Complaint letter to LIAT goes viral

Virgin Atlantic CEO thought the LIAT complaint letter was hilarious
CEO of Virgin Airlines thought the LIAT complaint letter was hilarious

Most letters of complaint are filled with anger and vitriol and there is hardly any humor in them.

Not so with a complaint letter written to regional airline, LIAT.

The letter penned by Tennis pro Arthur Hicks was so funny that it caught the attention of CEO of Virgin Airlines Richard Branson, who had himself been the subject of a hard hitting and funny complaint letter.

Branson tweeted the letter to his more than 3 million followers on Twitter. It was picked up by numerous news organizations and as the old saying goes, the rest is history.

“How to write a complaint letter — read this hilarious note from a frustrated airline passenger,” Branson tweeted.

Below is the full letter.

Dear LIAT,

May I say how considerate it is of you to enable your passengers such an in-depth and thorough tour of the Caribbean.

Most other airlines I have travelled on would simply wish to take me from point A to B in rather a hurry. I was intrigued that we were allowed to stop at not a lowly one or two but a magnificent six airports yesterday. And who wants to fly on the same airplane the entire time? We got to change and refuel every step of the way!

I particularly enjoyed sampling the security scanners at each and every airport. I find it preposterous that people imagine them all to be the same. And as for being patted down by a variety of islanders, well, I feel as if I’ve been hugged by most of the Caribbean already. I also found it unique that this was all done on “island time,” because I do like to have time to absorb the atmosphere of the various departure lounges. As for our arrival, well, who wants to have to take a ferry at the end of all that flying anyway? I’m glad the boat was long gone by the time we arrived into Tortola last night — and that all those noisy bars and restaurants were closed.

So thank you, LIAT. I now truly understand why you are “The Caribbean Airline.”

P.S. Keep the bag. I never liked it anyway.

The LIAT letter appeared in the weekly British Virgin Islands newspaper, the BVI Beacon, earlier this year.

“It is important to take customer feedback on board in order to improve – and also to be able to laugh at yourself,” Branson tweeted.

Good critics like Mr H will make liat wake up and smell the coffee. There are people like Branson watching, i would also be happy if branson comes up to compete. We are paying our money for a service and we need good and proper service.

dominicans should be the last set of people to complain about liat being late since the contribute to liat delays when the check in late or linger on the outside with family and friends before going into departure. all u cry liat for being late but with immediate effect those of you who like to come check in late for flights with silly excuses bout flat tire will feel the squeeze. no longer will i delay any of liats flight at melvillehall to accommodate any of you ungreatfull people. all favors stop. no longer will i be assisting anyone by sending provision,or important documents to family members mainly in antigua and st maarten without a charge. we have a quick pak and cargo service.no more favours when you guys are late for flights and we just put u on a next flight free. from now its international standard. you miss your flight you pay cancellation fee and any other fees associated with rebooking on another liat service.

That’s the way it should be on larger international airlines if you show up late they leave without you I was almost left one time travelling from Germany I showed up 5 minutes before departure time they were about to close the aircraft doors when I walked on the plane they almost left without me why should any airline hold up a flight and punish the other passengers because one person has poor planning and leaves late for the airport?

stupid stupid people. I agree there are many problems with LIAT but helping foreigners to criticise your own? big mistake. This is what made the UK great. They stick together when facing the outside world; even when they are at fault. Carry on giving Branson ammunition. English people do not like you all so trust me he has an ulterior motive tweeting about this letter to LIAT. Why are we so naive and quick to forgive! smh

    • July 5, 2013

I think that LIAT should put a surcharge of 2 dollars on every ticket for a year and at the end collect reports like these and enter then into a competition and give the winner the money they collect.

The person who wrote this deserves a prize. I think LIAT should file for bankruptcy and just agree adios amigo because they are just a shit hole i wonder if the L.I.A.T still stands for Leeward Island Air Transportation…….

i find we dominicans like to single out the negative and the positives we turn a blind eye to. when it was the haiti earthquake or the floods in stlucia due to huricane thomas a few years back. liat gave an air craft and crew to fly aid into those affected area and i don’t recall dominican so eager to highlight its humanitarian efforts.i don’t recall any of the foreign airline company making their resources available. liat has it short comings but they do more than their share for caribbean tourism.is we are gonna highlight the negatives then should should be balance to highlight the good as well..

