CONFIRMED: ‘Leprechaun’ succumbs to injury

Thomas Paul, aka Leprechaun, the man who was chopped in the head with a cutlass over the weekend in Yampiece, has succumbed to his injury at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Dominica News Online (DNO) visited the hospital at about minutes past 9:00 this morning where members of the family indicated that Paul died at about 7 :00 this morning.

At the time DNO visited, several members of Paul’s family were seen huddled together at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with his sister, identified as ‘Joan’ crying, as friends, relatives, hospital security and staff showed their sympathies.

Peterson Charles of Tarish Pit, who was charged with attempted murder, may be charged with murder seeing that the victim has died.

It is alleged that the dispute stemmed from 50 cents from gambling.

DNO will provide you with more details later when we speak to the family.

I extend condolences to his family in this time of grief. He is from my village and I feel very sad the way this happened. Regardless of how bad a man is, we are nobody to judge him or decide what type of punishment he should receive. Only God can determine that. Whatever the problem was, there was no need for all this. The other man could simly walk away. I hope at this moment the man who killed him is pondering and considering asking God for forgiveness so that he can enter Gods kingdom.Even if he is a killer we are in no position to judge him still. May God bless him and may the soul of Thomas rest in peace. He will be missed. And to all dominicans let us look and what is happening and focus on the future to make it better and stop criticizing and talking all kinds of nonsense.

People of Dominica lets start to think about how the crime rate originated to be so so high for the past 5 years. Firstly we should blame the elite and also the parent of the youth these days, they set no example for no one in the country these day. Whenever people leave their houses all they are hearing in this country is about corruption when will it come to an end. Secondly i think that the country has become so hard that 50 cent don’t worth a shit but yet we find grown ass people expressing their childish behavior over 50 cent which resulted in someone going to the cemetery and the other going to the penitentiary. when will the violence stop among young people specially specifying young men, we need these young men to be the head to stop violence and to take their rightful position in society. Anyways I would like to express my condolences to the deceased family and for that perpetrator you should anticipate the outcome of that conflict before taking your own actions. But not trying to be bias i heard it was kind of self defense but anyways we will see the outcome of this.

I am moved by your comments and grief. The loss of a loved one is difficult to bear. A void is felt in your heart, knowing that you will never see him again in this life. I have lost loved ones by natural causes and I know how it feels. Every Dominican, young, old or older should be of likewise mind.
People have lost loved ones in the past and sooner or later will lose other loved ones, no matter what the circumstances, until we ourselves pass on. As human beings we should be ever compassionate and not judge. Sadly, some do not practice acts of love, compassion and mercy.
I have noted by the writings of some Dominicans on this Website, they are too negative. It is easy to tell who truly possesses a loving, compassionate, merciful, kind and forgiving heart. Their words give them away. They will, one day, pay for their words as imbedded in their mind and heart. They will not escape. Their day will come.
I recall this statement since I was a child and one which I repeat frequently: “There but for the grace of God go I.” Another reason why we should always be compassionate for we know not what the future holds for us. God is not amused by those who lack compassion.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said: “Judge not that you may not be judged accordingly and two-fold.” He has also taught us to be perfect and merciful as His (Our) Heavenly Father is.
Try your best not to pay attention to what they write. You bless them and this is a good sign of your love, knowledge and practice of your faith.
Our Lord also said: “Vengeance is Mine! I will repay!” In time, he will deal with them according to their words and deeds.
There are those who act as if they will live without any problems and obstacles; that nothing will happen to them and that they will live forever. Their words depict that they are ignorant and lack mortal and spiritual enlightenment. God is listening to them and taking note.
Your brother was a child of God while on earth and is still a child of God. God knew him more than anyone else. The manner in which God saw him is not the manner in which human beings see him.
If you are a Catholic Christian as I am you will comprehend, more so, God’s compassion, mercy and forgiveness. God knows our weaknesses and negligence which no one is immune from one way or the other.
Consider that there are always two sides to people. God knows what we are up against in this world, His enemy and the enemy of our souls. God weighs the good and bad deeds separately. If the good ones outweigh the bad, rest assured that your brother is saved.
While on earth your brother loved. He loved his family and friends and no doubt did some loving acts. Those good deeds are not lost in the sight of God. This is something these earthly critics and judges are not aware of.
There are some people who do not comprehend this. I will state again, if you are a Catholic Christian, you will comprehend what I have stated and the meaning of this.
If you are a Catholic, please talk to the parish Priest. He represents Our Lord Jesus Christ on earth in His Church and he will surely provide you with additional spiritual information, guidance and consolation.
I visualize that the finality of it all at the gravesite when you lay your beloved one to rest will also not be an easy one for all of you.
Take consolation in what Our Lord said: “He came for the sinners” which each one of us are, in some way for all have fallen short of God’s glory. He also said that “Those who believe in Him will not be put to shame.” And, “I will never forget you My People. I have carved you in the palm of My hand…” God is always present and more prominently at a time like this. Your sorrow is His sorrow.
I am praying for you and your family. God is with all of you. He sees the hurt, pain and your grief over the loss of your loved one. Take heart and strength in God. God bless all of you.

