A local telecommunications company could have its electricity plug pulled at any moment, after failure to pay what Dominica News Online understands is a whopping $1.7 million electricity bill to DOMLEC.
Sources with knowledge of the matter told DNO that the company has been struggling to keep its financial commitment to the power company.
The source said a promissory note to have the bill paid was signed earlier this year but several months later, it remains unsettled.
The company could have several of its services disconnected from the grid, the source said. This could affect its ability to provide internet services to dozens, if not hundreds, of customers.
The second phase of the disconnection would see a blackout at the company’s main offices in the city, the source said.
Don’t ask for what you cannot understand. If the company’s name is published, that would probably urge lots of customers to discontinue service with said company, thinking they are going to lose service with said company, leaving employees without jobs, inflating unemployment, leaving said company with no way of paying said bill, having the ignorant posting un-necessary comments…and the cycle starts over!
All this back and forth is just beff. This is business. How can you connect to Domlec and doh expect to pay your debt If you connect to Domlec you know the cost. If you know the cost and you do not pay your bills you owe Domlec and you have to pay up. If you make a deal to pay up and you do not then you suffer. How can you expect to use their electricity supply for free when you collect your fees from us to pay your electricity bill. Find a way to pay up It is so all over the world and it has nothing to do with the price of electricity because you knew the price, you knew, you knew, you knew.
very intelligent comment
DNO, if you are not prepared to name the company why publish the story/beff? I think it is inappropriate to bring a story to the public if you do not have the details, remember we only have two telecoms companies. Seeing how you are so eager to protect your reputation and refusing to publish comments which are in way offensive or libellous, I am surprised at you.
give DNO a break, damn idiot. Thanks for DNO we are kept informed of activities in this country.
Sometimes I wonder when will we ever learn ,most of the ppl you hear crying down the country of their birth are the ppl that don’ look to do any thing to better their selves ,gone are the days when manna used to come down from heaven ,I’m employed but I don’t just sit and depend my salary ,i’m doing well with my part time farming some times I make more money than I do in my job I think it’s high time that ppl start to create jobs for themselves and stop waiting for manna from heaven or for so many jobs in three years as indicated by a fantasizing Pm in waiting, I don’t get it!
You are so on the money. Teach them how it’s done ’cause they want to follow Western life styles and neglect what they already have!
Domlec,.. the Fleecing & ripping of a Nation, Dominica!
Is it sat or marpin…y dont dno never give full Information. ? If was drugs names would be called…y cant a simple company name be called…?
And The Band Played On…
Just guessing it’s the awful company that provides our Internet (which works about half the time or less). That would force us to change to LIME, which charges too much (by forcing you to take a telephone), but which is at least reliable.
mr dan tanner why dont you go back to lime if you so hate sat just go back to lime and stop talking.
is this the same Dominica that is doing better than any but less the many.
your’s turly
Mr valdimure born Russain
Fellow Dominicans,
This is not welcoming news, but I’m sure these ‘big guns’ can handle this simple problem among their teams of legal minds.
Undoubtedly, What I think is not fair, is the endless negative comments about Dominica.
I challenge anyone of you negatively-assaulting-want-to-see-Dominica-cripple Dominicans to visit the US virgin Islands or even some states on the mainland.
Then post your honest analysis, after comparing ‘living conditions’ with Dominica.
I quote living conditions because I don’t want you guys to talk about one shirt or one can of beans by Dollar General or Kroger’s (everyday sale on specific items); I mean true cost of living and social conditions (crimes, expenses, race, security, laws, stress, friendliness, etc).
You should have been asking yourself those questions when you were fighting down the previous government.
wat S4 AND BB HAS TO DO WITH THAT>WAT EVER THE COMPANIES CHARGE WE THW PEOPLE PAY BECAUSE NEED THE SERVICES, IF THEY DONT PAY THEIR BILL IS THEIR FAULT THEY INVESTING ALL THE COMPANY PROFIT IN OTHER STUFF LIKE STOCK MARKET AND FORIEGN Banks
…..yet they will cut a private individual off for an bill outstanding for 2 months.
Oh oh how. Unfair is domlec when u owe them 50dollars they quick to cut u off
and the company owes 1.7million. And they still have power
When this foreign company bought over domlec a few years ago, this company bought shares in this telecommunications company, now that domlec was sold to this Barbados company, or in other words emera, they want what was owed. That was the deal. Read between the lines people.
I knew something was wrong with the Amy meter. I mean I pay about $50.00 every 3 or 4 days. I don’t own a tv or a water heater, just a laptop and desktop (90W) that are only on during working hours, a fridge, washing machine once a week, iron once a week, fan during the night, and energy saving bulbs in the house. I mean $50 bucks in 3 days come on man Domlec.
