Shooting in Campbell

Dominica News Online has received reports of a shooting in the village of Campbell.

Reports are that a man, identified as Fontaine Benjamin, was shot and injured during a robbery or attempted robbery incident.

He was reportedly taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital by friends who found him bleeding at his house.

According to his friends, Benjamin was bleeding from his torso down to his genitals and from his hands. He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

There is currently a small crowd outside the hospital.

Police are actively searching for a man from Canefield who is suspected of being the shooter.

DNO will provide more details as it becomes available.

After investigating the matter as far as i know that was a plan robbery, that guy from cambel was the target,And that same guy that shot the benjamin guy, use that same gun before, right at canefield, and nothing was done about it, now he got away the first time and so he went a little further by shooting the and hoping that he will get away to, now the shooter from canefield he has done things and get away with it all the time, and sometimes we wonder if he works for the cops, because they will pick him up , and time you blink your eyes there he is again commiting the same crime over and over again, now he has short someone we are waiting to see what happens next, how soon he is going to get out,

The problem of crime is a growing problem in the caribbean. The problem is not the gun that people use, it is the people who use the gun. Yes gun control is needed but the mentality of people worldwide has degraded to potray an animal like behavior. Law enforcement is not the answer either. Attitudes must change and to do that we need to look at ourselves and learn to Love as Jesus loved us.

The main problem is that Satan is loose! Seems more now than before! No matter how much law there is the problem will go on and on!
It is a worldwide thing. Even nine year olds are on this evil run like in London and the authorities are finding it hard to control.
Time we all agree to PRAY TO OVERTHROW THE ENEMY. Or else our loved one will either be a victim of such crimes or he might be just attracted to hurt others.
The power of Satan is strong!

Dominica is too free. we need more random searches by the police. The police need to bug our telephones and if we have nothing to hide we should not worry. CRIME MUST BE STOPPED BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.LAW AND ORDER HAS TO BE THE NORM OF THE DAY.Police need to clamp down on grandbay people ,portsmouth people and the north eastern villages.

Evalina Baptist can only charge what the laws and judicial guidelines allow.Didn’t the PM say that people caught with firearms would go straight to jail Do you see that happening? NO, because the PM and the cabinet has not done anything to change those antiquated laws that we operate under, so we will continue to fine criminals peanuts, and let them go and commit more and more crime. We need to see what the real problem is here.

dominica land of beauty, land of splendour!!!!! most governments do boast when their country has seen a decrease in criminal activities. unfortunately mr roosevelt skerrit govt cannot by any means boast of this achievement. yes he should say that his govt has seen an big increase in criminal activities. if there was a decrease would’nt the govt take the merits? so now is the opposite why should’nt it be given the demerits? its all the govt fault for this lawlessness in this country.

Anonymous, where are you from? Pay heed. Your very own words: “What you don’t know you can’t judge” also applies to you and condemns you.
I know some very good law-abiding people from Campbell and Mahaut. Cease generalizing and giving all villagers a bad name including the man who was victimized and injured. Furthermore, you do not know where those thugs are from. They roam the towns and villages and some of them were not originally from those areas.
You should know that in every town and village there are good and bad people. You act as though you are perfect and know it all.
Unless you can prove otherwise cease your negative views, ignorance, insults and narrow mindedness to yourself. Allow the Police to conduct their investigation and wait for their verdict.

    August 17, 2011

A serious rethink and restructure of gun legislation is needed in this country. Then the government needs to take all the police which are in Roseau issuing stupid pointless tickets to drivers and make them patrol the streets of Dominica. When was the last time you saw police officers walking on pairs in your village? Just doing normal police patrols? Never! We need police presence in every village, uniform police, just engaging the communities. Look how far Campbell is from Mahaut, and yet after all these years they have no police station there. all it takes is four police officers and a little shack. This is pathetic.

I guess the Mahaut polcie had info that there was going to be a shooting in Campbell and they were supposed to be on the scene before it happened OR they had no other report that they could have been dealing with in this large district when they got the info and I guess when they get that info they should just rush to Campbell without arming themselves like sitting ducks right???I wonder if people like you ever think before you post these silly comments. well i did some digging and i can say that the shooter and havr recoverered the gun and arrested the guy who had the gun hidden. Also info suggest that the polcie when they got the call it was rather late as the Ambulance was already leaving Campbell with the victim so to prevent the shooter from atatcking again they accompanied the ambulance to PMH to secure rthe victim and then returned to Campbell. So much for your ill informed statements. I hope that you write a more balanced comment in the future ok. laterz

corections::: they have the shooter in custody, had to go all the way to Calibishie to l;ocate the guy and theyhave recovered the firearm and charged the guy who had it holding for the shooter. I think they may be brought to court tomorrow I will keep you all informed. I thinkl I should apply to the CDPF. See, some simple fact finding and I can educate lots of my fellow domincans on this issue. Stop blasting the police please.

  31. Justice and Truth
    August 16, 2011

As I read this article I thought with a sigh of sadness, “Oh Boy, not again. Not another shooting.” Another innocent person is attacked on his premises during a robbery. This is occurring too frequently.”
Something drastic has to be done about that and those guns. Where did those people get the guns from? Those thugs are too trigger-happy. They go to steal and carry a gun. We know the reason why they carry a gun, to steal and to murder if anyone stands in their way.
They are so callous and do not even consider their immortal souls and that God has taken note of their actions which is written in the Book of Damnation, that they will go to Hell for their evil actions.
I hope that the thief and murderer is found and arrested. This is what is meant that thieves commit more than one crime, stealing and murder and/or attempted murder. These people do not have a heart and a loving one at that.
It is high time for the Government and the Police authorities to put a spoke in their wheel once and for all.
Dominica needs to be free of guns which are in the hands of irresponsible young people who do not think twice to utilize it.
Let me further state that whoever allowed them to bring guns into Dominica by whatever means, whether by air or sea, they are equally responsible and guilty of crimes/ murders. Has anyone ever thought of this?
Guns are generally used for hunting and to protect people from predators as bad animals and trespassers – evil people. A shot can be fired to ward them off.
It is not wishful thinking to state that guns were never meant for thieves and murderers to own and use, to break and enter residents’ homes, trespassing on their property, steal their belongings which they purchased with their hard-earned dollars and as these people protect their properties, they are shot. Note the difference.
It is a trauma for anyone who experiences such. I pray and hope that the gentleman who was injured fully recovers.
We must love one another; help them whenever the opportunity presents itself; not steal from them and harm them. This is primarily the Law of God and secondly, by no means least, the Law of the land. If we fail to obey, then we will bear the consequences and pay for it, on earth and in Heaven.
We are obligated to tell it like it is and not water-down the God’s truth and His justice.
