ series.
Earlier this year TripAdvisor gave Secret Bay the top spot among the “Top 25 Small Hotels in the Caribbean,” and the No.3 spot for “Top 25 Hotels for Service in the Caribbean.”
Secret Bay is located in the Picard area in the north of the island.
Congratulation to the management and staff making us proud of our Isle of beauty. Great customer service is also a key to the success of any business which i am certain in part is the key of this small but beatfiful hotel. Take hid my people we can accomplish great things if we as Dominicans take pride and effort in welcoming visitors to our beautiful Island. A smile goes a long way. (DA abroad)
Excellent indeed! My hat off for the company or companies’, what happen to Trinidad, Barbados & Saint Vincent, why they are not in this group? Of survey, congrats to the staff that make all good things possible…

Congrats G ans S,
SO proud of your achievements.AB
Nassiefians are just great. They are really business wizards Congrats………………..to proprietor and staff. Hospitality superb. Will visit one day God’s willing.
Congratulations to Secret Bay and Possie. Let’s keep making Possie the beautiful town that it is. With visitors our economy will develope. Control the crime and keep the place clean. That is the key to success. I just had a friend that visited Portsmouth by sail boat and said the people were not welcoming. That should never be. These people have money to spend. They lef and went to the Grenadines instead. We certainly don’t want that. Dominicans get your act together or you will be on the losing end.
Know exactly what you mean, unfortunately. These people make you feel on edge an you can not relax. Chill it fellers, don’t kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
Congratulations, keep up the good work
congratulations, I’m so happy to hear that.
keep doing what you doing
Good management. Congrats
Congrats to my home country. Of all the mentioned hotels, I’ve experienced Ladera, which was awesome; and it’s number 7. can’t wait for my next Dominica vacation. I know where I’ll be staying!
Great job and congrats to the management and staff of Secret Bay! Keep up the good work. Thanks for making DA proud.
i would just like to big-up the hard working management & staff for a job well done i think you guys should give yourselves a tap on the shoulder for your accomplishments and continue doing the good works nuff respect to anna, marvin, gregor, roseline, richie, wilson & the rest of the crew
Dominica take note, it had nothing to do with size it’s all about quality and efficiency. We cannot have our selves thinking small in the global village, congrats!
Where in Dominica is that. I would really like to go there. Big is not always the best. Cool and collective is the game. In this crazy life, some times we just need to relax, and enjoy NATURE.
I hope we will see another iguana in this natural place.
Congratulations to the management and staff. They are proving that with good planning, management and execution, small businesses in Dominica can be a force to reckon with.
WHERE IS SECRET BAY
Secret Bay is at Petite Baie (Ti Bay) in Portsmouth.
Congratulations to the manager and staff of secret bay. Can we see more pics of secret bay? I would gadly appreciate that because i am planning on visiting the island and would love to spend a few nights at secret bay.
Go to: secretbay.dm and for the previous blogger, it is located just before Petite Baie (better known locally as “Ti bay”, on the left hand side of the main road from Roseau to Portsmouth on a promontory overlooking the Caribbean sea, south- and directly adjacent to the Cario river.
but who is the owner nuh???/!!!! what is the big secret nuh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT NEWS INDEED,LOVELY
Wow Congrats Secret Bay! Keep doing what works, small and intimate ambience.
Congratulations to management and staff for the service that u offer which makes Dominica stand among the rest of the other islands which seem to claim they are the best. As tiny as we are we can come out at the leading position. We lead and the others just have to follow..
Congratulations to the proprietor. Continue to do what you are doing.
I will definetly make a trip there when I get to Dominica later this month. Can’t wait!!!
By all means, but I would recommend you make an appointment first: (767)445 4444 or 445-4646. Enjoy.
Congratulations to aage meant and saff. We do need that level of proficiency and efficiency throughout the public and private sector in Dominica. With that comes a much desiredchange in our attitudes and thought process. I sure hope that secrete bay will serve as that spark needed to revolutionize our service industry.
Good going guys.
so nice, on my next visit to Dominica i must go visit
Flower, it a wonderful place but not open to the general public. It has a secure/manned entrance and is tucked away from the main road without any visible signs of bling-bling. Its discretion and privacy are a major part of the attraction for their target customers, all part of a unique recipe, that obviously works.
once you can afford it
Congrats to the owner, management, and employers. I am sure that your superb customer service helped to make you stand out even more. Learn from that Dominicans!
Well said.
CONGRATULATIONS TO SECRET BAY ONCE AGAIN !!! WELL DONE. KEEP UP YOUR STANDARDS AS NUMBER ONE.
Congratulations! My absolute best regards for the Proprietor who help put Dominica on the top best list. Let us take note.
***We are NOT surprise***
This was no surprise. DA has some of the best hotels/lodges in the Caribbean.
No, no Trueman. They are talking about Secret Bay here, not the others. I admit we have some that are getting there but they have some way to catch up. They should not despair but see this as an incentive and a challenge to be enjoyed and so lift the entire local hospitality industry. Now, that would really be “next level”, instead of it being a hollow phrase.
Fantastic. Well earned congratulations! Here is a valuable lesson for all of us. Secret Bay have turned the uniqueness of Dominica into an advantage that others find hard, if not impossible to follow. They are not competing with a “me too” product. One does not have to be big or cheap to be successful in Dominica. The proof is there, right in front of our eyes and I hope that this kind of thinking will perculate through to other shareholders in our economy.
Another reason to smile.