Such a damn shame that we have been dealing with this disrespectful treatment and service by LIAT for generations, and it takes a letter from a w_____ man to have us talking as if we are so mad. LIAT is right to do so….. because we accepted the treatment we deserve. We should get upset over better service and do something without the interference of an outsider… Dominican residing in Dominica always blame the diaspora for interfering and acting as if they so smart (justified o many occasions by the arrogance and stupidity some of us display when we return home) but it is funny how this one is embraced….A trait that is very common in us black people.

  14. ME
    July 3, 2013

I found it funny but a bit sad as well. Why as a people have we accepted the horrible service offered to us by not only major industries but by local businesses as well. How long have you waited for a local phone company or cable company to show up to fix a problem. How many times have you requested an item at a store to be rudely told “it finish”. People can only treat us the way we allow them to. Bad service is bad for business and tourism. Take note, make the person or company aware of your dissatisfaction and take action.

I would like to think that the top brass at LIAT might be suitably embarrassed by this letter. I would like to think that they might even re-think the way they operate their airline. However, I doubt they will. They know we have virtually no choice in choosing an alternative and that is why they treat us, their customers with contempt and disdain. If LIAT could actually run their business effectively it would be an enormous boost to the Caribbean economies. Their inefficiency and over-pricing consistently damages the region’s economy.

There are many thing which comes into play here. Antigua want everyone to pass through the country so they could make money. Dominica was about to have a functioning airport for night and day land was bought the new government did not follow through with the idea. What a mistake. People who live in NJ or NY do not have to go through Antigua to Dominica. There is an easier way but sorry airline i cannot advertise for you my bills needs paying. Another thing people buy the cheapest tickets and then complain of the route. I sacrifice and pay to get there the time i want.

People have to realise that LIAT has to operate a schedule that can complement all caribbean travellers. If i’m operating a flight to Trinidad, I will have to take into consideration the amount of fuel used, the weight of baggage can take on a straight journey.

You have to take into consideration that there are people from St Lucia, Dominica, Grenada and St Vincent who will want to travel to Trinidad as well.

LIAT needs to EDUCATE THE CARIBBEAN TRAVELLER ON HOW AN AIRLINE OPERATES ESPECIALLY IN THIS REGION. Caribbean Star and other carriers had to obey the LAWS that existed in caribbean travel especially in security checks which is not controlled by the caribbean traveller.

DOMINICANS NEED TO BE EDUCATED ABOUT AIR TRAVEL BECUASE IT SEEMS THAT WE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO TRAVEL ON BOATS.

This email is directed to how dumb black societies are soo all of us are entitled to hold and defend what is dear and precious to us while it still lasts before it is too late and we end up loosing.

I will applaud the day of an international airport for you to see that all airlines are really the same.

And if he is thinking that “they can keep the bag” in jest, then he had better know that if he gets it back, it will be cleansed of all the things that he thought he liked.
It is sad as I have experienced theft all too often with nary such an apology…I was comforted with the fact that customer service says that they have a disclaimer informing you that your valuables should be kept on you. How can you buy things in duty free-cologne/perfume/ that are more than an ounce, and must go in your luggage else be taken (international standards) and be told no one is responsible?
And who decides that the clothes I travel to buy because I like them and want to spend on them should be shared with LIAT workers? Or my top of the line sneaker? It won’t all fit in my hand luggage…I would look like Tanty Merle in the Oval…or on the runway.

It is too bad that a few rotten heads must make the whole basket pay…let’s not talk about staying over in Antigua…that is another discussion.
Wake up LIAT! We don’t have a choice in flying

Simple solution…ship you stuff ahead (Amerijet, Tropical Shipping) and travel with you Carry-on only when coming to Dca. That is what smart people do. Just be mindful that it will not work in case of emergency because some retail outlets in Antigua get their supplies from the LIAT spoils of war….YES I SAID IT!

