Small entrepreneurs complete market readiness workshop

A two day Market Readiness Workshop organised by the Dominica Youth Environment Organisation Inc. (DYEO) and the National Export Council Secretariat (NECS) ended on Friday.

The the two-day workshop focused on informing small enterprises of specific access requirements in identified markets, increasing the marketability and export potential for enterprises which are not exporting and to improve marketability for those already exporting.

Representatives of the National Export Council Secretariat and DEXIA as well as the Dominica Bureau of Standards did presentations on Quality Assurance, Packaging and Labeling, Basic Standards, Costing and Pricing and Branding and Marketing. Participants also had to engage key resource persons to discuss and assess their enterprises’ export readiness.

This initiative is in preparation for Phase Three of the Project in Soft Core/Business Development Training by the Dominica Youth Environment Organization (DYEO).

In Phase One  DYEO partnered with the Pinelands Creative Workshop (Barbados) and the UN Women to examine how vulnerable female heads of households in Barbados and the OECS can mitigate the present economic conditions through taking advantage of emerging economic sectors. Phase Two was a pilot Project termed the ‘Think Tank Forum’ through which a workshop was held under the theme – “Building Blocks for Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Caribbean”

Under Phase Three, DYEO decided to collaborate with the National Export Council Secretariat to sensitize the targeted group in economic and marketing aspects for further capacity building and enterprise improvement

Congratulations to Dominica Youth Environment Organization (DYEO). You are making a positive contribution to the economic development of vulnerable groups particularly young women.
Small business entrepreneurship is going the TVET way,and TVET is what should be promoted vigourously within the Dominican school system. The world is fast changing and strategic planners oare realising developing and incoperating skills into the general education system is what will produce persons who are prepared for the changing global workforce.
TEchnical Vocational Education should not be treated like a passing fad, but must be given priority status in the twentyfirst century education system. Dominica, try to keep abreast with the changing times. We are way way off track for now
