Winter crisis possible, LIAT’s Chairman says

liatLIAT Chairman, Dr Jean Holder, has admitted that a “winter crisis” at the Antigua-based airline is possible.

“I am saying there can be a crisis if we don’t sit down together and sort it out. We have the time to do it. We need not have a crisis,” he said.

Speaking on OBSERVER Radio yesterday, Holder called for pilots and other key groups to help prevent a second dose of the extended travel chaos that gripped the Caribbean region for two months this summer.

Garçon Liat airline is a waste of time… Monkeys run that airline and have no regards to paying customers..or their own staff… It’s no surprise that the lower level staff in PR have no regards to the people who fly… I will say though, Dominica’s Liat staff are very understanding of the rubbish the customers have to deal with. This airline needs to be held accountable for making people miss their connection flights which are set more than six hours after Liat’s scheduled landing time. That is rediculus…. All pilots should walk out on these people. It’s a sad day when all you do at work is apologize for any inconvenience caused….

Pilots of LIAT! if you are unhappy, just imagine what your passengers must feel!!
Why don’t you throw the gauntlet to your management and start your own airline. All you have to do is down tools and acquire leases and ownership of aircraft out of the resulting bankruptcy on much better terms. To carry on as things are now is simply not an option.

So that’s what we are going to get for the $8 million dollars Skerrit gave them!
The guy is so not respected even after giving Liat all that money, Dominicans were stranded in St Kitts Airport for days. It’s all talk but holds no clout.

LIAT, you better step on the gas. Winter is approximately nine months. We are in November. It is already winter. There is also Christmas and New Years and then the March break when schools will be closed and parents will be taking their children to warmer climes as also West Indians visiting their countries.

I would think more people travel in winter as they get away from the cold weather.
LIAT! You better get your act together quickly.

Giving jack his jacket…..why nothing was said about the FOUR (4) tires that blowout on seaborn airways on takeoff a week ago , almost causing the airplane to run off the runway at Melville hall, because they overload the aircraft, the passengers and public said nothing about that. just inmagine that….all four rear tires burst…what if the plane had made it up ,,what would have happened upon landing ?????? luckley it happened while they were still on the ground and manage to abort takeoff …. DNO , you can easily confirm that with that with DASPA because this is not hearsay…

That’s a serious concern if it is true. While an unacceptable excuse, I think we are witnessing the results of inadequate flight service to Dominica. With so many people trying to fly out after Creole Music Festival, overloading was the end result. Sea Borne needs to add a few ATRs to their fleet.

    dear mr. Holder,

Liat has only 21 medium sized turboprop aircraft in its entire fleet (5 ATR’s and 16 Dash-8’s by my reckoning) and you can not adequately manage such a small aviation company even with the participation and support of four regional government stakeholders? Sir, that does not reflect kindly on you and without wanting to appear cynical, I would urge you to review & revise LIAT’s entire business model from top to bottom. With best wishes

Winter Crisis ha? Talk to travelers who attempt to fly into Dominica via Leave Island Any Time Airline. We face a crisis on each LIAT Flight all the time.
This is nothing new to us.
    And the foolishness continues.

  10. So not funny

At that rate I suspect broomsticks will again become the viable option for flying. What an inept group of people.

    November 11, 2013

Skerrit and that inept DLP Government handed a gift of $8m to LIAT, just like that without any conditionlities. It was just a stupid PR joke to gain popularity and compete with Gonzlaves.
What happen, do you a Prime Minister need a degree in English or psychology to know that? Dr. Aaron best answer that,, he is qualified enough.
Enough is enough Skerro and his failed government MUST GO

Well thats understandable, after such a successful summer and fall one might expect them to have a hard time keeping those sort of customer satisfaction rates so high.

