Andrew Joseph of Giraudel has been sentenced to three months imprisonment after stealing over $60 worth of cheese from Save-a-Lot Grocery Store in Roseau.
Joseph was caught exiting the store with the cheese in his possession without paying a cashier for the items.
According to the theft charge, to which he pleaded guilty, Joseph stole four bars of Sharp Cheddar, two bags of medium cheddar and two bags of mozzarella cheese amounting to $68.24.
According to the facts of the case presented by a police prosecutor before Magistrate Candia George this morning, Joseph was caught by a security guard. The police was later alerted.
“I went in the store, took the cheese and I didn’t have money to pay for it. I was by the counter when I suspect the security officer but before I could back inside they hold me,” Joseph told police after being caught.
“I sorry… I was hungry…” Joseph said in mitigation.
“So much cheese… I thought you were going to make macaroni or pizza… I don’t understand what you were doing with all that cheese,” Magistrate George told Joseph.
“I see you’ve come here for that same offense again. You know what that means, I cannot give you a break,” she stated.
“You on a trend…we want to break that…I’m gonna send you away for some time so you can reflect…,” the magistrate said.
Joseph was sentenced to serve several months in prison last year after being caught stealing from the Auto Trade store in Canefield. He has several theft convictions, according to the court.
