Regional airline, LIAT, is reporting a wheel failure on one of its aircraft on Monday morning.
The airline, in a release, said flight LI 774 was traveling from Guyana to Barbados with 43 passengers on board on Monday when the main wheel failure occurred on take off.
The aircraft continued to the Grantley Adams International Airport where, as a precautionary measure, emergency services were on standby. The landing was uneventful and the passengers disembarked at the gate in Barbados.
The aircraft is being examined by the company’s maintenance department and will undergo the various checks stipulated by the manufacturer before it is returned to service, according to the LIAT.
The airline did not say when the aircraft will be returned to service.
LIAT has been under pressure lately following weeks of long and inordinate delays as well as cancellations
serve them right for making song on liat
Well at least it was a case of precaution better than cure yes. But Liat seems to be going through it this year. WOW. Not encouraging at all.
Grand ma would say to bath it in a mal current. I guess it don’t work for companies you cannot bath a company in a male current .lol!
I have criticised List endlessly as I’m a very dissatisfied customer. I do have to say, however that Liat is not the only airline that this happens to. Although they’re awfully incompetent they’re also quite a safe airline. I was a passenger on American Airlines recently when we made an emergency landing 3 minutes after take off because of engine failure. We were about to board another plane when we were told that unfortunately that plane will have to be grounded. We eventually spent the night in a hotel and travelled the next day. Can you imagine the anxiety???? Liat just need an overhaul of their management with a customer focus objective.
you know i think if skerrit had used the 8 million dollars he gave liat and buy two or more express boats it would be better cause these new planes seems to have more problem than the old ones
Say what alu want but LIAT safe camem
All the Big Wheels of LIAT have been failing for the past 50 years, now a little wheel on a plane fail is that you reporting??
The LIAT planes need to be blessed, as well as the management and staff.
Does anyone know where I can get a pwi-pwi for hire? I am coming to DA for Inependence but this LIAT ting have me scared. If Mr. Vigil was around I know I safe!
Where are you coming from?
@ Big Money I can send a SOO KOO YAN to get you.Price negotiable.
Give me your cell no! That’s how I have been doing business over the past 50 years.Presently I employ 35 SOO KOO YAN. Twenty do overseas trips, and 15,work here at home.
Take the ferry from St. Lucia.
Contatct seabourn ailine.
Never use a(bribe) prepaid or postpaid liat ticket to come and vte. You will be signing yor d.w.
And no one at liat has lost there job yet? Meaning senior management! A charity liat running nah? All these things accumulated stem from bad leadership! Simple
Apologies. Correction. “Their”
People stop crying out loud.. At least for once LIAT has done something good. Thank god that all 43 passengers were safe on ground .
if this is a good thing then u more stupid than liat cause this plane should never have left for Barbados should have landed back at the airport it took of from
I don’t understand why LIAT has to issue a press release everytime something happens to one of its aircrafts. One would think they have other aircrafts thay can press into service to cover for the affected airplane without undue stress to the travelling public.
I would not like to be one of those passengers nuh. I would be screaming. Well best I don’t know about the wheel while I’m on board because I would be a troublesome passenger. Thank God they arrived safely.
DNO at least You could let us know if it was a Dash 8 or a new ATR.You have us hanging in animated suspension!Give us the Spcifics ,Was it a Dash 8 or a ATR 600?
I just checked the FlightAware website. LIA774 is one of LIATs many Dash 8 300 aircraft that are about to be replaced by the fleet of ATRs.
Queen and all stranded airport. hope she dont miss her connecting flight…
sorry liat, the more pressure you under the more u get problems. yeah boy.
I know. I think we need to be grateful that we continue to get to our destinations safely. Leave me stranded in an airport any day than take any risky chances with me in the air.
Sometimes the inconvenience is really bad because persons are faced with different situations but i continue to say that I rather be late than dead.
Old big plane they sell for LIAT nuh? What is that nuh? Our little dash8’s were working fine.
Lord we ask for your continued guidance and protection of our people.
Check your facts. I strongly believe the plane was a dash 8.
Thanks fro traveling mercies for all on board
Am on airport in da still awaiting a 710 am flight. Shame on liat, and why is it the carnival queen have to checkin , go through security and all that none sense? She deserve more respect, what is happening the VIP section is leaking? What a shame.
It is time to close the door on LIAT.
BRING BACK CARIBBEAN STAR
Why show a picture of the new aircraft when it was a Dash-8 that had the problem DNO? A simple search of the scheduled flight would have revealed that information.
your point is? Read story, you acting like a child looking at pictures
His point is, put a picture of a dash 8, a dash 8 was in the incident not an ATR. Most people will associate the picture of the ATR with the story.
Don’t be too quick to comment .A little more attantion to detail qould reval that DNO did insert a comment with the photo ” A LIAT aircraft, not the actual one involved in the incident”.
Which Anonymous are you. There is one who writes sensible comments and the other is a total idiot. I believe you are the latter.
the poorer you are the more dogs pull you
Plis Ou Mal plis Chien Haleye!
Thank God that the passengers are all safe. But if it was observed that there was a problem with the aircraft’s wheels upon take off in Guyana then why did the pilots risk the trip all the way to Barbados?
I agree, I’m also wondering what was the extent of the gear failure. Did it fail to go up or did it ruptured on take off?
whether the pilot landed in Guyana or barbados its the same risk.
Plus engineers are on hand in Barbados
There was no greater risk going to Barbados as compared to returning to Guyana. Above all Barbados’ Airport is a more well equipped airport.
Do you all have any idea what you talking about? It all depends on the nature of the emergency. Barbados may be better equipped but a ruptured tire on take off could lead to other emergencies which are not immediately recognizable by the pilots. Such as damage to the body of the plane and hydraulic lines and flight controls. The damages could become more severe as the plane pressurize. Also retracting a damage gear could also be dangerous in several ways. Overall at the end of the day, the final decision lies in hands of the Captain of that flight. And he/she will always make the best decision in the interest of safety.
Once airborne, the wheels are useless until landing.
Flying to Barbados provided time for pertinent personnel to set the stage for an emergency landing. This flight also allowed for minimizing fuel on board during the impending emergency landing.
Getting the passengers to Barbados safely was a bonus. This time, LIAT did something right.
Because you have to land anyway, so you may as well land where the maintenance is available & not inconvenience passengers.
What does the wheels have to do with the plane flying to Barbados? Land for land, not just land in Barbados where they would have more time to prepare emergency vehicles and services? Is not like is a piece of the wings that broke off or some navigation equipment.
Aye free up Liat eh now….Better safe than sorry !
I agree, we already know that the airline is poor in customer service so its time to stop the bad mouthing and speak words of safety .