Leave It At That [liat], as a leader with sense and advisors why wasn’t the $8million use to have an indegineous commuter airlie service set up in Dominica instead of burning it for one month fuel with liat or Leave It At That

there is (2)reasons why I would fly with liat.(1)I have no other choice and (2)I have to get to my sweet Dominican girlfriend that I love so much otherwise I will never use that airline and I hope the government of st.vincent & the grenadines my home will stop funding liat .we the tax payers money is going down the drain pipe with late liat..end of story.

I just had a look at this mans statement. Boy oh boy, talking about incompetence. It is absolutely frightening. How can the chairman of a business talk like that, we should, we could. What we want to hear from you is we shall, we will, we can. If you knew there was a problem brewing, tackle the problem straight away. Don’t let it happen. Be proactive and not reactive. How can people like this be at the helm of a business that is so important to the survival of some of the smaller islands? Antigua, Barbados and Grenada don’t care about LIAT. Their tourists fly in direct from the US and the UK. The islands that depend most on Liat should make sure that their interest are better served on the board of this company – not people from Barbados and Antigua.

  16. Cheap Talk
    November 11, 2013

It makes no sense to spend time talking when noone imposes any actions on said company. So they will continue to what they do best Leave Island Any Time……Joke on countries linked to them.

Once again, whether we want to admit it or not, whether you want to give me tombs or down, I will repeat, that the confused Liat SAGA reminds me of the failed policies and very poor leadership skills of Roosevelt Skerrit and his DLP is killing Dominica.
I know some of you especially those that sound and appear to be intelligent, will once again try to say that I am blaming the Liat SAGA on Skerrit. However, you guys know very well that’s not what I am saying; but because you all know his failed policies are killing Dominica just as the management of Liat is killing the company, all you want to misread my comments. But again you are right to come to that conclusion because open minded Dominicans can blame know one but Skerrit for the manner in which the Liat crisis is affecting Dominicans and tourism. In other words, Dominica is not the only Caribbean Island that Liat flies to but no other island is badly affected as Dominica is simply because other islands with vision and foresight like St Vincent had already taken steps to address their problem whereas as instead of addressing ours, Skerrit paid STV PM to come and tell us we could not afford an international airport, then the man spent $millions upon millions on Melville hall to accommodate Liat and night landing after American Eagle had already made it plain to them that they would not do night landing in Dominica. His poor vision was made clear when he invested $8 million on LIAT. So who to blame his poor policies on? You want me to blame it on Lenox Linton? Ok then I blame Lenox for not bringing a the PM of ST. Lucia to convince us that we needed an airport because we should know that is only after the opposition addresses pertinent ideas, the lazy, visionless, and rude DLP administration start to come up with cheap talks. So for their sake Lennox, I blame you.

Neither American Airlines nor British Airways fly from St. Lucia Dominica. Regardless of whether we have an international airport of not, we still need a regional airline to travel within the region.

it may not be LIAT, but some other airline would have to be created to provide the service. Which right thinking person would sink their money in an airline in the Caribbean? The only reason LIAt is still flying is because B’dos, AGA and SVG continue to support it. Otherwise LIAT would be in the history books the same as Caribbean Star, Carib Express and the others.

    November 11, 2013

This airline is an absolute joke and just needs to be done already. You can say there is going to be another crisis, but what are you as an airline actually doing about it? Absolutely nothing. It’s the same excuse time after time, flight cancellation after flight cancellation. Liat is the sole reason I will never be returning to Dominica, which is very unfortunate as I love this island and its people. However, the stress of having to use Liat is not worth it because you never know when you will actually arrive or leave. There is never any accountability within Liat; they simply blame it on the planes malfunctioning, not the incompetency that is demonstrated from the very top all the way down to the people who work at the check-in (in reference to a customer actually being hit by an employee earlier this year). It is unfathomable to me how this airline is still in existence aside from the only reality there is: it is the only option and people have no other choice. The governments that fund this airline might as well be dumping their money in the ocean because it has to be a significant drain on their funds. Just be done with it, Liat, and quit pretending to care or act like you run an honest business.