That’s a house rent right there. That’s gross.
You are not alone. In any sane democratic country this monopoly and its exhorbitant rates constitutes treason and hostage taking.
I’m sorry to say but that is how Bad the economy is currently…..cause we all know who the company is and a lot of us use their services. But Electricity is just Too expensive….but the government don’t care cause on that 1.7 million i can guarantee the 700,000.00 is theirs…….”all my sufferers try an get out as soon as you can because it ain’t getting better out here i can tell u that……
Ok i hope i can get internet service to do my work , when i come to da on vacation. First of all is this a joke… Is it cables, is it marpin? Wow this is embarassing. They collect and disconnect da people , but they allowed a tele bill to get so high. Well storm shutting down power in america and domlec shutting down power in da for non-payment. Papa bondieu! Nothing seem to be getting better. I will have to carry my own power to get internet
Is that a sign of how well the economy is doing?
“well I left school in ABC, 123 is not easy for me, and I still not sure what CAT is” but I know that this is not good news the economy is doing real bad, people are not working and can’t pay their bills and so the company can’t make revenue it is all a ripple effect.
Too late is the cry. If the company name was out, I would have willingly donate them a million dollars. The only thing they would not have to do, is to ask where I get the money from. Because the answer the answer would be: ‘Is none of your damn business.’
People come on, hit on Domlec as hard as we can for putting up with this high bill, but this cannot be a political thing. Every issue now a days is politics. Are we looking for development or are we just folish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the customers/consumers are not paying their bills, then the company cannot pay its bill. It is simple. Things are hard in this country- many are unemployed and thus unable to make payments to their bills.
Double standard again in this country. Kill us poor people and those who can afford to pay, no re precautions. If is a simple hard working Dominican longtime we in darkness. That only means we need to investigate these companys. I have a feeling they don’t pay taxes either.. I don’t even want to talk about Domlec. In the next 20 years, maybe less they won’t be here, hold tight my people hold tight God will deliver us from evil.
“The Company.” No name?
Could admin give the name of the company? If you can state a telecom co is owing Domlec 1.7 million $$$$$, what is the silence. We only have 3 to choose from, Lime, Digicel and I forgot the name of the other one…….

3 weeks ago they went into parliament to raise their pension. Notice how god is good to them only and the people suffer. They have hidden bank accounts in the Caymann islands; Villas; who have multiple houses; multiple parcels of land ; 2 million dollar mansions; land; Tell me I lie , give me a thumbs down but
When the rain fall it never fall on one man’s house top;
The lips of the righteous teach many,
But fools die for want of wisdom.
The rich man wealth is in his city;
Destruction of the poor, is poverty;
Destruction of the soul, is vanity.
The righteous’ wealth is in his Holy Place.
do you hear?
Those who have eyes, to see will see!
@ frenz, you feeling better now after all your negativeism? you give the impression that nobody , no service provider, no institution, and the list goes on don’t get paid! sad there are so many good things happening in lovely Dominica and this rubbish is the best thing you could find to post ? that’s why thih old party will continue to go like candle in the wind. RIP. UWP.
We will hv to Map the story out to pin down who that company is…
i have a feelind is lime
I doh see why the Telecom company cyan make a deal with DOMLEC to pay them with dasheen ,Lime and coconut. Eh doh blame Lang Mama this type of deal happens . If you think ah lie ask the press secretary Daryly Titre – you can call him without changing your voice no hiding , no pretending to be someone of the opposite sex. Yeh just ask him straight off whether coconut, lime and calaloo is acceptableto pay down debts.
Skerrit destroy Dominica. From the time mister come pm crime
skyrocket and record bankruptcies first Brisbane now this.
@ Iluvmypm, Bad as the economy may be Da ppl pay their bills, If a service provider doesn’t pay its bills and as a result it falls in hot water where does Skerrit, politics and crime come in that ,if you want to go and commit your crime why use Skerrit for your scapegoat? and you talking about Brisbane , since when you know ppl using their business letter head to do politics? Mr Brisbane was very smart I imagine who wrong? stupesssss.
Yea. Let the matter stay with DOMLEC and that company and the courts. If DOMLEC had disconnected, they would have been viewed negatively, not being ‘good corporate citizens’ because that move would impact thousands of Dominicans. DOMLEC has a management/legal team that will surely handle this. We are too quick to pass judgment when we don’t know the inner workings of business transactions, contracts and the law. Instead we feed into the media sensationalism. Foolishness! Ignorance is real!!
Such is life. What media on this earth is going to tell you the entire story? Medias all over the world do want ratings and therefore will tell their listeners and readers what they feel is best suited to them. Media is just another form of some part ‘tory telling’ or ‘beff’ but they do it in a professional manner.
