Beginning Friday, till Sunday, shoppers will be able to buy more for less in at least 70 confirmed business places in Roseau, as the 3rd annual Shop Dominica kicks off.

The initiative is spearheaded by Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Dominica Manufacturer’s Association (DMA) and coordinated by the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC).

Speaking to DNO, President of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) Robert Tonge said over 70 companies are on board so far and others are still signing up to be part of the event.

“Things are shaping up quite fine for Shop Dominica there are a lot of companies on board at this time,” he said, adding that up to Friday, companies were still signing up.

He said the initiative offers a great opportunity for businesses to increase sales.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity for the businesses to increase their sales and also for the patrons to get great discounts,” he stated mentioning that although some companies are not taking part, they too are providing discounts.

Tonge noted that in the past, the event has been very successful for businesses.

“In the past companies have increased their sales as high as 20 percent on those days,” Tonge noted. “It is definitely an opportunity and hopefully going forward we can do some more promotions and make it bigger and better.”

The event is also geared at increasing visitor arrival and visitor spending in Dominica.

I must agree with all the comments before mine, this year’s shop Dominica was a total flop. I though last year’s was poor but this year’s was worse.

DAIC wants to mimic Black Friday of the states as was stated last year, but they need to sensitize the general public as well as the business owners. If the public is excited about something, the business places will come aboard.

yes yes yes…it was indeed poorly done…poor taste and as usual…..unimpressive….this is the 2nd time that this shop dominica is on isnt it?….and nothing has been learnt from the last one?…no post mortem was done hence no observations or new ideas?…hmph..how mediocre can we get eh…dominican business owners have a problem with ADVERTISING…MARKETTING…they spend so much money trying to hide their money and to have their staff like slaves that they cant even sell whats on their shelves..loyalty is what have dominican businessess nowadays…In the french islands and everywhere else they do catalogues…that they send thru mail or juss pay some young kids to juss put them on the door steps…you get pics of wat you have..a description and the discounts if available and the price..you add coupons and make it fun..ppl actually go to the stores with these cataogues to shop..i am not going to greens supermarket in wallhouse not knowing wat they have onsale…a wasted trip not mentioning gas and time….

Invest bonjay in catogoues…send dem the the ITC department of the public service and they will be sent to every public servant..print..hire 365mmp and Chad Ambo of Ambo visuals to create something good…and keep ppl abreast and updated and interested…ppl like to see things…pretty colorful well done things…thats wat sells…not a set of talk on a radio …stuuups..i wont be wasting my time or gas or brakes to drive to places and i have no idea wat i going to get..i may get good..but i sure can get nothing also..Robbie Tonge…it aint bout the businessess..its about the ppl …do it genuinely to help the ppl and then the business will do well…
