Canefield East squatters taken to court

courtTwo squatters have already been taken to court and more will face similar fates this Friday as government continues efforts to rid Canefield East of those who those who have illegally taken possession of state land.

“Two people were taken to court,” chief physical planner, Kelvin Rolle told DNO. “Now if they do not demolish the buildings, then lands and Surveys Division can demolish the buildings.”

He said more will be taken to court before the end of the week.

“I know some other people will be taken to court on Friday,” he said.

In recent times, the Canefield East area has been the target of numerous squatters, posing a problem to law enforcement officials and the Government.

Notices of Compliance were served to all to demolish buildings that they have constructed on the land.

Allegations are swirling that the squatters were given permission to settle there by a minister of government.

But Rolle pointed out that there is no evidence to back up the allegations.

“There is no minister that has come out and say that he is sending anybody up there and we have heard statements from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Land,” he stated.

I want to find out, who is in charge of fixing the “secondary roads” in Canefield, not the public roads, the roads going to people’s home, there are POT HOLES which look like little pools, when rain is falling there is so much water in it, which is a haven for the mosquitoes, which gives viruses, isn’t there a Minister/Chairman of the Village Council? the Minister and the Prime Minister cannot do everything, the Chairman is useless, why can’t he go and see the roads, especially in 20th Street, the Bus Drivers want to charge extra, because of the roads, everyone is complaining, yet no one does anything, your tyres, shoes everything finishes, tell the CHAIRMAN AND THE MINISTER IN CHARGE, GO TAKE A LOOK AT THE ROADS IN 20TH STREET AND 21ST STREET, I PUT THIS IN BLOCK LETTERS, BECAUSE I AM FED-UP OF THE CRATERS IN THE MIDDLE ROAD, IT IS TIME PEOPLE IN CANEFIELD STRIKE.

So Mr Rolle what are you all doing about the situation in Pointe Michel were people are building both on the road side just before the cemetary and the new housing area without approved plan from planning. Lots assigned to people they do not have any documents for it as yet nor have they paid a $1 as yet but they begin to build and no approved plan from planning. Further what about the guy from planning department who just put up a house for he and his newly wedded wife and child in the new housing area and when confronted by villagers his response is I am Planning. Law for one is law for all. Look into it Planning. This is law less ness

The reason Dominicans have gone accustom to the squatting syndrome is because this government has institutionalise begging and squatting. They reward squatters round the island by selling them prime land at $1.00 a sq foot. Ministers also direct landless party supporters, to go occupy vacant lands with the promise that they will own it.

To top it all, the government brazenly train strong healthy people to come to the notorious “red clinic” every Wednesday to get free handouts, instead of getting them to work. Every Thursday people also get to go to their pal-reps offices to beg for ‘mercies’ as well. Then there is the government own media, GIS which repeatedly broadcast disgraceful footage of recipients of these freebies A propaganda process which is quickly numbing any remaining public resistance to this shameful campaign of mendicancy.

Cure for the dependency syndrome and to boost the confidence & optimism of the citizens of this nation
    1) Close the so-called RED CLINIC and mobilize the welfare division.
    2) Get rid of opportunistic advisers and cronies
    3) Be creative and give birth to real sustainable jobs
    4) Create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs, foreign investments and other new business to be able to thrive
    5) Give priority to the citizens of the state.
    6) Pay better attention to agriculture

I know there are a lot more but these are crucial for our development

AMMMM…did you read that from your social studies book? or your college book on Politics? it easy to read solutions from a book but its another thing to actually turn them into actual deeds..the goverment trying..these squatters are not..

The government don’t need to tell people to pay attention to agriculture..don’t get your loan an invest in your green house.
wait for government to tell you build it…

I hope this process is done for all the squatters who do not comply to move on their own. Because I heard someone saying she and her boyfriend was not served with any notices, and they are squatting. So hope this process applies to all squatters in Canefield East.

It is time for some Dominicans to earn their keep. They have been relying too much on the government and citizens who work hard for a living. This should end soon.

Good for you Kelvin, we can not tolerate lawlessness and mess. Now is the turn of the chairman of Canefield urban council. When are you going to clean up that ugly mess on Donkey beach Sir, so that we all can enjoy that place again. It is really horrible.
