UPDATE: Sarah Lynn Augustine gets bail

Sarah Lynn Augustine, who is accused of killing her two children, will be home for the holidays after receiving bail today.
She has been on remand for some time.
Augustine was charged on September 28, 2010 with the murder of her two children, five-year-old Rachael Vigilant and two-month-old Sophia Vigilant.
The incident, which shocked the nation, took place at their Mahaut home in the wee hours of September 16, 2010.
The children were allegedly killed with a knife.
When Augustine made her court appearance today, she was escorted by a female police officer to her hearing which was reportedly done in chambers and away from the press.
Dominica News Online understands that preliminary inquiry into the matter is probably completed and her trial could come up at the January Criminal Assizes.
She is being represented by attorney Zena Dyer.
After the hearing she briskly walked out the back entrance of the court building with her escort, her eyes to the ground. Augustine used her hand as a shield from cameras which were on the scene.
Information with regards to the terms and conditions of her bail is still not known but Dominica News Online is seeking further information into the matter.

No human has the right to take a life. If in self defence it is understandable. Two wrongs don’t make a right. But it is our business that she is free! So the public is not to be protected from murderers? If they decide she is o.k. now she still needs to be locked up along with all the other murderers running free in Dominica! if the juustice system of dominica was in my hand, she would never escape my judgement. first of all she would be incasurated for a 100years under some tight conditions.(1) she would be placed in an isolated cell.(2)her cell would be decorated with the crime scene photos of her decease child(3) she be fed only twice a day.(4)she would not be allowed to see absolutely none of her family members & if she dies in prison before the 100years is over, her bones would be kept there for the additional sentence.

I am a mother too. When I just had my baby I was depressed for a while. I just tell my whole family Please watch me closely I dont feel right. And they came. I guess its all about being honest with yourself. No ones perfect, but we can prevent horrific incidents when we ASK and SEEK help. I dont know if any mother can identify with this situation (depression) some mothers tend to hide their feelings too much. Just come out and tell somebody how you feel. Dont do your children wickedness it doesnt pay. I will not comment on the brutal murder of the two precious children. Dat one really hard and I am still shocked. I pray that she gets help because she has the rest of her life to face this painful ordeal. So family members outthere, when you have baby in the family keep close, help, just being there makes a HUGE difference. say positive things to them dont remind them of the “sin” or tell them they not ready. the baby is here so just deal with it. Life is precious and the babies grow up to be a BLESSING. I will b forever grateful 2 my family for they stuck with me through thick and thin. No crime and still he is in jail till they find out why. He has to pay big money 25,000 US for bail and still pay to be extradited to the next State his home. I don’t know this girl but do you really think a mother would actually kill her own kids in such a way if she is well? Please read up on POSTNATAL DEPRESSION and then make up you mind. Are you aware that she had premediated that murder?? Based on the reports, she instructed the babysitter to place the both kids to sleep in the bed togather. Also these are not her only kids I understand, she had twins and gave them up for adoption. Why was she not placed on conception and not have more kids. “POSTNATAL DEPRESSION” only struck her when her fourth kid was born and their father left her??? God has a special place for her.

Assuming all the postpartum depression is evidenced and holds to be true. Is it in her best interest or the best interest of society to release her on bail? She goes home, starts reflecting on what has actually happened, spends time in the children’s room. Is met with animosity by neighbors? What in her “postpartum” state, after having committed such an act and having realization sink is would you imagine she would resort to?
In addition, the issue is not whether or not she suffers from postpartum depression; it is whether or not she is guilty of murder. Whether or not those murders were premeditated, cold blooded murder and/or whether or not she according to her fans (and I use this term loosely) should be treated for mental health disorder(s). To any effect, an act was committed, one where a suspect is not alleged but evidenced, two innocent children lost their lives. The holding of the suspect should not be one that is taken lightly and it appears that the it is not what is wrong with the justice system, it is more “who” is wrong with the justice system.

As a mother of a newborn …. to say the honest truth i just dont know how one can find it their heart to murder their babies…even when there are times when motherhood gets overwhelming i just cant see it..this is too heart aching and only God knows ..Guess he will be the ultimate judge in the situation…some people snap and dont think and act based on emotions…However i believe that God has given us a choice … a choice to defer what is good and bad……my baby is my motivation to good no matter what the circumstance … we have to fight to defer between good and bad with the strength of the lord!

Let’s assume for a moment that she is insane and was granted bail on that premise. Wouldn’t it then be safer for her to be institutionalized as opposed to be out – where since she is “insane” may be faced with the temptation and frustration of performing another “alleged” heinous crime? And if she is in fact insane- why grant her bail without disclosing to the public that an “insane” alleged criminal is in their midst. If she is insane- why isn’t there any regard for public safety- aren’t there other children in the neighborhood?

Dominica is just a country that lacks legal structure. That woman should have never seen the light of day insane or not. But the way, it is my understanding that this is not her first offense as it pertains to causing bodily harm. Heard she has also injured a family member, as well as, she also has kids she gave up for adoption in Canada. It is time that Dominica revise their legal system and have a more structured one. It seems that the least punishable crime is murder, you are garanteed to get bail.

The childrens father has forgiven her. And still has a close relationship with her. There is something very funny about this case. Shes all over facebook on a regular basis. The father is her friend on fb, and when she was leaving dominica for canada they were seen embracing each other. I find this whole case to be an utter upset not only to domenica but the entire world. Sarah at this time is living a life that most of us would be envious of!
