Attempted kidnapping in Salisbury

attempted_kidnappingThe police in Dominica have confirmed that they have detained two men in relation to an alleged attempted kidnapping in the west coast community of Salisbury on Sunday January 12, 2014 at about 2.00pm.

According to eye witnesses, Jessie James of Salisbury intervened when an unknown number of men from the Roseau area stole a motor scooter belonging to Akim Morancie, also of Salisbury, in his presence. Mr James was then held by the men who attempted to place him on a vehicle. Reports are that the men were armed and some were masked as they attempted the alleged kidnapping. They then made their escape with the scooter.

However, one source has told DNO that the bike had been stolen and that the men decided to go to Salisbury after receiving a “tip off”.

“They grouped up and went to Salisbury but when they arrived at the guy’s home they were amazed to see another bike which the police had seized earlier and that had been placed at Morne Bruce for safe keeping. That needs explaining by the police,” the source stated.

“It has just begun because we need to get answers from the police and others,” one individual connected to the matter, stated.

The mother of one of the men from Roseau took to the airwaves on Q95 condemning the actions of the men. She said, “My son has done nothing wrong and they came to steal his bike.”

Member of Parliament for Salisbury Hector John is out of state but has issued a statement condemning the events.

Crime steps up because the average citizen is barred from having a firearm. If you want to see crime go down, trained armed citizens will do a far greater job than the police.

You guys who wanted to kidnap a man who had a motorbike, do you think you are in a big country?
For God’s sake! This is Dominica, a peaceful place where people once loved everyone including their neighbors and would help them.
You left Roseau to go all the way to Salisbury to steal a bike or to retrieve it from someone?
In any case, whatever the reason, you took the Law into your hands which is something you should never have considered doing for you will get yourself in trouble which is what occurred to you, fools.
Trying to kidnap someone and then what? I visualize what you would have done to him. You would have committed two crimes; in fact, three or more crimes. The other is for trespassing on someone’s property.
What is happening to you guys? Too much TV and bad, violent movies which have taught you these evil traits?
You are aging, getting older and are wasting your God-given precious time. You better clean up your act before it is too late for you and you die a miserable death without the blessing of God. You should know what will happen to those who die in such a state for all eternity. Do you not care?

O My Lord. What a headline: Kidnapping in Salisbury!. Seriously? My people let’s be pro-active instead of being re-active. It takes a village. Together we can defeat the evil in the country. It’s an island where we are related; let’s call wickedness as it is and take hold of the young people. Parents take control of your children and train up the child properly. Education is the key. Where are our manners? Who is committing those violent crimes which result in murder. Please bring back the death penalty if found guilty. Our island is too small for all this. I’m really getting turned off. Prevention is the key. Let’s pray and act.

  14. hmmm
    January 14, 2014

The mom is sayign that her son has done nothing wrong!

WOW – and then they blame the government with that kind of attitude.

Yes, his bike was stolen, but does that mean they have to go to Salisbury all armed up and ready for trouble to retrieve a stolen bike?

If the bike is legitimately his, and he has the papers and documents for them, then he should have taken these documents and go to the police station and inform the cops that he’s bike is in Salisbry.

They got a tip – they were not even sure it was the bike, yet they went all “gangsta” and ready for trouble to retrieve the bike.

if your son was right – then they would have gone without mask and arms and taken a police officer with them to the scene once they had confimred the bike was his.

then again, with sooteeweh mothers like that, what the hell do yu guys expect from Dominica.

What is going on in Dominica this is the taste of a lawless land.someone ask what does this have to do with politics? It have everything to do with politics.we do not have any strict laws set int he land which is creating all this crime because they are aware they will go to jail and be out in less than 2 years.
When I moved to NY you had to be careful to even walk the streets with.a brand name sneakers,it was bad, terrible and all of the above.however, when Giuliani became the mayor he took it by the balls and NY is a much better place to live.he was not the police chief ,he was the mayor which is part of the government.
The same applies to Dominica,it is a government issue..high unemployment rate will eventually drive high crime rate..If you want results you have to be prepared to make a change.

Dominica needs to take a serious stance on crime before it gets out of control. They need to start to ID and fingerprint known criminals. Sometimes we think it’s the dirty little guys that are committing these crimes but it’s some of those clean fellas. Police Officers needs to take their oath more seriously. They treat law abiding citizens like criminals and the criminals they let them go free. Some of these guys they might have grown up with but they have a job to do. Any officer seen associating with known criminals should also be arrested. Lead by example.

    • January 14, 2014

I think that the people that respond negatively are the ones contributing to the deterring of guests and businesses.

A crime was committed, DNO has every right to report the crime. Reporting crimes is a way to prepare individuals for their protection. We need to know what is going on, at all costs.

