Trump bans Americans from buying Venezuelan cryptocurrency

The Petro is the world’s first sovereign digital currency

President Trump further cut off Venezuela’s government from American investors on Monday.

Trump signed an executive order banning US citizens from buying Venezuela’s newly created cryptocurrency, the petro, the world’s first sovereign digital currency.

Trump considers Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro a dictator. Venezuela is in the midst of an unprecedented economic and humanitarian crisis in Latin America.

Maduro is seeking re-election in May.

The measure comes after the Trump administration banned American investors from buying newly issued Venezuelan bonds from either the government or the state-run oil company, PDVSA. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is also meeting Monday with Latin American leaders at the G20 meetings in Buenos Aires, where Venezuela will be a topic of discussion.

Hello and good morning my people. Well America always interfer in other countries internal affairs but they are complaining and investigating what Russia did during their election. Cuba and Venezuela are the only two countries in the Western hemisphere that don’t allow America to control and enslave their citizens. America is spending a lot of money with the opposition to undermine the Venezuelian government and they preventing companies from doing business with companies in Venezuela. America have a long history of arming one faction in people country to go and fight their own fellow citizens then they come in and install a puppet government so they can steal that country natural resources and their educated citizens.

Discrimination at its finest. Here you have a government that resists US control and is thus branded a dictator. Granted the country has elections in assuming in a democratic process. This is all about oil and the control of resources. Venezuela has never threatened America, why victimize it?

America, is out to destroy Venezuela by any means necessary, Demonize , sanctionize, its their international policy my entire life. Korea, Cuba, VIETNAM, Grenada, Nicaragua, the Balkans, Iraq, Lybia, Somalia, Iran, Zimbabwe, and more.. when will it end? will we ever see the end of Racist politics in our present Incarnation? yet some of us are really really proud to be called American, real sad.

Trump calls maduro a dictator. I had a chuckle at this one. Thank God the US constitution and political system was designed to prevent dictatorship and Autocracy, because the US would be in the toilets with this trump. I gave him 2.5 years before his impeachment. It is sad that we let tbe majority of the world inhabitants suffer by the actions of a few egomaniacs. I watched CBS reporter question the crown prince of Saudi on fighting proxy war in Yemen where 3000 people got killed and thought such hipocraccy. US and Russia fighting proxy war in Syria and Ukraine for years. Syria alone hundreds of thousands killed millions displaced. More suffering for the Venezuelan people while tge rich minority keep getting richer. They are the same ones who own the weapons factories. The more human advance the more we remain tbe same. Oppression, greed, hatred, power struggle. Even the church again involved like centuries gone by. Total destruction zeems to be only solution.

    Ummmn that makes no sense.
Cryto currency isn’t regulated or controlled by the US government, the government has no legal authority to restrict the purchase of a virtual currency, its not centralized nor do they control the currency… that’s an unenforceable and useless legislative act lol!

You fool, money has no intrinsic value. It is worth only what you can buy with it. This move means that the Petro is virtually worthless.

anonymous before you call people fool you must check yourself!
I invest in Crypto currency, currently there are only two that are actually backed by tangible products Venezuelan Petro by Oil (they have some fo the largest reserves in the world) and the Singapore Gold X 9backed by gold reserves) all the other are intangible.
This which Gaddafii tried to so in Africa to back the continent currency against its natural resources and get rid of the dollar, which the real reason why he was ousted.

You have absolutely no idea what you talking about do you? The can put such laws in place just like laws prohibiting its citizens from doing business with certain countries. If they want they can ban all financial transactions between US citizens and Dominica too if they had a reason to do it. And guess what, if you violate such rules then you face the consequences

Unknown is right because its funny how the people who know very little about a topic are so quick to criticize thinking other people in the know are as ignorant as they are. I trade in Crypto currency. There is no enforceable legislation in America to regulate Crypto, if there was bitcoin and etherium would be worthless at this point because they are no backed by a tangible natural resource like the Venezuelan Petro is, its an attempt for Trump to scare Americans into investing in virtual currencies that have imagined worth.

My dear you are very naive at best and very ignorant at worst! You really think the powerful countries of the world has relinquish their sovereignty to the world wide web? Just remember it is the Government military that invented the internet and then decided to make its use civilian, for reasons I cannot tell you if you do not already know! Please study world history. Every great nation had some form of currency to control and buy power and impose its authority. Crypto will only be allowed as far as the Government of the world want it to go and to serve their purpose! Keep dreaming that utopian state dream!

Truth be told… the currencies are encrypted and not controlled or regulated by government that is the whole idea of Crypto currency (secrecy). you can use the money for illegal purchases because it cannot be tracked! Your comment is indicative of Dominican mentality… you spew ignorance from a place of ignorance thinking the other person is as ignorant as you are.

When you say quote, “Every great nation had some form of currency to control and buy power and impose its authority”. it shows how little you know regarding such matter. Governments have not controlled the issue of their currency, Central Banks control the issue of currency, Central Banks are privately owned and that’s why Governments are puppets. Cryptocurrency is not issued by a Central Bank the traditional way paper currency is issued and used to manipulate
Governments and people.Cryptocurrency is not about a creating a utopian state dream. It is about freedom from the Bankers to control and manipulate currency used as a medium of exchange.

It puzzles me when Americans equate their freedoms with the freedom to buy and own guns. The fact that Trump can issue an executive order banning them from buying Venezuelan bonds and cryptocurrency seems to escape them.

They claim to be the freest people on the planet, yet their government routinely tells them where they can and cannot travel to. People in other western countries don’t normally have these freedoms curtailed.
