Alleged suicide in Morne Prosper

dno news 1A Morne Prosper man is dead after he allegedly drank a deadly substance Dominica News Online has learnt.

A resident of the community told DNO that the man, who is in his 20’s, was not a trouble maker but had began to act strangely in recent times.

“He was behaving like a mad man and all of a sudden mister just go and drink gramaxone,” the resident said. “His mother and the family tried their best with him. I always know him as a cool youth.”

The resident said it is believed the man drank the substance on Friday and died at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Sunday.

DNO understand the young man lost his brother recently.

The resident said villagers are taking the matter “real hard” since they did not expect such devastating behavior from the young man.

When we contacted on Monday morning, police pro, assistant superintendent, Claude Weekes, said he had no knowledge of the matter at the time.

DNO will continue to follow this story and publish updates when they are available.

THE FACTS….. what are you talking about? Does a person confess of his or her sins before or after they have committed his that sin? You have been brain washed by the Catholic Church. I need you to show me where in your BIBLE does it say to kill yourself and then ask for forgiveness.

    • The Facts
      October 23, 2014

Where does the Bible say that you have to criticize me for making a statement that I know to be true as a Christian Catholic, The One and Only True Church that Our Lord Jesus Christ established?
You are the brainwashed one, spurred on by Satan, the enemy of God and of our souls who does not want you to know the truth. He also assisted you in religious division and disunity. You will find out someday.
If you knew all what is contained in the Bible, the New Testament, you would not make such a comment. You do not comprehend those spiritual matters. Therefore, it is not worth pacifying you. Pray to God for enlightenment.
Remember what St. Paul said, “Not the half has been told.”

It is sad what he did but it is obvious, someone in his right mind would not have done such a thing.
Exactly what help he got? Talking only could not have helped him. He should have gone/advised to see the psychiatrist who probably could have helped him. He did need help and probably medication which could have stabilized his nerves.

Young people have so much to cope with, especially when in a hopeless culture, where they can’t get a glimpse of the rainbow.

I have previously stated that the MP’s who represent those ridings should each make time to visit their constituents and talk with him or have a town hall/village meeting. Hopefully as many as possible will attend.
Those MP’s should reach out to especially the youths and have a one-to-one talk with them. If possible, to advice them or refer them to social services.
These people are left alone to their own devices with all their problems. They feel they have no one to turn to. This could be the end result as happened to this young man and others in the past.
It is pathetic that many youths including adults worldwide, no exception in Canada commit suicide. Even though we do not know who they are and are not able to assist them, we should feel saddened that a God-given precious life is gone. Surely, society, in their environment, could do more to assist them.
This is why I have stated that God is merciful. He knows their entire life, what they went through from childhood until they committed suicide. God has the first and last say in everything.

In Dominica mental illness has long been a stigma. It is ironic in the twenty-first century we still look down at people suffering from mental illness. Fact is we are all vulnerable to the diseases, though some of us are able to cope with it to a certain extent.

Because of the stigma most mentally ill persons hide the illness, and in most case refuse to seek treatment. About two years ago I have a relative who drank the same substance this young man drank. Let me inform all that this relative of mine a former athletic genus, educator, thought school prior to becoming a Methodist Minister, was recently Superintendent of the Methodist Church in Dominica after serving in the ministry in several parts of the world.

He earned a PhD. yet he was plagued with mental illness; as I said about two years ago his brother returned from buying the same substance, set it down and before he realize it his brother drank the poison! Banning the product will not prevent a mentality ill person from committing youth- in- Asia, if I want to kill myself, there hundreds of other means at my disposal. What is needed is when people notice a change in their children, and relatives rather than simply branding them “dotish” and crazy head the appropriate thing to do is to first take them to a regular doctor for evaluation who in turn will refer them to a psychiatrist.

It is important to note if the mental illness is cause by chemical imbalance in the brain, that mental illness should surface around age eighteen years old, with medication the mentally ill person should be able to manage the illness and live an normal life. If the issue of mental illness develops one is at an older age, in their thirties, and later, the problem could be related to life stressors, and atrocities.