Come on Dominicans…haha aren’t we as a island Doing Better than everyone else..haha
We have overcome the global recession..haha
Dimples and incompetence wins hearts and souls for Joy we happy as a nation..
The blind leading ahead…
Dominica…the “Fools Paradise”
It takes a fool to know another fool. So I guess your are one too.
when dominica will distroy your mouth will shout and wiil not beable to talk time will tell dominican know better than u all hatters
@ street side ,in short I think you are very stupid! period.
well i doe paying no telecoms company this month end cause i know i not going to get service!!!!!!
you are only being an a…..s
For the past three months the domlec bills have been climbing. The company should invest in Solar.
Lay off 75% of staff. Do like Chinese and employ the uneployed who will be satisfied with half and quarter of a loaf. I will take it, tired of the no vacancy.
There are only 2 tele companies on island.
which are?
Anonymous, where you get that from. It mentions that internet services will be interrupted as a result, as far as I know, Lime, Marpin and Sat provide internet services. You can take LIME out of that commess, they are responsible corporate citizens. Pluss all their sites have back up power, so… process of elimination.
you seem not to know what telecoms mean. there are several telecoms companies on this island … sort marpin, sat, lime, digi to name a few …. you foolish person
4
3
in reality, there is at least 4. They are all located within close proximity of each other in roseau.
Domlec is a huge tax on production.
Eventually, it is going to happen to every business,
except for the talking industries (politics business will be fine).
Yea Dno,why has my comment been deleted ,its only the truth. The truth will soon be known anyway.
I can only think of one strategic move that would allow them to let the bill get so high. Not saying that is their purpose but it is a possibility and pure speculation.
*Let the bill run high in the millions
*Give them the option to pay it in a short term promissory note.
*If they pay, you get your money plus late fees
*If they don’t pay threaten disconnection; negotiate for the telecommunications company to give you shares in their business worth the money owed.
A win/win situation.
BRAVO you are a true business man….kudos for that
Threaten still after owing $1.7 million? They should take them to court and take over the company
That is total crap imagin an telecommunication company cannot pay their bills? How are we suppose to pay out bills. This just show’s no one can make profit with that high electric bills. Domlec need to find a way to make cheaper electricity. At present their AMY meter is faulty (heard it from their worker). and they do not compensate people for their unites lost, all they say we cannot do anything for you..
DOMLEC needs competition . As a matter of fact, all those big companies in Dominica need some good competition. It’s just a pity I am broke
Hmmm!! So who is the local telecommunications company?
I put the name of the institution, and who told you all to take it out.., when you all have to put some one who commit a crime, you all put the name and the picture, this place is double-standard, and I really cannot stand this country…
what is the name?
LIME aka Cable and Wireless
Well, we only have Digicel and Lime and Digicel don’t have internet service. Simple dear Watson.
Why not put your real name? You cannot have it both ways that’s why we cannot take as gospel the news as reported without a confirmed source to verify its accuracy. The computer has created many bullies, and all kinds of experts. Yours, truly MR. PASCAL.
That’s why I do not believe anything that you write.
that is why domlec made me use 50 dollar light in three days??????
Any way Dominica “FINISH” we, can you imagine that, if someone owes Domlec a month, as one person say they cut you out, how could that particular institution owe all that money, and what is that institution? no wonder, we have problems with the internet at home….HA HA, look a country “wee” LOL LOL
Why do we always want to portray Dominica as the worse country? In the UNITED STATES VIRGIN ISLANDS many businesses have closed own because the electricity is too high!! Many people are without jobs because of that. The electricity bills keep on increasing, and This is the USA. Anyone who resides in the USVI can destiny to that.
So don’t come with your nonsense that Dominica “FINISH”. There are a lot ofnDominicans who are leaving the VI to return tomDominica. Virgin Islanders would tell you how much better Dominica roads are compared to theirs. After visiting Dominica those Virgin Islanders would ask why are Dominicans leaving their lovely Island to come to the VI and have to work two/three jobs to make a living. So don’t cry down Dominica like that!!
Very true. I am back home. No work, hardship in the US. leave DA alone
We are talking about $1.7million….not about country comparison. We can do that under another thread about who coming or going.People all over the world leave their country and settle elsewhere just to make a livelyhood. Right now, some fool owes DOMLEC so much money and USVI is not going to say let them give a helping hand. At the end of the day it’s Dominicans feeling the heat. Noone is crying down the country. If you don’t understand what “crying down” means…please just sit and read
wasn,t the both company owned by the same people sometime back?