Sarcasm in motion and in humor. That was a great way of putting it. Read between the lines of the passenger’s frustration and also anger.
These airlines could be slow. They are as slow as a snail; slow pokes to arrive; delayed and canceled flights while passengers wait for hours, also a whole day and overnight.
There are now additional regulations in Canada if flights are delayed over a few hours. They will be fined some thousands of dollars – more than $2,000. In addition, the measly $100 that Air Canada gave to passengers whose flights were canceled was being negotiated to as much as $500. I have not heard anymore about that.
LIAT and all other Caribbean airlines should also be charged. It is high time for them to clean up their act and arrive on time, unless there is a storm. Otherwise, they do not have to contend with snow storms.

With all that said Branson should maybe consider investing in a new airline to service the Caribbean. Yes LIAT is totally at fault but have we ever thought of how difficult it is to serve a chain of small islands efficiently ( island hopping). Difinately a lot of wear and tear on the aircrafts and yes the lack of good workmanship all are major contributions to LIATs troubles. So again Branson many other airlines have come and gone but good old LIAT is still here for us because we do not have much of a choice.

Yes I must admit they maybe late at times but from all my travel I have had good experiences. I know that I have travelled from the USA on my return from University on Vacation and have lost my bag with all my clothes and shoes and this was on one of the USA big Airlines. 33. July 2, 2013

I don’t find this hilarious, as JESUS asked “He who is without SIN cast the first stone”. Show me one business in the Caribbean that is efficient, any Organisation? anyone, anybody?Has anyone taken the time to spend a day at a LIAT office to know the problems staff are faced with in respect to Governmental policies, flying in a region with French laws/ U.S, British and OECS lAWS?Do you know thatLIAT keeps the region alive? Do you know that Richard Branson is grieveing because he couldn’t get to buy LIAT to take away our foreign exchange to the slave kingdom of England?

Caribbean people should be ashamed of themselves because this denotes who we are and not what LIAT is. I’m urging all Dominicans to have a brain because the battle has just begun and we are soo dumb to realise that we are indulging ourselves to be blinded by our colonial masters of this time.

Do you think that they care about BLACK PEOPLE an our region? They have noted to the world that we’re an incompetent and that our incompetency though it may be has proven that OUR AIRLINE, OUR CARIBBEAN AIRLINE HAS THE BEST SAFETY RECORD IN THE WORLD. I live this for you all to ponder on.

Its funny I went home recently for an important meeting and all what I brought in my hand luggage remained in barbados and I had to attend the meeting in jeans! WHY you may ask? Because liat decided that they are going to take care of my HAND LUGGAGE and tag it and put it on the plane. Instead I get to Dominica and the bag was left down with all my clothes, underwear, electronics and documents for my meeting which they delivered the following NIGHT… SERIOUSLY .. I COMMEND THE MAN!!! GREAT JOB! … But i hope the CEO don’t just take it as funny but A WAKE UP CALL..because like myself a lot of people will change their minds.. I’ll pay the extra money go through Guadeloupe or Martinique or even St. Lucia and take the ferry home!

Caribbean peopl work ethic? What work ethic? It may not be everybody, but the ones encountered represent the caribbean people. I am from the Caribbean and needless to say the customer service is so poor it’s almost non ecistent. There is a general attitude of “I will get to it when I get to it”. It may not be fair to the people who do put forth an effort but that’s the results when the cons out weigh the pros.

Richard Branson is an astute business man and I’m sure he knows a good venture when he sees it”

What does Richard Branson is an astute business man have to do with the building of an International Airport in Dominica?

Richard has not offered any advise as to how to resolve the problem of entering Dominica, and exiting Dominica by air. It to me he cast those remarks because he was a recipient of a similar criticisms, for your information Branson is the owner of Virgin Atlantic Airline, so your idea that he is an astute businessman, does not hold cold water.

It is not any sort of academic ability that caused him to be a multimillionaire, or caused him to be a billionaire which ever he may be; for in case you do not know he is a high school dropout!

However, what is a the destiny of someone cannot be denied!

For you to base an argument on the words of someone like Richard, tells me you do not have a clue of what you are talking about!

