Church told to speak out against corruption

The church has been reminded to speak out against corruption in the country.

Minister of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce Dwight Sutherland made the call at the Central Bank Church Village for the Michael Cathedral Centre for Faith and Action Independence Entrepreneurship Expo.

While lauding the church for its contribution to the social development of the nation, Sutherland stressed that the church must not “be quiet in its call for stamping out of corruption, whether within the business arena or society at large”.

The Minister said the island’s potential should not be curtailed by those with ill intentions.

My brother, don’t you know that the clergy is part and parcel of what is happening in Dominica? How can they oppose what is going on when they are united with the Government? Don’t you know that Religion and Politics go hand in hand? As the saying goes, “six of one and half dozen of the other.” When our ancestors were shackled at the bottom of those ships, don’t you know that the enslavers were having CHURCH on deck? Doesn’t that seem like what’s going on now? The ministers have taken the places of those who enslaved our fore-parents while the ascendants of slaves are still mentally enslaved. It is so pathetic that these so-called men of god have continued to exploit those who are fearful of going to hell. They continue to give the pittance that they have to these clergy and ministers thinking they can buy their way to heaven. It is such a disgrace that these men have no mercy on those of whom they take for granted.
    WHAT A DAMN SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with your comment. The pastors and ministers are raping the congregation off their hard-earned money and are living rich while the members scarcely make it from day to day. TOO MUCH CHURCH and NOT ENOUGH RESEARCH to know where religion really existed. Religion, my people, will get you NO WHERE. It will not pay your way to heaven where you think you will walk the streets of gold. THAT, also, will NEVER happen. It is just MYTH that you continue to believe in. STOP giving your hard-earned money to men who need to work for a living.

But, it the church and those priesta and pastors that endorsing all that nonsense. Those same church people that caused Dominica embarassment and a lot of money with Tommy Lee, Same church people who supported the government to bring Sinach (Spinach) to Dominica and a false prophet of a pastor to come and sing and call Jesus name for us for how much thousands of dollars from our treasury, same church people who reap tithes every sunday but yet those same communities that they operate from are deplorable. Roseau for example, what have our churches done in Roseau to uplift our standards of living? where do our tithes go? The Catholic Church crying for years to build a roof. The cost of it alone is enough to buy a VIP pass in heaven (travel included). Same church people who will insist that the PM and his nonsense AG never change their stance on cannabis.. It is better to know than to believe. wal in blind faith still and ignore the facts. Too much church not enough action.

Karl etc, please be specific with your comments and how you judge those who are suppose to be judged. You must not be general in your comments and condemnation, but please attempt to be specific and not personal. It is not all Pastors and priests who are blind and align to inept Skerrit and his corrupt labour Government. There are many pastors and priests and clergy who do not support this nonsense and have cried foul when it is so.
There are blind pastors and blind Priests and there are decent and priests and pastors. The latter to listen to and be guided, and that helps me understand the bigger picture and not go personal on anyone, after all they are Dominicans with families too, so deserve some respects. But yes, if they blindly supporting and promoting a corrupt heinous labour government and ministers, they ought to be told off., because Skerrit must go and his government has been practising evil anti-Godly messages and things for 18 years now. The Labour Government must Go.

The churches should speak on behalf of the people… one big voice compared to whispers. The churches are also corrupt but seem to have some leverage on the political scale.

Nothing does more damage to a country’s progress that the corruption by those who hold high office, the Ministers of government and their political appointees. They enrich themselves by ill-gotten gains and deprive the rest of the citizens the basic necessities of life and a comfortable living. Look at the present crop of Ministers before they got in government and now. They cannot honestly account for their filthy accumulation of their materialistic gains and their ‘obese’ bank accounts. Look at most ordinary Dominicans, struggling mightily just to keep their heads barely above the surface of the water. They are drowning in debt and sliding into abject poverty. People of influence like the clergy and business entity have to speak out vociferously against the rising tide of corrupt practices and the dumbing down of government..
Silence, by people of influence, when they should protest in the glaring light of boldfaced corruption is a sin.

Not all, “out of south City”, not all of them. It is some of them. But the entire Labour Government are an excessive, openly corrupt Labour government and they must Go, ASAP…and take failed Skerrit with you.
