Telecommunications company in hot water with DOMLEC

pay upA local telecommunications company could have its electricity plug pulled at any moment, after failure to pay what Dominica News Online understands is a whopping $1.7 million electricity bill to DOMLEC.

Sources with knowledge of the matter told DNO that the company has been struggling to keep its financial commitment to the power company.

The source said a promissory note to have the bill paid was signed earlier this year but several months later, it remains unsettled.

The company could have several of its services disconnected from the grid, the source said. This could affect its ability to provide internet services to dozens, if not hundreds, of customers.

The second phase of the disconnection would see a blackout at the company’s main offices in the city, the source said.

Don’t ask for what you cannot understand. If the company’s name is published, that would probably urge lots of customers to discontinue service with said company, thinking they are going to lose service with said company, leaving employees without jobs, inflating unemployment, leaving said company with no way of paying said bill, having the ignorant posting un-necessary comments…and the cycle starts over!

All this back and forth is just beff. This is business. How can you connect to Domlec and doh expect to pay your debt If you connect to Domlec you know the cost. If you know the cost and you do not pay your bills you owe Domlec and you have to pay up. If you make a deal to pay up and you do not then you suffer. How can you expect to use their electricity supply for free when you collect your fees from us to pay your electricity bill. Find a way to pay up It is so all over the world and it has nothing to do with the price of electricity because you knew the price, you knew, you knew, you knew.

DNO, if you are not prepared to name the company why publish the story/beff? I think it is inappropriate to bring a story to the public if you do not have the details, remember we only have two telecoms companies. Seeing how you are so eager to protect your reputation and refusing to publish comments which are in way offensive or libellous, I am surprised at you.

    Fellow Dominicans,

This is not welcoming news, but I’m sure these ‘big guns’ can handle this simple problem among their teams of legal minds.

Undoubtedly, What I think is not fair, is the endless negative comments about Dominica.

I challenge anyone of you negatively-assaulting-want-to-see-Dominica-cripple Dominicans to visit the US virgin Islands or even some states on the mainland.

Then post your honest analysis, after comparing ‘living conditions’ with Dominica.

I quote living conditions because I don’t want you guys to talk about one shirt or one can of beans by Dollar General or Kroger’s (everyday sale on specific items); I mean true cost of living and social conditions (crimes, expenses, race, security, laws, stress, friendliness, etc).

  21. November 22, 2013

If the customers/consumers are not paying their bills, then the company cannot pay its bill. It is simple. Things are hard in this country- many are unemployed and thus unable to make payments to their bills.

Yea. Let the matter stay with DOMLEC and that company and the courts. If DOMLEC had disconnected, they would have been viewed negatively, not being ‘good corporate citizens’ because that move would impact thousands of Dominicans. DOMLEC has a management/legal team that will surely handle this. We are too quick to pass judgment when we don’t know the inner workings of business transactions, contracts and the law. I can only think of one strategic move that would allow them to let the bill get so high. Not saying that is their purpose but it is a possibility and pure speculation.

*Let the bill run high in the millions
*Give them the option to pay it in a short term promissory note.
*If they pay, you get your money plus late fees
*If they don’t pay threaten disconnection; negotiate for the telecommunications company to give you shares in their business worth the money owed.

    A win/win situation.

“A local telecommunications company could have its electricity plug pulled at any moment, after failure to pay what Dominica News Online understands is a whopping “$1.7 million” electricity bill to DOMLEC.”

DOMLEC would have my services DISCONNECTED after the first or second month for NON-PAYMENT. The telecommunications company would DISCONNECT my services within two months for NON-PAYMENT.

WHY DID DOMLEC NOT TREAT THIS COMPANY IN THE SAME MANNER THAT THEY TREAT THE “LITTLE PEOPLE?” WHY DID DOMLEC ALLOW THE BILL TO BECOME THAT HIGH BEFORE MAKING THEIR MOVE? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM A LARGE COMPANY AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE? TRUST?

TAKE THAT DOMLEC. You should give the LITTLE PEOPLE the SAME TREATMENT as the LARGE COMPANY. The LITTLE PEOPLE are paying their bills, most of them on time, but EVERY WEEK there are interruptions.

To the telecommunications company, YOU MAKE SURE YOU get PAID in a TIMELY MANNER and YOU are NOT making YOUR PAYMENTS. YOU need to be DISCONNECTED to find out HOW IT FEELS to DISCONNECT people’s services because they did not meet their monthly payment in a TIMELY MANNER.

    NO EXCUSES.

When you are unable to meet your monthly bill, you pay what you can until you CATCH UP. I hope YOU do NOT INCREASE these individuals bills for SERVICES that YOU DO NOT PAY.

If that should happen, this is one company I would ENCOURAGE A BOYCOTT.

    SHAME ON YOU!

    • Toomatoe Tomato
      November 23, 2013

Could it be possible that we are not paying our Bills to the company and therefore the company cannot pay its own bills?

Another reason why we need cheaper electricity. Did some people say they oppose geothermal energy that would make everybody electricity bills less?

And what if DOMLEC were to cut off that company electricity – how would that affect the rest of us who might be depending on that company to provide a service to us on a daily basis.

A personal electrical bill and a company who provides services for hundreds of people are two different matters all together.

On the other hand if all customers pay them and on time they too in turn should try their best that their customers services are not affected.

Could be a really complicated issue. I hope DOMLEC and that company can come to some sensible agreement that will work for all concern.

Your implication is that every last person (all 70K+) has an S4. So what some people have more expensive and technological phones than others. Doesn’t mean the rest of the country on a whole isn’t doing bad. And besides do you know what sacrifices each and every person that has an S4 went through/made to own one?

Let me guess, when you was a kid (or maybe youre still one) your parents told you that you couldnt get any birthday gifts or christmas presents or new shoes because the country is doing bad…Yeah that sounds about right. lol

They know what they doing for their money, Dominicans like to live above their needs and then cry and say the country hard. They not very bright but is they that more amazed at technology.

A few Dominicans having luxury items does not compensate for the masses that are suffering. This sort of puerile grasp of reality speaks to an irrational personality.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, yet within Haiti there are many mufti millionaires splurging in luxuries.