Such trivial comments does not help the cause, nor help find a resolve in entering and exiting Dominica by air!

If Dominica survives for another two thousand years, the only resolve, the only alternative, the only solution, to the problem of air travel into and out of Dominica is to build an International Airport to accommodate flights originating within and outside of Dominica: all of that crap about Caribbean leaders must stand up; to hogwash makes no sense, and every fool knows that.

In the 1970’s Jerry Watts of Antigua, born to a Dominica mother, while serving in the George Walters government identified our problem, in reference to LIAT, he decided to introduce a couple of 747’s into LIAT fleet of Aircrafts, and advised our Government the solution to our problem, and LIAT is to build an International Airport in Dominica, the powers that be at the time ignored him and went and build Cane Field death trap where aircrafts would take off from South to North in a cross wind (wind-share) which could have killed people on landing and take off.

What you have stated in your comments is just another way to justify Dominicans backwardness, it is good for every other place on earth, except Dominica.

That is why Gonzalez of St. Vincent advised this Labor Party government not to build an International Airport, because we do not have the need for one, refurbish Melville Hall Airport, and install Landing lights, that is what we deserve, meanwhile, he is building an International Airport in St. Vincent, hence he and his people will no longer to suffer at he hands of LIAT.

BTW there is no such thing as the Caribbean Government. Each of the island nations in the Caribbean have their OWN government. “this was all done on island time,”

I by no means find the humour in this letter, yes cleverly written but hilarious NO. He did not only sarcastically insulted LIAT but as well the Caribbean people’s work ethic. How dare he equates LIAT’s inefficiency to how we islanders (live) work/professionalism? I have travelled with LIAT many times and in pure frustration have came very close to describing the airhostess caked on makeup but I refuse to portrait the entire Caribbean (people) as inefficient and inadequate.

Wait a minute! You find this insulting? I find it hilarious and patently instructive, not unlike the messages dished out by all the metaphors and symbolism used by a well-written poem.

That’s why the Caribbean will not go far anytime soon. We’re too afraid of criticism; we too like to circle our wagons and hunker down – probably too much of having to dodge the perennial hurricanes.

Fact is LIAT sucks, service-wise. We all know that, but some of us on here pretending that we like it “Just So,” as the Mighty Chalkdust says in one of his finest calypsos.

I find this was a creative way of telling us Caribbean folks that, if we want to be taken seriously in the world of business, if we have any ambitions of bringing home the bacon, we cannot continue to present LIAT as the Caribbean’s example of a serious business model.

      @NOT FUNNY

I don’t think the author’s mention of “island time” was a negative reference to the Caribbean people’s work ethic or professionalism. The gentleman was understandably frustrated, as are tens of thousands of Caribbean citizens, by the lack of professionalism that is consistently shown by LIAT (Luggage In Any Terminal). The author used the term “island time” to describe LIAT’s attitude towards punctuality. Island time is a widely used tongue-in-cheek reference to the laid back approach to punctuality (or lack thereof) that is typical to the Caribbean islands. Even official government and business functions do not usually start on time. Many islanders, including myself sometimes, use that term as a badge of honor to differentiate our way of life from the hustle and bustle (the Rat Race) of developed countries. But while this attitude may contribute to us being one of the least stressed out people in the world, we often fail to realize that not everyone will embrace our approach to time keeping and we should respect those people’s time. Those companies, such as LIAT, that are paid by customers who expect a certain degree of punctuality and professionalism need to urgently and permanently get out the “island time” business.

Well to be honest I think these two hot debates! I agree with what they are saying but I actually do think a lot of West Indians are lazy and do work on Island time. I have traveled the islands extensively and being Caribbean see a great deal of lazy workers! To a visitor traveling on LIAT I totally see his point of view and telling LIAT to keep his bag hits home to me!! How many times has my luggage gone off to another island without me! :-D LOL It is a well written letter with a great deal of humour and sarcasm. The letter made me smile :) !!

