Beginning Thursday, January 7, (today) WINAIR will be having three flights per week into the Canefield Airport.
The flights begin following airline’s temporary service to Canefield, Dominica with its Twin Otters WINAIR which received a great amount of positive response from customers.
In contrast to Douglas Charles Airport (DOM), Canefield is but 5 minutes away from the centre of capital Roseau and WINAIR and its customers have recognized the convenience for those who traveling to Dominica’s capital Roseau.
“If ever we have received feedback from our customers, it is on this service. Many customers have called us to request St. Maarten – Canefield – St.
Maarten service, as well as our handlers in Dominica, Whitchurch Travel received requests to reinstate this service,” Michael Cleaver, president and CEO of WINAIR stated.
The service to Canefield is combined with the scheduled daily ATR service to Douglas Charles Airport by WINAIR.
See the schedule below:
I work in St. LUCIA and travel frequently to Dominica. I have not used Liat in about a year for several reasons including, high cost and inconvenient schedules. I get to Dominica quicker via the L’Express Des Isles ferry service when compared with most options on Liat. I get 4 return trips on the ferry for one Liat fare, excluding taxi cost from Melville Hall. I am allowed twice as much luggage, and I can change travel dates with no penalty or loss! The challenge with the ferry service is its infrequent availability (twice weekly) and the occasional rough seas.
Winair, please consider the viability of a service from George Charles into Canefield for the following reasons: several persons use the ferry service, including travelers flying into UVF, who have no choice but overnight in Castries and take the next day ferry (normally only on Thursday or Sunday); A late flight from Castries would capture that market and further expand St.Lucia UVF as an alternate route into Dominica.
I agree, not everyone wants to to make that trek into Roseau just to book a flight and today, with the internet that should not be necessary.
Dear reader I made a comment above. I wish to correct it.( am not so lucky) that comment is referring to the helicopter service AND not to the Winair service I posted on the wrong page
what most people have not realize is that this is a service for the few and the money men and wemen not for the every day people helicopter quick get away.
Dominicans said that they don’t want International airport not before 2030 and they are seeing to it that it don’t happen before that time they a satisfied to be down graded as the caca rat of the Caribbean and u may try but u wii not succeed to take them out from that live those field slave alone that’s where they belong sa caca rat la
Am not going on that. thats not progress!!! thought Blackmore said its going to be a cruise village, now helicopter and winair landing……. pure gabbage!!!! anyway st vincent have their Airport………
Some people just act like 12 year old.educated people does act like people with no brain.that is thing to put politics in it.
We are looking forward for the day that Dominica will have direct flights from major airports, like other sister islands.
Congratulations WINAIR! People let us support this service and make it possible for this carrier to expand in the Caribbean
this is very good news to me here in London, i will now be able to make it to Dominica on the same day with Air france or K L M to Princess Juliana intonational airport in Saint maarten. oh how lovely it will be to bypass antigua.
Should we de citizens see that as a milestone in our air access?
Air services are increasing at canefield airport.
This new development will certainly push back the tourist investment that was mentioned by de tourism minister.
There are more questions than answers.
Anyway i will applaud de increase in air services especially as it comes from de little canefield airport.
Patrick John was a visionary.
That’s what we call a living legacy!
Thank you PJ!!!!!!
We love you PJ!!!!
15 years as pm and your only accomplishment is helicopter landing in canefield.
Garcon, soon that helicopter business will stop. Don’t worry.
Sometime I think Dominicans has no knowledge of the term “Private Investment” Come on people Governments (PM) are here to facilitate investment.
***that’s not the PM accomplishment
Before you Labor baboons run on here and say this is major progress let me stop you in your tracks. This is called major regression. Some lousy helicopter service was recently introduce to Canefield because we were classified as “a small Caribbean island where demand is limited.” That is major disrespect by whoever said it. Now we have this. With Winair, I’m not impressed. We’re classified as small but look at the kind of flights that Antigua, Barbados, St. Martin, St. Lucia, Grenada, St. Vincent are getting so why should we settle for this? I thought Dominica were bigger than all these islands. These Winair flights does not fix the overnighting headaches we’re having when coming into Dominica from major countries. Better can be done. The Melville Hall Airport has the runway capacity to take certain jets but this the only type of service we can attract? I hope they at least have a VIP room on board for Skeritt to sip his champagne when on his way to Dubai to sell our passports
Antigua, Barbados, St. Martin, St. Lucia, Grenada, St. Vincent
If you want to make an intelligent argument, you would not be comparing the traffic these places generate with Dominica. Look up the number of passengers that pass through these islands with Dominica’s and then come back here and retract your silly statement.
Why is everything opinion-related suddenly about political affiliation? Yeesh.
This is not about political affiliation Florida Diaspora. I agree with your statement that we should do better. These little planes and helicopter don’t cut it. We could attract PAWA Dominicana which can land in Dominica.
This is a repeat of the report on DNO of 14 Dec. The first flight arrived at Canefield on schedule this morning. Good news indeed!
However, Winair are still not showing this destination on the flight reservation facility on their web site and I hope this can be rectified. In the age of internet and credit cards it is a drawback not being able to make a booking with the airline direct.
Also, the aircraft shown is a much smaller BN2B Islander, which does a disservice to Winair the Twin Otter, actually used by them on this route.