Since the victim died because of wombs inflicted by the perpetrator, without a doubt he will be tried for murder.
The sad part is as the saying: “Dead men tell no tales.” He may say that he was provoked and it was in self defense.
It is shocking to read that a man was chopped up and lost his life because of an argument over 50 cents? Surely, a life is precious and is worth much more than 50 cents.
What type of personality and characteristic trait does such a person possess to injure another to the point of him dying from cutlass wombs and bad enough over 50 cents?
What can anyone purchase for 50 cents in Dominica? I live in a different part of the world and I am thinking what could I purchase for 50 cents? I can’t think of any; absolutely nothing except to pay sales tax on something which I purchased.
Only tonight I had a conversation with someone about sales tax and employment tax. In bygone years we paid tax on items purchased over $1.00. Today, we pay tax on 10 cents. Now, it has crossed my mind but it is not a purchase. If per chance I use a store photocopier and the cost is ten cents, I have to pay “a cent” tax if not two cents. Just imagine that. Even then I would not harm someone for any amount of money.
The government will have to deem cutlasses dangerous weapons. They appear to be no different than guns or knives. This includes a hammer – just thought of it.
This is not the first time I have read or that readers have read about those cutlass incidents, cutting a man’s hand off, etc. It is sad and upsetting.
My condolence to the family of the departed. I pray that God had mercy on his soul. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!
Having stated that this is another reason why everyone must escalate their prayers as they practice the faith with a humble and contrite heart to God for Dominica, its nationals and specifically the youths. We are to pray for the entire world and people of the world.
I have stated this previously, a daily prayer which we Christians should pray as often as we possibly could: “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus once in agony have pity on the dying.”
Losing a loved one is no easy matter and the manner in which he died and the reason why he died. This should never have happened. It makes me so sad to think of it.
God be with the relatives of the departed and surround them with His love as they mourn the loss of their loved one.

what is wrong with our people, is there a curst cloud hanging over my sweet Dominica.
let us pray and ask God to take control we are too small of a population of people to be killing each other every order day. People let us rise and change our evil ways. Am a Dominicain leaving away an it’s indeed a shame to see the destruction of my country which I once was proud to invite friends to visit or people along my line of work which i have the pleasure to advertise Dominica to.Let us all take a stand “yes we can do it”

How much is your body worth? $4.50
According to the U.S. Bureau of Chemistry and Soils, the chemical and mineral composition of the average human body breaks down as follows:

    65% Oxygen
    18% Carbon
    10% Hydrogen
    3% Nitrogen
    1.5% Calcium
    1% Phosphorous
    0.35% Potassium
    0.25% Sulfur
    0.15% Sodium
    0.15% Chlorine
    0.05% Magnesium
    0.0004% Iron
    0.00004% Iodine
Additionally, our bodies contain trace quantities of copper, zinc, fluorine, silicon, manganese, aluminum, and arsenic. Those amounts of elements total less than one dollar.