All the Caribbean people want is professionalism from the airline and its staff. After all, we are spending out hard earned money. Do you know how hard it is in the world today? Much less the Caribbean? And furthermore dominica? And for my money I get attitude and no care from the airline. Not even when you complain will liat compensate you? Even if they are dead wrong? Humorous indeed. I reposted this on my Facebook page 2 days ago when I first came across it and it has garnered numerous laughs. BUT, say what you want, the work ethic this letter subconsciously highlights is not confined to LIAT – it is indicative of a sytemic problem we have in the Caribbean, especially in Dominica that can probably described as a “we’ll get it done in our own time, at our own pace” attitude. This underlying problem manifests itself in numerous ways and you will inevitable come into contact with it when you try to get something done ona tight schedule. Just try going to the hospital and complain that you have an issue that requires immediate attention – they will look at you, make a quick visual assessment of your condition (without checking your vitals), determine you pushy or rude, and then make you wait even longer. Or try getting some building plans filed or paperwork done at the relevant office – you might as well pitch a tent and put your feet up because you’re going to be there for a while, even though there may be very few or no one else in the office with you. Island time – that’s how it’s done.

True…Same thing with the attorneys too. After you pay your money, they taking their good old time to do the service they were paid to.
‘I will get to you, when I get to you’ attitude. And when they tell you they busy working on your case, you come to their office and find out they are on vacation!!!
That is why people sick and tired.
Let us not even discuss the poor customer service around the island.
I went to Astaphans to buy a large item. The attendants off to the side watching me up and down as if I came in as an exhibit! NO one asking whether they can be off assistance. And when finally have to ask for help,(which you saw you clearly were not going to get) they tell you that this is not their department and they have to find the right person… Hardly anyone moving to call the right person for the department and they telling you that he/she should be around here somewhere.
If you lost it and offered a few choice words, you would have been considered rude.

Absolute ballony! That is what they want people like you to believe! GET RID OF A FIRM THAT HAS WORKED FOR YEARS AND WILL NOT WORK.

Why are some Caribbean people so receptive to mediocrity and shoddy performance and inability to deliver excellent customer service?

No wonder this has become the norm and the fabric of the region’s cultural gauge, as it would seem such deplorable customer service across all sector is the one thing.

Common on my people wake up and “don’t be afraid to call a spade just that a spade,” as such issues will continue to get even worse and hurt your island and the region as a whole.

If you received service that is below par and systematically continue to do so, then they should be “named and shamed” and cease from patronizing this business. Unprofessional, incompetent and inefficient service delivery should never be applauded but instead deplored and highlighted.

      July 2, 2013

I am astounded that we should praise an airline for the most basic thing they are supposed to do: “Convey us safely to our destination for which we have contracted them with our money”. I don’t know how LIAT ranks in the global airline safety ratings but they are certainly not listed amongst the first 60 airlines on the respected Jacdec list for 2012 ( which ranks Finnair as no.1 and BA no.10 and Virgin no.15 respectively).

    • July 3, 2013

Safety has nothing to do with people trying to make a connecting flight. When you miss your connection you have to overnight and also pay extra to get on another flight. Costly. We do need safety but what LIAT is doing to its passengers has NOTHING to do with SAFETY nor COMFORT. I call that MISCHIEF. Flying from San Juan to Dominica via LIAT requires passengers to stop in Antigua, board another LIAT, too much trouble. Passengers should be flying straight to Dominica from San Juan, it is a short flight.

      Glad that LIAT has COMPETITION.

.” I now truly understand why you are “The Caribbean Airline.”
P.S. Keep the bag. I never liked it anyway.”

You see; to some people this may seems a very humorous letter, however, I see the suffering and pain that passenger has suffered while flying from South of the Caribbean to the North. What is not surprising to me is that after fifty years of this joke aline, we find people are still loosing their belongings, as confirmed in the quote above.

“P. S. keep the bag. I never liked it anyway.” This means after the the misery they put this person through, at the end of the flight, as usual his luggage disappeared, certain never to be found or seen again. The last time one of my daughters and I visited Dominica, we suffered the same faith.

Traveling from the U.S. to Dominica, we connected in Puerto Rico, on a flight which took us to St. Lucia on American Eagle only to be connected to the this LIAT, headed to Dominica, via Martinique.