I am not getting into that, okay cause I doh have a medical degree, so I will simply say, I know but I doh talking eh, cause perhaps I me self done crazy.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Anyway, cocaine, marijuana, and all the other mind altering drugs, including alcohol are contributors to mental illness! Anyway, in the case of my relative, he had a chemical imbalance in his brain, I discovered that way back when we were kids based on something he did to me, when my book is published some may read about what happened way back then, his medical problem was not due to the use of illegal substances.

This is the love, compassion, mercy and forgiveness of our God. There are some who underestimate our God.
This is why, we Catholics and others should pray daily, as often as we can,

“Sacred Heart of Jesus, once in agony have pity on the dying.”

This is an efficacious prayer that could help anyone who is dying, in whatever manner, in any part of the world to obtain the mercy and forgiveness of God. God hears our prayers.
One day we will reap the benefit of our genuine prayers, love, compassion, mercy and forgiveness for others. God bless!

People please, I really sympathize with this family but bam these substances for what? Farmers still require them. We as a people need to be strong, Christ centered and look out for each other more. We need unity and prayer. People, prayer is power! We open our lives to the devil and that’s when these things happen. When we gave problems, get someone to speak yo about it, to pray with. Let’s seek God in all we do.

I thought since these substances are known carcinogens they are already not legal in Dominica. Did they start allowing the use legally again?

The word of God declares, “when one member suffers, all suffer together; when one is honored, all rejoice together (1 Corinthians 12:26).

Today we mourn with the family and we lift them up in prayer:

We pray to Daddy God for He has not “despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help” (Psalm 22:24).

We declare the peace and grace of God upon the grieving family and pray that Daddy God will strengthen their hearts. May the God of all comfort; who comforts us in all tribulations, comfort them now and always, in Jesus’ name. We pray that the peace of God will guard their hearts and minds and they will find the courage to cast their cares upon him, for sustenance.

We come against every premature death in that family. We declare that none shall cast off their young again. Sorrow may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Family, your morning will break and deliver to you the joy of the Lord which is your strength, in Jesus’ name.

Be strong and courageous in the Lord, in Jesus name.

Poor man. Problems, his brother’s loss and whatever else were too much for him to bear. Since he took that chemical, I hope he did not suffer or too much.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family. Place his passing and your grief in the hands of the Lord who knows, sees and hears all things. As you grieve, he is consoling you and covering you with his mantle of love.
Take heart. Do not despair. The Lord knows what your loved one was growing through. The Lord is merciful.
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen!

take one or two psychology courses and bram, trying to use dem terms for people. Look of clinical definition for schizo and depression etc? With one or two symptoms, which psychologist/psychiatrist gonna make any diagnosis?
By the way DSM-5 made changes to these disorders. My point someone taking their own life does not mean they schizo or even clinically depressed.

All these behaviors don’t constitute mental illness.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. And believe the problem is temporary , just like today is temporary. Every body always thinks that their problem is the worst. In reality , it is not.

what is going on in Dominica? Youths remember suicide is a straight ticket to hell, please speak to someone in your village about your problems. While you may be thinking your have problems, there is someone who has it 10 times worst than you and they are getting help; so can you.

Go to church and ask Christ to come into your hearts. Go the beach/river and take to God in your own space. See a brighter future ahead. I can make it so can you.

    • The Facts
      October 21, 2014

You should have stated, “could” be a straight ticket to hell. If you were a Catholic you should know what this Church teaches. Too often people as you condemn others to Hell. God is the judge. I always say He did not create Purgatory for nothing; people as you do not believe in it but as Our Lord Jesus Christ said to an African visionary which I have on tape, “Whether they do not believe it, they will still have to go there.”
You better believe that God created Purgatory where souls He forgives will go for a period of time to be cleansed of their frailties. It is a Dogma of the Catholic Church as inspired by the Holy Spirit. This is how God is so good and many of you are blind and deaf to His love, compassion, mercy and forgiveness.
I have information on Purgatory copies of which I have also given to some people. Were it not for Purgatory, how many church-going people would be saved? Thank God for that. There is a lot which you do not know. Do your research about Purgatory. Pray to God for this enlightenment.
God weighs the sins and the situation. It is obvious that this young man was troubled. If one is troubled will God condemn him/her to Hell? Can he condemn himself to Hell? Think about this. Let God be the Judge and not you.
I leave this matter to God who judges everything, every phase of our lives and will pass judgment according to our hearts. He weighs out everything.
