$3-million La Plaine Police Station to be commissioned

The newly constructed La Plaine Police Station is to be commissioned at a ceremony scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2015.

The La Plaine Police Station will greatly enhance law enforcement in the south-east of Dominica.

Prime Minister of Dominica the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, Minister for Justice, Immigration and National Security Honourable – Rayburn Blackmoore, Parliamentary Representative for the La Plaine Constituency and Minister for Education and Human Resource Development -Honourable Petter SaintJean will address the ceremony to commission the new station.

Minister Saint-Jean has lamented the need for an appropriate structure to house the LaPlaine Police Station. He said that for too long dwelling houses were rented and converted into police station in his constituency.

“It was just a few years after Hurricane David that the Police Station was demolished. Today we see the construction of a 3.2 million dollar facility in the community and this, indeed, speaks volumes of the kind of investment that the Government, the Labour Party Administration is making in the lives of the people of the south-east community and, of course, the various communities around Dominica by extension,” Honourable Saint Jean stated.

The LaPlaine Police Station serves the villages of LaPlaine, Grand Fond, Morne Journe, Riviere Cyrique, Rosalie and Beotica. The new La Plaine Police Station is financed through a loan from the Dominica Social Security of three million, two hundred and forty-four thousand, one hundred and thirty seven dollars and twelve cents ($3,244,137.12). The firm of A.K. Henderson Ltd. was awarded the construction contract for the project.

The new station has two buildings. The main building is a two-level structure, with the lower level housing administrative offices, holding cells and magistrate’s court. The upper level will house the male and female living quarters. The second building will serve as the Inspector’s quarters.

You just cannot please certain Dominicans. Anyway Jesus came and his own received him not either, why would these Dominicans receive one of theirs?

Build a Sports Stadium in the community, oh they should’ve build the Police Station.
Build a Church, Skerritt pumping too much money in church because church have money
Pave roads in one community, why not pave a highway to Guadeloupe?
Build a school at Newtown, it should’ve been built in Scotts head.
Are you Dominicans for real, yall are freaking kidding me. Skerritt is a strong guy and strong minded PM because i would’ve tear my xxss open for all you already. Wicked and perverse generation of vipers

Was it planned that 85% of the playing fields in the south east r unusable and or poorly maintained or unaccessible and a police station to the tune of 3 million is built? Keep the youth idle so we can arrest them??? Just wondering

Why do we have to pray ? Who taught us how to pray , did our Ancestors know about jesus in Africa. ? Why did jesus not teach us how to feed our selves? Why are we at the bottom begging for every thing. Do jesus wants us to remain bottom feeders. Jesus said be the head and not the tail why are we the tail.

I love that new building. You know what the weather could be like. Therefore, maintain it properly. Approximately every 5 years, give it a new coat of paint to keep its beauty.
If you want the Spirit of God to reign in your premises, I hope it is blest and also with Holy Water. Invite the parish Priest to perform this blessing.

It’s hard to tell a police station building from a school building. Why is it that the designs/styles are the same? DNO, why don’t you post my comments? Is this a communist state run medium?

If they had build it with a pointy roof, you would have said it looking like a church.. built it with straw, it looking like a barn, build it more fancy, you would say why they spend so much money on a police station.. nahhhh man

      August 13, 2015

That is nonsense. You cannot compare your house to the police station.
I should not even ask but I will. How many bedrooms and washrooms of all your house has?

      • marcua
        August 14, 2015

I absolutely agree with Linton wants to b pm. This building does not warrant a 3 million cost. We could gave had St least 6 police stations fir that price!

There is no way that this building should cost that amount. I estimate that the cost should be circa half a million dollars.

Who is profiting from these constructions.

        August 14, 2015

Don’t these police stations have re-enforced cells also and have to be built according to int specs? I cannot understand why so many childish and petty comments (like highway “rubbery”). You hear words but cannot put it into context.

    • August 13, 2015

Guess your house has a Charge Office, interrogation room, exhibit roon, a magistrates court, public restrooms, an Inspectors Quarters, cells with bath, Sergeants office to name a few.

My son Ron always told me that supporters of his party (UWP) will criticise anything, whether what they say makes sense or not. He told me, “Let Jesus Christ come to Dominica in human form and see the criticisms they will level against him”.

        Is a police station development??
        Cells for our youth??
What about a school? A youth center? Sports fields?

      • The Real Facts
        August 14, 2015

Some of them already criticize Jesus Christ, their (our) God, King, Savior and Judge. They have lemaire (hope I spelt this correctly).
They criticize anything. It is as if they are getting paid for it. This is why I brand them as being unfair and biased. I can see through them, by their writing. They are not even doing UWP a favor; more harm than good.