We landed in Dominica, to attend my fathers funeral, to this day many years later, my daughter have yet to receive her luggage, while I was more fortunate to receive mine a day prior to leaving Dominica. Meanwhile the same thing happened to one of my sisters. She arrived in Puerto Rico from New Jersey; then went to Tortola where she and another sister residing there boarded a LIAT garbage flying machine to Dominica, by the time they got to Dominica, the sister who lives in Tortola, broke-away clean with all her luggage, however to this day, many years later one sister has yet to receive her belongings.

When my sister made a claim for her belongings, LIAT insulted her by offering her between two and three hundred dollars for all she lost.

One of the dresses my sister took to Dominica cost more than a hundred dollars in American currency, all of my daughter cloths lost or stolen in St. Lucia are designer cloths.

When shall LIAT be abandoned in order to resolve the heartaches especially Dominicans suffer while traveling on LIAT.

An international Airport built in Dominica, will eliminate or nations suffering, perpetrated on our people and the traveling public in general.

    Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque

    • July 2, 2013

After the first incident with you and your daughter why the hell would your sister choose somewhat similar route to Dominica? LIAT. Aren’t there other airlines going to the island? If it happened some years ago, the American Eagle was making daily flights to the island.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        July 4, 2013

You see Eyeball, the problem is not with the route chosen by my sister and I, the destination, and the means of getting to the destination via LIAT is the problem!

        LIAT is the problem.

The backwardness, the backward mentality of the government, and people of the country is practically responsible for the misery people like me and my sister suffers whenever we decide to go home and visit!

And although I do not know who you are, I will bet anything you are one of those people who are satisfied with Melville Airport, believing it is the very best in the world, I will bet anything you were one who believed Gonzales, when he told your government ( doh build no international Airport, just live with what you have; meanwhile, when ah done making a fool out of you; leave you stock with a purple (violet) Elephant with landing light I go build wan International Airport in St. Vincent for I and me people oui!).

        Hahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Maybe you have never left Dominica, I do not know; however, be informed it is almost impossible for anyone to enter or exist Dominica, without encountering this thing we call LIAT (Leeward islands Air Transport)!

Where have you been for the almost sixty years LIAT has been screwing up peoples life’s?

Rather “simplistic view” on the international airport score in Dominica, as believe me that will not solve all LATE’s dismal issues in the Caribbean.

In fact, those issues and problems are likely to be even more magnified and continue occurring for even more years which wouldn’t be of any benefit to anyone.

What needs to be done is for all those spineless, backboneless governments in the Caribbean region with shares going to their respective territories, to stand up and be counted and let (LATE)the days of crippling the commuters are now gone.

If they were to bind together as tight as possible and sing from the same hymn book, by collectively taking steps to remove this ridiculous backward, primitive, outdated and unsuitable WARSAW convention stipulation that allows only (LATE)to rule the region’s skies.

Who in their right mind agreed to such an absurd idea. :( Perhaps it may have been appropriate for yester year when air traffic was as fast moving and constantly evolving.

Not only has (LATE) failed to introduced constant new innovation but their customer services is one of the most appalling I’ve ever had the misfortune to be on the receiving end of.

Down with them I say, they’ve had enough chances to buckle up their shoes and instead they systematically continue to ignore, disrespect and take customers for granted.

I get rid of them ASAP and bring in “Virgin Atlantic”, a proper master in the travel sector and well known for their excellent customer care services is the answer to this long, ongoing, old issue.

Obviously, they’ll be able to bring in their small fleet to island hope but the main hobs will still continue to exist in the Caribbean region, making easy transition from their bigger fleet to the smaller ones continuing on to the islands.

Richard Branson is an astute business man and I’m sure he knows a good venture when he sees it, [and we don’t want to hear no rubbish about supporting our own], as we all know too well (LATE) is an exception to the rule that really just cannot be ignored any longer, otherwise Dominica and the region’s travel sector will continue to suffer and sadly lose out on prospective investors or adventurous visitors because of this joker (LATE) airline nonsense.

