From colorful candles to carefully stitched craftwork, home-made confectionery to hand-made jewellery, from paintings to soap, to stuffed animals and mouth-watering cupcakes, it was an impressive display of products representing the visions, talents and skills of Dominica’s young entrepreneurs.
The event was a Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) organized exposition held on Friday at Government Headquarters.
The DYBT is an initiative of the Commonwealth Youth Programme and the Government of Dominica, with support from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and provides young people with the wherewithal to establish sustainable businesses.
According to DYBT Enterprise Development Officer, Brendon Defoe, the exposition was meant to showcase young entrepreneurs in their businesses and the works of the 4H Clubs and the Junior Achievers.
“This showcase is very important to let the talent of our young people be known and also for people to get to know the health benefits and the products which are being produced right here on the island which compete with a lot of the imported items currently on the shelf,” he explained.
He pointed out that the main focus of the exposition was to allow the entrepreneurs to interact with their customers and explain the benefits of their product.
“They get a chance to explain to the customers what the benefits of purchasing the product are and what goes into the product to create it and how it can be marketed,” he said.
Defoe noted that to date, over 500 people have been trained by the Dominica Youth Business Trust and many of them have started their own business.
The DYBT on Wednesday completed the training of some young people in “Youth Entrepreneurship.”
These activities all formed part of 2013 Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Well done all. These items are beautiful and I wish I was in DA at the time so I could contribute and buy some things. I hope one day you will all go on to bigger things. God bless you all.
Secret Garden Products are ANGELLIC…
Congratulations to all, for their efforts and raw talents and creativity towards higher goals. Things are looking up please do not give up cause much is being said about our youths but in life there are persons wired to spread negativism regardless of the small steps to the contrary and the efforts placed by some to elevate our youths and country, continue the good works. The power is with us and we should let it shine.
wow i am so proud of the products

Congratulations to all the young entrepreneurs, wishing you guys all the success in your endeavors and that you will continue to produce the high quality products.I will not pick and choose but the soaps are heavenly, the confectionary to die for, paintings I adore and admire, the jewellery ,very ,very well done and they will be worn with much pride and there is much more I can say but let me finish by saying ,everyone of you were professional, explanatory, eloquent and smiling, continue doing your best and know your reward is sure. God bless Dominica and her citizens.
So beautiful. Wish I could buy most of them.
Dominica needs a mall where the people can have a variety of shops to display there products where to tourist and locals can come and shop. Those little tents does not cut it.
With all honesty the only thing I may have bought there, is those delicious looking cup cakes, maybe one cool looking pendant and that cute looking puppy over there. <3 What is with the jeans slippers though?
You said the only (THING) singular you may have bought..Encourage those who are willing….
at trolol. too bad they were not selling any brains you could used one. could`nt you just say something positive.
@Family guy If Dominicans were capable of creating brains they wouldn’t be last in everything, try and show some kindness and yall take it for granted. In reality none of these products are good, I was only trying to be nice. I even used poor grammar in my comments to make it easier so people like you can keep up.
