The High Court in Roseau on Thursday sentenced 74-year-old Edward “Alcapone” Green to 25 years in the slammer.

Green was convicted for the 2008 murder of Damian Dorival.

Prosecutor Keith Scotland had asked the court for a “life sentence”.

Scotland called the incident “cold blooded, unprovoked and a senseless killing” which requires a “life sentence” in jail.

Defence counsel Peter Alleyne said there is no need to send an “extra message to society since it was not the worst of killings in Dominica.”

Green told the court he is “no threat to society” and “should later in life get a chance.”

I must respond to your foolish question. Who said he murdered him and did what you stated? It appears to be pure speculation. He had witnesses who gave evidence of where he was at the time the murder was supposed to have been committed. The Court did not take their evidence into account and/or did not believe them.
This man has been in prison for 5 years without a hearing. They already punished him. Let him be. He is at the mercy of the government and the court. Since he has to spend some more years in prison, pray for him and for other prisoners. They are all in dire need of God’s blessing and graces.
Pray for yourself too. If you have children and grandchildren, do likewise. Pray also for especially Dominican youths that they will never follow bad company and get themselves in trouble with the Law.

This is interesting. Is this true? Dominicans then celebrated the death of Hitler? All countries suffered to a certain extent while Hitler ruled. What a bold and wicked man he was. I do not expect his soul to be anywhere else but in Hell. Consider he starved people to death. He sent millions to the gas chamber.
I worked with a few people from Poland and Russia.
A lady from Poland who was in the concentration camp showed me the numbers they pierced on her arm. She told me after Hitler died, they wanted to pay her to take them off. She refused. They did not want the world to know about it.
Another one told me that they were well-to-do, had a big house and that people were sent to live with them. They had no freedom, could not confide in anyone for fear they would be reported. They did not know who could be trusted. This happened to everyone in Russia and wherever Hitler ruled. The people lived through Hell under that regime. They suffered a lot.
This was Hitler’s promise to them to make their life better. That man was a deranged man. Imagine the atrocities against Europeans.
He really thought the world was his and tried to have his way.
If you still have your freedom in Dominica, thank God. Pray for its continuity. Encourage peace, unity and harmony. If this is lost you have nothing as prisoners in prison.

Defence counsel Peter Alleyne said there is no need to send an “extra message to society since it was not the worst of killings in Dominica. I think this Defence Council has no heart, and no regard for people’s lives….he seems to have invested interest in Mr Green…we are not interested in any other crimes here, but the HEINOUS crime committed by this very evil man…he took someone’s son’s life, and partner or husband and maybe a dad away from their family yet, Mr Alleyne is being overly sensitive to his sentence – God help Dominica with Defence Counsel like Mr Alleyne. The sentence should have been TO DIE in PRISON….HE should not be allowed to see Day light again…Evil man…Shame on Mr Alleyne for condoning such HEINOUS Crime…

i believe we place too much human emotion into our justice system. the man’s lawyer is correct to state that this is not the most heinous crime and given the challenges to mr Green as it relates healthwise he probably could have been given a lesser sentence. At least he would be able to spend time with his family b4 he goes to the eternal place of punishment. And the victim is already dead why not focus on healing the lives of those who are still living

    25 years hmmm….. now lets be a little more realistic …. 25 years – 5 already spent on remand divided by 2 since 1 night = a day and 1 day = a day in prison….hence 1 (real) day equals 2 days…. (25-5)/2= 10 (real) years…. a more realistic figure.

Is this the mitigating factor that Mr Alleyne used in his client defense. As a law student I find that statment absurd for a seasoned lawyer like Mr Alleyne. As a student I was taught that your concern as a lawyer should be for deterrence when sentencing. Minimizing the the crime by comparing it to othere crimes seems inappropriate to me.

    October 18, 2013

Mr Alleyn is right; the killing of nurse son on carnival day is more gruesome than that of Alcapone cause the killer was caught on camera and still got away. No one saw Alcapone butcher the young man but many people saw the ruthlesd killer butchering the young man on thst carnival day. That is more gruesome in my opinion

    • Natural Living
      October 18, 2013

@lang mama….that carnival tape was kept out of court by the prosecution because it showed other people and not the person who was on trial…educate yourself instead or perpetuating lies….thats why he was released…

    • Justice or Just Us?
      October 19, 2013

Although I do not know the circumstances of that tape because I didn’t see it, it is my opinion that “we” as a people failed to deliver justice for Dalrymple. Did the persons who saw the killing testify? That is where the problem is…with us. Time for us to take responsibility as a people for our actions and in-actions. We can save lives simply by positively minding ourselves, our relatives and friends. Stop support crime. All crime is crime.

I knew Damien well. 25 years translates to 25-5/2= 10 more years for his killing. Is this really justice especially when you consider the circumstance?