        July 2, 2013

The creating of an international airport will most definitely open doors and avoid majority of the problem that LIAT causes, cause majority of the frequent flyers now only have an option to take LIAT or LATE to Dominica. Access to the island is pretty difficult, tickets for connecting flights are strangling our accounts. We would love to visit home more often probably every year on our leave if we could but we can’t. A ticket to Barbados or St. Lucia straight from NY is pretty inexpensive, where you would have to pay an extra US$300 just to get to Dominica and/or even overnight depending on the flight, rather than a straight flight home. YOU THINK ABOUT IT! An international airport will answer many questions, such as investment, air access, increase tourism population and would change the business people’s mindset as well (College students could be hired on a part time basis to be able to make some pocket change for school, Business hours then would be extended, and money would most definitely flow)…. THINK PEOPLE, THINK!! … I really wonder if our Government officials read our comments on DNO?!.. no, they don’t have time!

U seem quite intelligent. How long has american been around for? Are people still not losing items on american? Therea several senarios that cud lead to people losing their bags.
      1) The tags fall off the bag therefore it seats in the customs area unclaimed untill its dumped.
      2) dishonest passenger picks up an identical bag to there’s only to find out its not theirs when they get home but fail to inform the airline but still call and ask about their bag.
      3) congested check in areas where a bag maybe tagged on another persons name and goes to the wrong destination.(agent error)

In regards to the story you have responded to how would an international airport in Dominica have solved that problem. I’m sure the flight in question stopped at several international airports. Mr Hicks may have even left from an international airport and his final destination may have been an International airport. Whether an international airport will solve our problems who knows. But for once just respond to the story and stop finding every reason to bring down the country. There are certain things that we need to stand and speak out against but we have to know when and where. please stop making it look like Dominica is the only destination in the world that you may not have direct flights too. In the good old US of A where you reside you cant always go from one city to another directly. on many flights you do have stop overs. I dont blame you for decrying Liat but dont use Liat as a reason to decry Dominica. If things are so bad in Dominica and things are so good where you currently reside get your family out of Dominica and forget about the country. Otherwise stick to the stories at hand when you comment.

The solution to this LIAT DRAMA is just another airline going up and down the islands. When will Caribbean Airlines come to the islands of Dominica, st vincent and so forthhh… If Caribbean Airlines come over well, dat would be dramma for liat. St Lucians have a choice as well as Grenadians especially to Trinidad but Dominica is reallly cut up in a no choice position. Bring Caribbean Airlines and trust me, de dramma done! Pay a higher fare on Liat? For what? A superior service? Don’t make me laugh. If it wasn’t for a kind Dominican Liat stewardess some years ago on a much-delayed flight from Barbados, who made me a paper cup of coffee using a sachet from her own purse I would still be waiting for my first Liat cup of coffee to this day!

The passenger did not necessarily book a flight with multiple stops for LIAT to take him island hopping. A few years ago I was on a flight from PR bound for DA when it was announced, while we were in mid air, that we would be landing in Tortola in a few minutes. Everyone was baffled because there was no prior notification and Tortola was not on our Itinerary. We then made a stop in ANU, sat in he terminal for over an hour and then in the aircraft until “Ti Buenage” (dusk)with no explantion. Everyone heading to DA was concerned because we had no night landing capability at that time. A few people were ranting and raving as we sat in the aircraft but we eventually made it home. LIAT is getting away with bad customer service because they have no competition in the Caribbean.

Hahahahaha…if I didn’t laugh I would cry. Nobody outperforms Liat in the customer service dept., trust me, they have no competition in that…hahahaha! Flying with them is a vacation experience in itself, hence heir “exclusive” fares …better take a thermosflask and sandwiches along. Boy, those Antiguans must have a brisk trade in used suitcases….hahahaha!By the way, is that the one in which we just invested $3 million? Is not a white elephant but a flying elephant. Welcome to the circus.

He may well do that. Imagine what publicity like this does to the share price of LIAT…all the way down, of course and the current shareholders may be glad to get it off their hands before they incur any further losses. Smart guy, very smart guy that Richard Branson.

mr branson don’t have time to think of small islanders like us who always call for competition and cheap fare but when its here those calling for it never travel thus leading to the closing of all the many other airlines.dominicans just like to hear themselves thats it. no one really takes them seriously including mr branson
