$50,000 bail for Alpha Alexander

The High Court in Roseau

Alpha Alexander, who is charged with possession of a sub machine gun, has been granted bail in the sum of $50,000.

Alexander was arrested along with Lee Anthony during a police operation in Loubiere on October 4.

He is facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy but pleaded not guilty to both in court on Friday.

During the operation a white Escudo, registered TJ330 with two male occupants aboard, attempted to evade the police but instead struck a pedestrian, a police vehicle and a utility pole before coming to a stop.

As part of his bail conditions Alexander is to surrender all his travel documents and report to the Police Headquarters in Roseau every day.

This is not the first time Alexander has found himself in trouble with the law. Last year he was charged for a shooting incident at the All Nations Bar in New Town. In May 2011 he was charged with another man for attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm, robbery and possession of firearm stemming from an incident in Roseau.

Both Lee and Alexander are to reappear in court on February 4th, 2013.

They are represented by attorney Wayne Norde.

the justice system sucks! Soon the Police will not know what on earth to do because the justice system will frustrate them so much they will leave every offense up for grab and crime will run things in this peaceful land.

Its a shame to read these articles on a weekly basis.

Can someone conscientiously let this beautiful land fall for just a few pennies under the table?

    It breaks my heart.

When the Police arrest someone, don’t they take a mugshot of the arrested individual? And isn’t that mugshot available to journalists if they request it. Pardon my ignorance…I’m just asking…

      • Justice and Truth
        October 14, 2012

What if journalists/reporters requested it and were refused? I do not know how this works and I really would not bother about it. The crime is worst; granting him bail is bad for obvious reasons; the picture is not important. Am I correct to state that the Police reserve the right to give a copy or not.

It baffles me that those who are caught red-handed committing crimes and with illegal guns, evading police, not obeying instructions to stop, committing other crimes, causing injuries to the near death and death of nationals are granted bail. What is wrong with the Dominica Court system and jurisdiction?
Is there not enough space in prison and in the detention center to incarcerate this man and those as he who commit atrocious crimes?
If not, I hope the Chinese can aid in building a a bigger prison or extending it and also the detention centre and soon enough. Such a man who committed atrocious crimes more than once should not be bailed.
Do not think that outside governments do not access and read those Websites of all the islands. They have their people monitoring them. This is how it is also determined what type of government and law enforcement exists in those countries; not only the government but other non-profit organizations and agencies. The Internet has various spies. They also read the news and cases of crimes, criminals that are arrested, charged and convicted and how they are processed. This is another reason why those nationalsmust now obtain a Visa to enter the progressive ones.
Criminals from the islands who reside in those countries have made it difficult for law-abiding nationals to apply for a visa, accepted and obtain landed satus.
For God’s sake and that of nationals, get them off the streets once and for since they refuse to be law-abiding. These people are testing the weakness and laxity of the Court system and their lawyers and are laughing at them; mocking them. Bad enough Dominican taxpayers pay for their defense. Something has to be done about that.
DA authorities would do well to immediately revamp their procedure of bail for hardened criminals who do not give two hoots about the safety of other Dominicans. They are unloving, selfish and self-centered people. This is why murders and other crimes have escalated in Dominica. The Law is too lax. This really makes me angry.
Government, Court System, DPP and police authorities please take note and listen to the people whose safety and lives are at stake. How much more can law-abiding Dominicans put up with this?

You made me laugh. I remember that word well. I have not heard it in years. Please put some clothes on.
You made some excellent statements. They need to be rehabilitated. A rehabilitation centre is badly needed in Dominica. Too many young men/people commit crimes and are not receiving the necessary help to turn their life around and hopefully become law-abiding, useful nationals.
Stay tuned. The worst may be yet to come. Other countries are fed up of crimes in their vicinity, making it an unsafe environment. Take note:
If the Canadian/Federal New Bill C-43 comes into effect, “it will send permanent immigrants (non-naturalized Canadians) packing for any breach of laws, including marijuana possession” as published in a weekly Toronto Caribbean newspaper. In fact all newspapers. I read it this weekend. Many are already being deported from the U.S. and elsewhere. This is what is called “zero tolerance.”

Do not blame them. Dominica being a small country, what is occurring there is shocking and scaring people off, even tourists. Therefore, do not be sensitive about what was stated. It is not a dislike for Dominica but a dislike for the crimes/murders and those brazen criminals in addition to bailing them out, acquitting some of murder and not receiving sufficient imprisonment for the crime. The punishment must fit the crime. The economy is suffering due to crimes and people live in fear. Pray for your country and for those criminals that Dominica may be free of crimes/ murders. Practice the faith to the best of your ability.

He needs the grace of God. He cannot just opt out and change. He must decide to change. This is another reason why he should be incarcerated. Probably he could learn a lesson.
Freedom is sweet. If they commit such atrocious crimes and are granted bail, they will never change. They will only continue with their life of crime.

So what is a man with all those previous convictions doing on the street? Boy oh boy! I live to see the day when law will prevail in this country.

Until he commits a crime that involves family members of these ‘ money-hungry lawyers’.. This “ish” will continue!!!

Dominicans need to start vigilante groups as there is no law in DA!!! And investigate these lawyers too.

The appearance of this high court building is despicable, it is as dilapidated as can be. Anybody can enter at random if they wish; all they have to do is yank out the glass louvers, enter and take what they want and escape.

In that case records can be easily stolen, and criminal records vanished, even records of cases on the dockets for hearing can disappear, that building is an open wound, which need some treatment, the architecture stinks, as usual it is a stack of concrete blocks.

Such are the issues the people of the country people should be talking about and demanding better, rather than concern themselves with America, and presidential debate from which they will not benefit anything!

Apparently the condition of the building is simply a reflection of the quality of justice being being dispensed inside.

It may not be the best but to call it “dilapidated” is an exaggeration.

Man, get a life! The other day you were complaining about the Minister’s red shirt in Miami carnival and how he likes to go to people’s parties uninvited. This is so juvenile and immature for a big grown man. Now you’re talking about a court building. Suffice it to say that the old building has character. If you don’t like it lump it.

      @ Francisco

Do they not a have security alarm system? One should be installed. These days they cannot take a chance without such a system.
If I resided in Dominica I would have a security, alarm and camera system in my home. Why can’t the government take this seriously and install one in such important government places?