However, the average person owns approximately 14 to 18 square feet of skin. If you base the skin’s value on the selling price of cowhide, which is about $0.25 per square foot, the value of an average person’s skin is a whopping $3.50!

we ar not worth alot. WE ARE WORTH EVERYTHING WHEN WE HAVETHE LORD AS OUR PERSOAL SAIVOUR, YOU ARE WORTH WHO OWNS YOU.

      To Principles

Your observation is one the reasons Jesus warned us with words like: “Unless a man eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood he will have no Life in him”. Again He said: “It is the Spirit that gives Life, the words that I speak are Spirit and they are Life. The flesh surfeits nothing!” John 6 It is also the reason He told Nicodemus “unless a man is “born again” he cannot see the Kingdom of God”. For “that which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is Spirit”. John 3 That warning is for all of us, human beings, as well.

The apostle Paul tells us: “Do not be conformed to the things of the world, but be stransformed by the renewing of your mind” People fail to understand that Life is the stature of Love, and Love is the stature of Jesus’ Spiritual body–Christ who lives in Him. We must have the mind of Jesus, that we might demonstrate Love–the functions of Life in us. Who can use a cutlass on another person’s head, by his conducts of Love? No one!

The physical body will pass away into the dust that it was formed from, but the mind continues to live on, regardless of its state. We should all desire to allow the renewing of our minds, which will process and produce the functions of Love–Life, as controlled through conscience, the home of God’s Holy Spirit. Who can think of contending a gamble of .50 cents, through the mind of the Spirit? No one!

Yes, when we belong to God Almighty, by faith in Jesus Christ, we are worth much more than the largest piece of diamond or precious stone in this world. And that worth continues to grow in Eternity in the stature of Faith, Hope, and Love. With that kind of assurance, nothing is more important to us than the desire to maintain Life, by faith, and the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit, in Jesus Christ.

Though this is sad. There is more to the story as it pertains to this Leprechaun guy. From what I was told by many in the area who knows him, is that he was a real menace to that society. He was a crack head who terrorized everyone and was always quick to pull out his cutlass and call the police looking for court case. The fact that his cutlass was used on him is an indication that something he attempted went wrong.

He was always threatening someone with that same cutlass. He just might be in a much better place now.

    RIP

    • Anonymous
      December 17, 2010

Being a menace to society does not constitute that someone else should take his life because of his aggrovated behavior. The only person or spirit that should judge some one based on their shortcomings is GOD, he gave us life and he should be the one to take it away and NOT individuals. If he had to be punished for his behavior, the almighty would have dealt with him accordingly. What message are you sending to people when you make such comments, that one should put an end to someone life because they are a menace to society? If everyone has to adopt that mentality, then the crime rate in this country has just begun and this is NOT the solution to situations like these.

      • smartone

I quite agree. No one has the right to take anyone’s life. There are plenty other menance in our socity should everyone just take a cutlas or gun or what have you and just kill them? what kind of society are you building. Shame on you. By the way I know this man personally and this is not true. He is just like any other young man who is not very well educated and does not have the skills to solve problems but he is not a murderer. He is also a father to little girl (his only child) and this is extremely for his family and those of us who grow up with him.

thats allu illusion again believin God to be only in the spirit and not flesh.yes he was a human but if he was a man of wrong den he is satan in flesh and now he get a judgement dats just how it goes.im not condoning violence byy da way,but im sayin it cud be the wrath of the creator dat smite him dere if he was a troublemaker.so we ought not to rejoice in another hurt but the reality iis judgement is reaaal and wen the wicked fall the righteous is glad(proverbs say so,not me).but it is sad to see man dyin ova such petty tings in da land but now ppl can walk da streets n doh feel threatened by a man dat walkin round with a lass possibly threatenin innocent ppl for noting mayb.but if dis man was innocent den dats very bad!

Even if he was a menace. he was a human being. So the young boy who chopped him in his head had a right to walk away. he was saw leprechaun lifeless after all the blows he and lil bro and partner gave leprechaun, he came back and just chop him in his head.

He have children. Let’s not be bias, leprechaun was SOMEBODY.
