Canefield, Dominica:

Following WINAIR’s temporary service to Canefield, Dominica with their Twin Otters WINAIR has started scheduled service to Canefield, Dominica (DCF) three times a week. The response both in St. Maarten and Dominica has been positive, since in contrast to Douglas Charles Airport (DOM), Canefield is 5 minutes away from the centre of capital Roseau. The convenience this scheduled service now offers those who are traveling to Dominica’s capital Roseau additional choices.

Combined with the scheduled ATR service to Douglas Charles airport WINAIR continues to offer daily service to the Island Dominica!

Schedule as of January 7, 2016:

Thanks much winair…. we dont even have good road far less for an international airport. the best thing from this is more alternatives to LIAT because we suffer from those criminals.

Yes, we do have international airports because all the flights coming into- & going out of Dominica are to international destinations and are subject to customs- & immigration controls.. The opposite to an international airport is a domestic airport and we do not have one of those since wed o not have domestic flights.
In fact, Seaborne air refers to “Douglas Charles” as Dominica International (DOM) and Winair still call it by its proper international name Meville Hall (DOM).

The truth is that the existing facilities are underutilized. Both Melville Hall and Canefield cost us more then they bring in. We can’t even give the airlines that do operate there enough volume of passengers to fill the available seating capacity.

Thumbs up to Winair, wishing them lots of success. However please, can you facilitate the booking of flights from St.Maarten/Dominica Canefield v.v. on line? Your official website http://www.fly-winair.sx shows that facility only availabe for flight between St.Maarten and Melville Hall (…yes Melville Hall and not Douglas Charles). I would say that you may be short changing yourself by not letting travelers make their reservations on line for all destinations.

Garbage!!! I am gravely disappointed. We are moving forward in reverse gear at the speed of light. All now I want to come Dominica and I must overnight somewhere no matter how I work out the scientific formula. That’s the result when you go chasing after these 8 sitter play pens instead of international flifgts

    • January 25, 2016

That’s surprising, I’d think that on any given day you could get from any major airport in Florida to San Juan in time to catch the Seaborne flight. Not so?

We do have a major airport here in Tampa. There are direct flights going form TPA (Tampa International Airport) to St. Martin, Virgin Islands, Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica, Cuba, St. Lucia, and even Guadeloupe and Martinique an the odd occasion. But not Dominica. We have been trained like dogs to wait in line for our turn. Instead of a direct flight, we have to take two or three to get to where we’re going. Instead of buying one ticket, we might have to buy a hotel ticket to overnight too. But then again I don’t think that international flights to Dominica will ever happen because enough people don’t travel in and out of this desolate island to fill major airlines to a reasonable capacity so it isn’t worth considering. That’s so sad when people think of getting to our island they have to think of taking 4 planes and a boat plus overnighting somewhere. I’ll be sticking with Liat instead of hopping on this tiny Winair toys. I’ve never had any issues with them.

On May 1st. I am expecting to be in P.R. after coming from a Caribbean Cruise. The ship will be in port at 7.00 AM and I will not be able to get a flight back to DA after disembarking the ship, the flight would already have left for DA, what they are telling me is that, I will have to over nite in PR. What a calamity?

That is odd. Seaborne are showing availabilty on two direct flights from Puerto Rico to Melville Hall (or Dominica International as Seaborne call it),for that date:

        – flight BB 4562 dep. 11.50 hrs. arr. 13.40
        – flight BB4556 dep. 15.40 hrs. arr. 17.30

What is staggering though is the fare they charge of U.S.$.439.10/one way in restricted economy class ( return would be U.S.$.907.39). No surprise then that for many people Dominica is an expensive destination.
