BREAKING NEWS: Policeman arrested

arrestedA junior police officer of the Dominica Police Force and his girlfriend have been arrested and are now in police custody in Roseau as members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) investigate a matter which involves the stealing of bus parts.

DNO can confirm that the police officer, who has been a member of the Police force for about three years, was arrested at Donkey Beach in Canefield on the evening of March 13, 2014.

Reports are that the officer, who was placed under surveillance by the police, went, along with his girlfriend, to the area and stole parts from a bus.

“He was caught red-handed and is now in police cells along with his girlfriend,” one police source confirmed to DNO.

The officer is expected to be processed and taken to court on Monday March 17, 2014 where he and his girlfriend will be charged.

Do you reside in Dominica? How many times DNO has to inform you impatient readers about this? Are you not aware the names and pictures cannot be posted prior to their appearance in Court and formally charged?
Take your time. You will soon find out after this is completed. You should know that DNO cannot post the pictures and names prior to that. This information must be released by the police authorities.

Ok so he was caught red-handed. So why is it his name is not mentioned in the report? I think it time the names of the crime doers (even if it’s alleged) and there accomplices be named.

The Country Tight Tight Tight Tight Tight like a Virgin; What you expect, his salary Tight, and his girlfriend maybe greedy. you know how some women can be very materialistic.

Then again, he needed parts to fix his passenger bus or his pardner bus or to sell so he can get a little extra pocket change to make her happy, lol hahahaha, what a joke.

No wonder some of the citizenry have no respect and do not trust those who are entrusted to protect us. How does one respect, follow or obey the laws on the land; when the very same who are suppose to carry out the laws of the land, uphold it, are the very ones breaking; what a shame.

It is very important to praise the police department for a job well done we the people has always blame the department for not doing there job, so people slow down and thank them for a job well done arrest them , those that are dirty, clean house, all those who steal fire arms from the armoury, get them too..

It is imperative that we give compliment where it is due. Too often some appear either they are not aware of it, never were taught, have forgotten about it or ignore it. We are obligated to do so and offer encouragement; not discouragement. This is also a mark of a patriotic national and a good Christian. We know that Our Lord said, “By their fruits you will know them.”
The Lord knows that people will fall into sin. Some commit offences to the point of losing their jobs. He expects that should we fall in whatever manner, pick up the pieces, ask forgiveness, make reparation with a vow not to repeat the act (s) and prod forward with the help of God.
This is also why a country has a prison to incarcerate criminals whereby to a certain extent they pay for their crimes.
Some are fortunate not to be imprisoned. The latter should also assist them to become better and fruitful nationals.

If there is one thing you should learn is to broaden your mind, manner of thinking and educate yourself that, no one is one and the same, no one should be compared to another and no two people are alike in personality and characteristic traits. In other words, you do not judge them all as being the same. You project your ignorance, lack of compassion and understanding.
Whatever the police is paid is no one’s business. It is an internal and private matter which no one and no inquisitive person should question
What could be done in certain cases, if need be is to provide a salary range of officers (employees) in a certain category and of a certain status but never to reveal their income.

Clearly, it is my opinion that one is innocent until proven guilty.

As such, I am sure that the Commissioner, Mr. Carbon, is a man of wisdom and will give this officer (the accused) a fair chance to make his case.

However, if found in default, he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

As a former police officer; ethically, morally, or socially this development is not welcoming, therefore, this irresponsible officer should be made an example of.

Otherwise, I applaud the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force for the excellent job they have been doing.

This island is loaded with thieves. Considering that the return of stolen property is probably below 1% and people are being ripped off right and left, This whole thing looks like something to make the police dept. look good but is questionable. We need police that can actually go find the stolen property. People’s motorcycles, tools, furniture, etc. are stolen and disappear into thin air. And where are the police and what are they doing about it? Not much.

It is sad and embarrassing for the Dominican Police Force that one of their own was caught in this action. It is a bad mark on them; not for them that one of their own would stoop so low, to this degree and commit a crime.
They were aware that he had committed an infraction, be it more than one which is why he was placed under surveillance. In this case, the authorities did well. They have done their job and part in apprehending him.
They did not turn a blind eye or a deaf ear even though it is one of their own. This should inform D/cans that the authorities are serious about making the Police Force an honest and reputable one and to clean it up.
The authorities should be complimented on what they have done in arresting him and his girlfriend. We cannot see the future. Who knows, in the long run, it may be for his very own good. God knows!
Be aware that no establishment is devoid of flaws and employees who commit crimes, one way or the other. Today, we have TV and Internet and we hear and read more than ever. It is an “information overload” which I hope our minds and brains can accept; we will not buckle under these news and it will not affect us.
As for the policeman and his girlfriend, they have much to regret. They have found themselves in a dilemma with the Law. As a member of the Force, he must feel extremely embarrassed. He will, no doubt, apologize to them for his actions.
We are to pray for every one. Let us do that.
Our Lord forgave the thief who was repentant. You Christians, remember what the Lord said to him while He was on the Cross before his death: “This day you will be with Me in Paradise.”
Having stated that, it crosses my mind (hopefully through inspiration) that those of you who say people are dead and we do not pray to dead people, ask yourself and note what Our Lord said to that thief. Your false teaching and indoctrination do not measure up to Holy Scripture, The Word of the Lord.
Refer to that passage and that after Our Lord died, He descended to the dead and took the good souls with him. They were waiting for the Scripture to be fulfilled and Our Lord’s presence to take them up to Heaven. Our Lord when to Heaven first and they followed after him.
Some of you say there are no souls in Heaven. You have failed in Holy Scripture knowledge. This is mortal and spiritual food for thought to contemplate on.
No matter whom, if we ask the Lord with a contrite and humble heart, He will forgive us, no matter what we have done. Keep this also in mind, some of you who are hard-hearted, unforgiving and love to lambaste people and make derogatory remarks about them, even when they may be innocent.
As we ask Our Lord to have mercy on us, let us also have mercy on those who were weak of body and spirit. Some of you as Christians need to learn this for your good while you are alive and for the good of your soul later on when you stand before the Judgment Seat of Our Lord Jesus Christ that He may have mercy on you – on us.

