Castle Bruce man fined for malicious damage

Forty-nine-year-old Alphonso Jno Finn of Castle Bruce has been ordered to pay $1327.17 in compensation for destroying the side glass of a bus belonging to Jules Crispin. In default, Jno Finn faces several months in jail.

Jno Finn, who pleaded guilty to the charge of malicious damage before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste yesterday, was also ordered to pay an additional $200 for the installation of the new glass. This, he will pay forthwith or spend four months in prison.

According to the facts of the case presented by the police prosecutor, on December 16, 2009 at about 8:30 pm Special Constable Polydore was on foot patrol on Great George Street in Roseau when he noticed the defendant walking along the street. The defendant retreated to the back of a bus which was parked along the street.

After waiting for some time, Constable Polydore noticed that the defendant did not come out from behind the bus. He reported hearing a loud noise and noticed the glass on the right side of the bus was broken. He then saw the defendant walking away from the bus. After the officer called out to him, the defendant started running away.

When he was subdued, Jno Finn told police, “Officer I don’t know about that.”He was then arrested and taken to the Roseau Police Station. Minutes later, the owner of the bus came to make a report of his broken glass; and when confronted on the matter the defendant said finally, “Yes officer I break the glass officer. I don’t know, some boys that was troubling me.”

Jno Finn was also fined $800 to be paid by April 30, 2010 on the charge of malicious damage.

Jno Finn is from the village of Castle Bruce, but he has been residing in Roseau.