“A local telecommunications company could have its electricity plug pulled at any moment, after failure to pay what Dominica News Online understands is a whopping “$1.7 million” electricity bill to DOMLEC.”
DOMLEC would have my services DISCONNECTED after the first or second month for NON-PAYMENT. The telecommunications company would DISCONNECT my services within two months for NON-PAYMENT.
WHY DID DOMLEC NOT TREAT THIS COMPANY IN THE SAME MANNER THAT THEY TREAT THE “LITTLE PEOPLE?” WHY DID DOMLEC ALLOW THE BILL TO BECOME THAT HIGH BEFORE MAKING THEIR MOVE? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM A LARGE COMPANY AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE? TRUST?
TAKE THAT DOMLEC. You should give the LITTLE PEOPLE the SAME TREATMENT as the LARGE COMPANY. The LITTLE PEOPLE are paying their bills, most of them on time, but EVERY WEEK there are interruptions.
To the telecommunications company, YOU MAKE SURE YOU get PAID in a TIMELY MANNER and YOU are NOT making YOUR PAYMENTS. YOU need to be DISCONNECTED to find out HOW IT FEELS to DISCONNECT people’s services because they did not meet their monthly payment in a TIMELY MANNER.
NO EXCUSES.
When you are unable to meet your monthly bill, you pay what you can until you CATCH UP. I hope YOU do NOT INCREASE these individuals bills for SERVICES that YOU DO NOT PAY.
If that should happen, this is one company I would ENCOURAGE A BOYCOTT.
SHAME ON YOU!
Could it be possible that we are not paying our Bills to the company and therefore the company cannot pay its own bills?
Another reason why we need cheaper electricity. Did some people say they oppose geothermal energy that would make everybody electricity bills less?
And what if DOMLEC were to cut off that company electricity – how would that affect the rest of us who might be depending on that company to provide a service to us on a daily basis.
A personal electrical bill and a company who provides services for hundreds of people are two different matters all together.
On the other hand if all customers pay them and on time they too in turn should try their best that their customers services are not affected.
Could be a really complicated issue. I hope DOMLEC and that company can come to some sensible agreement that will work for all concern.
Who tat????? why not tell us so we can know what to expect..
Well the bill get’s sooo high when dictators are involved ,, like ,, miss world event have not been paid for after a promise two months aback by our dear dictator…
Does the telecommunications company belong to the “dictator?” If yes, then the “dictator” should be liable for payment.
I do not care whether or not you have service. I do.
let them pay. they are killing we the poor people they should be paying DOMLEC.
ki sa…
Don’t blame the company, blame DOMLEC…..It’s all DOMLEC’S fault. You cannot tell me that you allow a company to use up all that electricity $1.7million and still have them running. If it were a poor woman like me , they would have cut me off for missing a month’s bill pay. Now, I bet they are going to increase the cost of electricity for the poor man just to pay off some big shot’s bill. That’s a shame
Some people give a “thumbs down” without understanding the TRUTH. I do not see the reason for this “thumbs down”. This is TRUE TALK. Who do YOU think is going to pay this $1.7 million?
Go ahead, give my response a “THUMBS DOWN”. SMH!
Thank you for agreeing with me that most of you really have NO UNDERSTANDING. Do not COMPLAIN when your service bill RISES. You will put YOUR “THUMBS UP” to COUGH UP $1.7 MILLION.
Those giving the ‘thumbs down’ either work for DOMLEC or they represent the anonymous company
Where DOMLEC was waiting for that contract renewal they were not goin to ruffle any feathers.
tru dat!
OMG why did they make it get so high; Can some negotiation take place? We need our service badly. Hmmm things really bad in our country. If we can get to that level….things are bad
So because the company owing all that money things bad in the country? Stupes give me a break. Things cannot be bad Dominicans have the latest phones. Right not bb too small for them is S4 they have. They have the latest clothes. Pfft give me a break!!
Your implication is that every last person (all 70K+) has an S4. So what some people have more expensive and technological phones than others. Doesn’t mean the rest of the country on a whole isn’t doing bad. And besides do you know what sacrifices each and every person that has an S4 went through/made to own one?
Let me guess, when you was a kid (or maybe youre still one) your parents told you that you couldnt get any birthday gifts or christmas presents or new shoes because the country is doing bad…Yeah that sounds about right. lol
They know what they doing for their money, Dominicans like to live above their needs and then cry and say the country hard. They not very bright but is they that more amazed at technology.
A few Dominicans having luxury items does not compensate for the masses that are suffering. This sort of puerile grasp of reality speaks to an irrational personality.
Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, yet within Haiti there are many mufti millionaires splurging in luxuries.
Qui sah! What! I wonder who is that!!
