On Saturday March 29, 2014 Christopher Willis, Managing Partner of Henley & Partners Caribbean Ltd, based in St Kitts, handed over US$20,000 to Shayan Monelle, current President of Wai’tukubuli Entrepreneurs Lévé (WEL).
WEL is a non-governmental organization dedicated to support the development of young Dominicans who aspire and express substantial entrepreneurial potential.
The contribution supports the development of the next generation of Dominican entrepreneurs via WEL’s annual retreat program.
At WEL’s first Reconnect Session for 2014, Willis met with a variety of Dominican entrepreneurs both with established businesses or budding ideas.
The reconnect sessions further develop the networking, business skills and leadership development of past graduates of the program.
Various facilitators and guest speakers from Dominica and regionally share their experience and wisdom with aspiring entrepreneurs.
The facilitators include:
• Frederick Baron, MD of Nature’s Water, and WEL Treasurer, facilitated a cash management session.
• Robert Tonge, Chairman, Tonge Group of Business and President of Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) captivated the audience with his financial management presentation.
Christopher Willis of Henley Partners, shared his Top Ten Tips for entrepreneurs.
• Martha Cuffy, owner of Wellness Architects and Vice-President of WEL, facilitated the afternoon session on ”Finding Hidden Cash”.
During the vote of thanks Dafrica Thomas, WEL Board member and 2012 program graduate, presented Willis with a gift full of locally made Dominican products created by WEL graduates.
WEL’s annual retreat, which is held at Jungle Bay Resort Dominica provides emerging Dominican entrepreneurs with the opportunity to network with entrepreneurial leaders and to build skills in business development and motivational leadership.
The retreat is free because Henley and Partners has committed itself to platinum level sponsorship since 2012 and beyond.
This initiative is a collaborative effort of WEL, Jungle Bay Resort & Spa, Dominica Youth Business Trust, Invest Dominica, with support from additional individual and corporate sponsors. Over 100 graduates have been through the program to date.
Past WEL graduates maturing into successful businesses – Third Wheel Beverages, 365-MMP, Nature’s Caress, Westport Tavern and Jodie’s Sweet Art, are just a few of those emerging as young leaders who are re-shaping the Dominican business landscape.
These types of efforts should never go unnoticed. Thanks to all.
Good Stuff….This is were Dominica needs to heading by giving our entrepreneurs the sound foundation and financial support to increase business engines for economic growth.
WOW, It was hard reading what you wrote. No one writes without mistakes on here (blogs), but sometimes it is good to have a look over what you have written. However, I get the gist and I am in full agreement.