To all those saying that he should be sentenced to life, think back on what was the big argument a while back in regards to the gentleman who was sentenced for the Honeychurch murder. Alot of us were saying that he had spent enough time in prison and it was inhumane to keep him in prison any longer. At that time I was wondering what precedent were we setting when the arguement for his release was that he was in prison for to long and it was inhumane. How can we now expect to send anyone to prison for life when we complain that someone who had been imprisoned for less than 30 years has spent too much time in prison. That’s why we need to be careful what we ask for. Now alcapone gets 25 years why should we complain. Now please don’t think that I’m saying he should not have been sentenced to life, because he should, or that the other gentleman should not Have been released. My concern is the precedent that was set. He could have been released for any other reason. So now it’s only fair that the maximum sentence for any crime should be the same. meaning that persons like alcapone will not get the sentence that they truly deserve.

Me? I want to be like Jesus. Forgive my enemies. Judge not least ye be Judged. If that man repent of his sins he’ll make it into heaven; and all who stand to be self righteous and un-repented for all of their “little” sins will not enter in. This is not to say that I’m siding with the convicted. But we too must be careful. It could be our child or relative tomorrow who may be placed in the “SLAMMER.”

    • Tri-State Beauty
      October 18, 2013

This isn’t about rejoicing for anybody can do anything anytime, however if Damian were your relative, friend, you would feel differently. Likewise if Alcapone were, you would want people to be sorry especially given his years. Having said that, take comfort in knowing that forgiving somebody of a crime or any wrong against you, doesn’t mean they automatically get to go free. If my family member did this, I would be distraught, but they would have to sit their arse in prison and face the consequences. Maybe I’d still visit, but you do the crime, you do the time. Note too, when people doing mischief for long, and always get away with it, they believe their own hype and think everyday is Christmas. Do you believe this was his first rodeo with brutality?

Well Ben Dong the Bible also says: Genesis 9:6

“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.”

      • Justice and Truth
        October 18, 2013

I am obligated to respond to you. Your quotation from Genesis 9:6 in the Old Testament caused me to respond.
It is for this same reason Our Almighty Father sent his only Son to earth that whoever believes in him might not perish eternally.

Grace and Truth Came Through Jesus Christ – John 1:17.

Recall what Our Lord said about “An eye for an eye…” He said, “But I tell you…”
Our Lord taught us, it is not an eye for an eye…but that we must forgive. Study the New Testament.
He also said, “If someone slaps you on your cheek, turn the other cheek.” You should know what that means.
The Lord said: “Vengeance is Mine. I will repay!” It is not for us to take vengeance.
Taking revenge is committing murder. It is hatred. Our Lord taught us to forgive from the heart. He also taught us to love one another.
These are the words and teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ which all of us are obligated to obey.
Whether it is murder or not, we are obligated to forgive. The problem with some people is, they do not pray to God (or as they should) with a loving, humble and contrite heart to ask him to soften their heart to forgive.
You should know Our Lord said, “Unless you forgive from the heart neither will my Heavenly Father forgive you.” You better study and concentrate on the New Testament which is, the teaching of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Apostles, the latter, as inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Remember too, Our Lord said, after He goes, He will send His Advocate – Holy Spirit – who will teach us and tell us what to say.
The Lord is faithful and true to his promise. He will never rescind it. I reiterate, we are obligated to obey or face eternal punishment, caused by disobedience, retaliation, stubbornness and rebelliousness.
Try going before the Lord for your judgment and say, “I refuse to forgive. I will never forgive. I did it my way.” See where your soul will end up.
It is said, “We will not go to Heaven on our terms. We will go on Jesus terms”, based on his teachings and the religious teaching of the Church.
Hope you get this straight into your head before it is too late for your manner of thinking which is not what Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us and expects of us. Too many quote from the Old Testament and not from the New Testament.
Our Lord wants us to concentrate, learn, teach and live the New Testament – His Word – The Gospel of the Lord.

The things some people state. Who said he will die in the jail? Are you God? What about you? Do you know when you will die and how? He may live longer than you. His end may be happier and peaceful than yours. He has people as also relatives praying for him.
Let us send up prayer petitions to God to help those as he who are in dire need of them. God forgives.

Be careful what You meditate on !Since I was a child I have heard these words uttered by Persons”I will kill Mister “or”I will kill a man”.This constant mantra becomes the highlight of the meditation of some individuals.Known to always be threatening and carrying an illegal firearm seems like this individual got His desires fulfilled. Let this be a lesson to the type of mindset we cultivate as we go through life.

…And you know, some people make that statement in jest, not meaning it and obviously with no intention of carrying it out. They soon forget about what they stated for it was not serious and not to be taken seriously. They are merely words stated, strange, amicable words, to relatives and friends who somehow annoyed them or played a prank on them or teased them.
How many times even children make that statement and do not even give it a thought after having stated it. Something to contemplate on.
