Waitikubuli Entrepreneurs Leve (WEL) is to the launch the 2011 Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT)/ WEL – Global Entrepreneurship week emerging entrepreneur retreat.
This event will be held on Today at 10:30am at “Pictastic Studio”, which is located at 58 independence Street, Roseau.
The launch will provide information on plans for this years emerging entrepreneurs retreat which will be held at Jungle Bay Resort from November 12 – 18. The launch will also provide an update on WEL initiatives over the past year which has resulted in several young Dominicans establishing businesses like the establishment where this year’s program launch is being held.
WEL is an NGO that was established by a group of Dominican entrepreneurs and concerned citizens to help young prospective entrepreneurs successfully establish and operate businesses. WEL and DYBT partnered with a number of other agencies, organizations and individuals last year during Global Entrepreneurship week for our first annual weeklong residential retreat for prospective entrepreneurs.
Several of last year’s retreat participants have established businesses and others are working on setting up their businesses all over the island.
Josiah St. Jean, who established “Pictastic Studio” after last year’s GEW retreat said, “WEL and DYBT gave me the courage and support to fulfil my dream of owning my own photo studio. Since opening I have had some challenges but they have always been there to help overcome my difficulties. I will always be grateful for their support and encouragement.”
This year WEL and DYBT will host a new class of between 20 and 30 young Dominicans for the second GEW retreat, which will also be held at Jungle Bay.
“The work that WEL is doing is extremely timely especially in light of global and local financial difficulties” said Sam Raphael, President of WEL.
Participants of the retreat will undergo a rigorous business development program which will include developing a viable business plan, sales & marketing techniques, customer service and financial and human resource management.
The group will hear personal accounts of overcoming challenges from a number of established Dominican entrepreneurs.
Participants will be introduced to persons from key financial institutions and will be assisted in obtaining loans to start up their businesses.
This is great and I expect great things from that. I think these are the kind of drivers we need to kick-start the small business sector.
If this was a negative story, there would be 100 comments…..how typical….excellent leadership guys keep up the good work
Great job guys. That is what we need in Dominica – more business people. If we can develop our entrepreneual class, Dominica will reap the rewards later.
