Convent Prep boys say they are special

The students on the march

Chanting loudly to make the world know they are special boys from the Convent Preparatory marched through the streets of Roseau with placards on Thursday morning.

The event forms part of the school’s “Boy’s Week” celebration.

Teacher of the school Shirley Lawrence said the school decided to deem this week “Boys Week” in an attempt to highlight the positive side of young boys. “We know that boys are marginalized so we saw it fit to do something that highlighted the good that boys do … therefore we deemed this week Boys Week to give them some recognition,” she said.

Lawrence added that a number of activities were planned for the boys of the school during the course of  the week. “Monday we had a career day where the fathers came in and spoke to the boys about the importance of growing up the right way and spoke to them about their various careers,” she explained.

She said on Tuesday the school treated the students to snacks and playtime in observance of International Children’s Day and a movie day was scheduled for Wednesday. Fathers were invited to the school to watch the movie with their sons.

“Today (Thursday) we are rallying through the streets of Roseau with placards to let the public know that boys are special too. The rally was organized in collaboration with CARIMAN and the Ministry of Education.,” Lawrence noted.

Boys week will come to an end with a sports meet for the boys and their fathers on Friday.

Hats off to the organizers of these events.i wish it could become an annual and national event.our boys all too often fall among the cracks, into crime, violencetec.our girls almost always surpass our boys accademically..highlighting the good of our boys will go a long way in making positive change in the attitude towards life in general..BRAVO CONVENT PREP!Be the trail blazers in that direction!

Excellent idea. They also need a diversion from studies. This will help to make them better, diligent students.
Good idea! I can imagine it was a sight to behold to see the boys, in their school uniform matching in Roseau. I bet they were also proud to be a student at the “Convent Prep School.” May they be future models. God bless them! Keep up this annual recognition and practice.

Go Convent Prep Go. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he grows old he will not depart from it. We need positive boys who will grow up to be constructive, and progressive men in the future. And will respest themselves, parents, girls and women when they grow up. Instead of killing, raping, doing drugs etc, they will be good, God fearing human beings. Whoever came up with this idea, more power to them. Keep on doing the right thing for the future of the country and the world as a whole. Love

What a lovely idea. We need to instil this in them at a young age so that they can grow up to be proud respectable men and fathers. Way to go Convent Prep.

awesome stuff. Let’s try to save our boys. Too many of them are growing up and dropping out of school, and sometimes it’s just due to a lack of attention. Let’s show them that they are indeed special and that we care!