News is news. We Dominicans just cannot be pleased. I understand your point of view but i think it should start with the persons who come on here and give comments. If they did not report what is going on here we would complain and ask that it be reported. Besides, if is nonsense alone that happening and is that we can report about fro the time then so it is. All the good times need to come forward as well and give DNO something to report. We also need to expose the ills in society, no need to cover it up because it will only get worst.

The purpose of any news media are to expose the occurring filth within any society!

If one cannot do the time; they should not commit the crime. If you are so concern about the negative reporting, then do something to eliminate crime in the country, then all the news will become positive.

Ours is a very small country, with less than seventy thousand people, what do you think would happen if the population was larger?

The worst thing that can happen is for the news media to turn a blind eye, and refuse to report on anything such as crime, and corruption which can have an devastating effect on the nations economy and the safety of our citizens especially the young who are the future of the country.

You want it to be hidden, swept under the rug, covered up,pretend that all is well in Dominica, meanwhile the life’s of our people hangs in jeopardy while criminal continue to wreck havoc!

You should be ashamed to want to cover up something like that; DNO is doing what is right and people need to know!

You should not have made such a ridiculous statement. The news must be reported. This occurs in every country. Furthermore, visitors must be made aware of these occurrences so that if and when they visit, they will take precaution.
The world is no longer a safe place as it were in those days. Sadly so, as godlessness increased so do wickedness. It is through the grace of God that those who reside abroad have not found themselves in such situations and others. Keep worshipping God and praying to him for his protection. Then you will have nothing to fear but fear itself.

I doubt Dominica would be able to survive what Jamaica is going through now. In terms of crime, Jamaica is not unique; just take a look at what is happening in other countries in the region such as Trinidad, Guyana, Bahamas, etc. Consider for a moment that prior to the guns, drugs, deportation of criminals, political tribalization, greed and people trying to live at levels that are way beyond their means, Jamaica was considered to be a Paradise! For that matter, there was a time when people were able to walk alone anywhere in Jamaica at anytime and if they were afraid, it would likely be of a ‘duppy’, not a criminal. Dominicans, your country is beautiful; work to make it safe and enjoy it!

@ArAb, What does that have to do with politics, you asked? Everything. If not politics then VERY POOR GOVERNANCE which takes us back to politics and the root of the issue. Did you pay attention to what one source said? Read this again “However, one source has told DNO that the bike had been stolen and that the men decided to go to Salisbury after receiving a “tip off”.

“They grouped up and went to Salisbury but when they arrived at the guy’s home they were amazed to see another bike which the police had seized earlier and that had been placed at Morne Bruce for safe keeping. That needs explaining by the police,” the source stated. here is where polics comes in: How could a bike alledgedly ceased by the police and placed at Morne Bruce end up in somebody’s yard? Doesn’t that say something about the police department? Doesn’t that say that the leadership of the police is slack? Then who chose and elected the police commissioner? Was it based on qualification or something else? No matter how we twist it, we whop are sincere MUST go back to the root of the problem. There is a lot I would like to say but DNO will not put out so let me not waste my time. One last thing; With all the crimes taking place in Dominica since 2007, why has the government not try to come with an amnesty that would take possessions of these illegal guns? During the reign of UWP they had amnesty in place and in my capacity I had two guns returned to me. That two less guns on the street. Why does this administration do likewise if they really want to tackle crime?

Member of Parliament for Salisbury Hector John is out of state but has issued a statement condemning the events.

Your God is asleep and has let you down yet again, that’s why all these things happen without intervention from God. People need to take charge of their lives and stop depending on a God that does not listen, speak or answer prayers. Asleep way too long, Dominica!

The commissioner needs to temporarily arm the on and off duty police officers. Crime stepped up now the police needs to step up.

Other countries officer are to buy an extra gun which they have to register. I think that we shold step up.

nonsense, one of the main problem for the increase of crime in Dominica is because of the corrupted police force,u did not read that a scooter which was suppose to be in police custody at morne bruce was found in Salisbury?policemen have become politicians and as a result the desease which is found in the majority of politicians is now a serious epidemic in the police force.CORRUPTION.mr.commissoner doh never do a thing like that otherwise u will cry MAMMA in your office.what de commissioner need to do is get good police officers, and the politicians need to allow him to select his police recruits.imagine there is a police officer who is training police officers at the training school who is a criminal so what u expect.i understand your concern, but I disagree totally.

dont be silly, the officers in dominica are very immature and irresponsible.they should never be armed. until this is different and a “independent” supervisory panel and court with the teeth to oversee and prosecute them for wrong doings or irresponsible behavoir is created..