I don’t even want to waste my time to post a comment because the way DNO is operating these days, especially in 2014, is a clear sign they do not want us to comment but they just not saying that. In a day you would be lucky to see them post over 50 comments. After two days or so they will just come and moderate 150 comments and later that same day, the subject vanishes away. I guess they are being affected by the virus Skerrit brought to Dominica

1.check their comment policy they don’t have a lot of staff to approve your comments seconds after u post it, although on some days that does happen. So check your ego and your ignorance at the door and be thankful you get to express yourself so regularly and so freely smh…. You ever compare to Davibes n those othersites, its even worse there.

      2. Each story shows the number of comments approved next to it, simple arithmetic shows its a lot more than 50 comments in a day… political stories (cuz dats what we like) will have 300 + comments going in one day and majority are negative thats just one story and I’ve seen stories with way more. meanwhile positive stories get like 5 and 10 comments sometimes.

they even publish ur comment when u being critical of them, you have the right to free speech not the right to spew ignorance and negativity…

I simply wrote a five line comment where I said I didn’t want to waste my time to comment on the subject matter because DNO has not been keen to post like they used to, and for that you wrote a 13 line attack and jumped all over me even calling me names? I am quite sure DNO did not see it in this light. I am quite sure they just saw it as I telling them to get busy posting all of our comments. That’s all there is to it. I did not say I did not like them or they were bad. In fact I do appreciate the fact that they have given us an avenue to express ourselves whether we are blue, red or yellow. By the way, when I said they don’t post more than 50 comments a day I did not mean in totality. I simply meant per subject as. So don’t get high blood pressure and call me names for that man. I love this, it states that the force does have zero tolerance for crimes and they dont cover it up, they are even arresting their own when they commit a crime, so as much as ppl think that our police force is corrupt they show that they dont tolerate corrupt cops as well as criminals on the outside, so sometimes we should not always critise the police force but commend them for a job well done

As a police officer I needed to read at least one comment like that. We are trying our best to rid ourselves of those among us who don’t deserve to wear the state’s uniform, but they come from the public and we cannot see their heart, so there ill always be some like that guy among us but we will NOT hide them once we have the evidence they will be treated like anyone else who commit the same act. There are so much genuine civilians who might be supporting blue and they will never be given a chance to join the Police force. The officers responsible for the vetting process first question to the public when they call is, what party the individual supporting. What do you expect!! Are you serious? Ensure what you stated is correct. Do they ask them what Party they support? They are not supposed to ask this. It is a private matter between the applicants and who they support. I would think in Dominica it is illegal and discriminating to ask such a question. If so, based on their response, they would not be considered for an interview, training and a position.

As Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Much is required of the person entrusted with much and still more will be demanded of him.”
To whom much is given much is expected in return. This goes for each and every one of us, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, relatives, friends, employers, employees, others in authority.
This is why Our Lord said: “Let he who is without sin caste the first stone.” He also told us to be merciful as your Heavenly Father is merciful.
After all is said and done, feel sorry for him and his girlfriend and pray for them. Keep in mind they have a family who is obviously shocked, saddened, disappointed and embarrassed at what they have done. It is like they are mourning for them and no doubt are grieving.
This policeman made a grave error which he will deeply regret. He has to pay the price. He and his girlfriend are obviously regretting their action.
There is a reason why the Law depicts that it is fair and metes out just sentences and punishment as they assume criminals deserve according to the Law.

    • Simply the Truth
      March 15, 2014

I am not stating that those in previous years were not honest. I recall some policemen and also women. They looked honest. . Even as married men, they had their fault and weakness as most men do – girlfriends. This is what I knew about some of them.
Consider today is totally different from bygone years. We did not have TV, Internet and computers then. People were not as curious and aggressive as they are today, wanting to know everything. Putting it mildly, nosy for that matter.
We knew nothing much or nothing about what was going on in those establishments. We also did not give it a thought. We were too innocent and trusted every one. We placed people with certain positions on a pedestal and thought they could do no wrong.
This also includes politicians, those who headed Dominica of those bygone years who probably stole a lot of money from Dominicans when Great Britain of all sent money to the Treasury.
We never knew if other world organizations sent money to Dominica. We never knew where the money went and if they took it. We never gave it a thought nor questioned them. If we would ever do so, we would not have received a response and probably told to mind our business.. These and more.
Therefore, when you criticize your government (if you do), keep this in mind. In those days, Dominica was deprived of a lot of financial assistance which could have aided it and taken it out of poverty including the poor people.
I state this to be fair so that you will open your mind to this, that those whom you accuse of corruption (if they are) probably could not be half as bad as those in bygone years. Much was hidden from “the people” in those days while they lived in luxury and without want.
We did not question how many times they were out of the country, where they went to and the reason why they are not in D/ca. We did not ask to see the financial record of the PM’s (Chief Minister’s) travels. We did not emphasize transparency.
In those days, Dominica was poor. Some people were poor unlike today. There were few jobs. Why did an influx of D/cans migrate to the U.K. and elsewhere, the majority of them? Yet did anyone hold it against the government in those days, saying “We want jobs”? Not at all. If they did, few did and I knew nothing about it. In any case, those governments were not concerned about getting jobs for nationals. This is being fair and just. Food for thought.

That’s not very common, a police being prosecuted. I guess you have got to get caught red handed
