Director of Crime Stoppers Dominica, Stewart Paris has revealed statistics show that 1,000 calls, with 90 tips, have been registered by the company since its inauguration in 2012.
He said at a ‘United Against Crime’ press conference on Wednesday that because of the calls, 20 arrests have been made, adding that the program works.
“It really works,” he noted. “What is more important is out of those 1,000 calls, the 90 tips and the 20 arrests, privacy of no caller was ever compromised, nobody knows who makes the call.”
He stated that all that is needed from a caller is information and nothing more.
“All they need from you is the information,” Paris explained. “So you give the information to the Call Centre in Canada, to the person answering the telephone and they take the information and they don’t know who is giving them the information. That information is then relayed to the relevant police personnel at Police Headquarters in Dominica. You may wonder if it works but it does work.”
Meantime Paris stated that the business of fighting crime is a problem that can only be solved when all members of the community get involved in the process to deal with the issue.
“At Crime Stoppers it is our view that no crime is committed without somebody in the community knowing about it, somebody other than the criminal knows about the crime,” he indicated. “We believe that no criminal can exist in isolation. He must sleep somewhere, he eats somewhere, he hang out somewhere, and people know him.”
According to him the criminals need to be exposed.
“By speaking up we can save lives, we can save our communities, we can save our heritage, we can save our culture and we can save our country, but if we keep our mouth shut we will lose all that,” he stated.
Paris encouraged persons to call the number Crime Stoppers number at 1-800-8477 to report any criminal activity they may be aware of.
Dominicans deserve what they get. They are retarded. I might be wrong but sometimes I get the impression that people of the other Caribbean islands are so much more advanced mentally than Dominicans??????
I have a problem with ratio .
Who want to open their mouth snd snitch on people that is them, but I will not even though I witness any crime I will make a cross on my lips, in this day and age it is better to keep one mouth shut, don’t trust crime stoppers and don’t trust the police in dominica, I will not risk my life and that of my relatives to snitch on no one, no way, police themselves are part and parcel of crime on the island for which as soon as you file a report on a police in dominica they are being told by their bosses who did the report, I experienced it, to a point where the officer met me asked me if I know who he is, I replied yes, then he told me to watch my mouth, I told my relatives what happened, since then I do not trust police
You are wrong. This is a bad, ignorant attitude. Then never, ever complain especially on this Website.
Do you think you are in the world solely for yourself? Some of you do not know we are each others’ keepers. We have an obligation to society and yes, to avert crimes and save lives for the safety of Dominica. We must help each other. This is primarily a mandate from God.
As it is stated, “All it takes for evil to flourish is for good people (or those who call themselves good or think as such) refuse to do nothing.
You have the opportunity to report crimes and to remain incognito. If you have seen and know and fail to do, God will hold you accountable.
You could cause much evil to escalate and will eventually bear the consequences.
Mr. Paris, I am sure that in your heart you know that all that talk is just pure §#**+ ……working what? Cokes man getting bailed out just like that, child screwer escaping with POLICE help, etc etc…so even though a UFO (silver grass) calls Canada and reports, in the end NOTHING HAPPENS. But, you have a job to do, so do it before you get the axe. Peace.
Thank you Mr. Paris for the good job you are doing for love of country
Maybe you will be more appreciated in the future.
Ok Mr. Paris or Mr. France whatever your name is. I’m happy for your progress but keep in mind that as the police and whatever other powers that be are in search of new ways to crack down on criminals, the criminals themselves keep on getting more creative. And with the limited budget that the higher ups are providing the police department and other crime stopping agencies with, I doubt you all will ever truly get to the level where you want to be. I have a tip for you Mr. Paris. Please make a move into investigating the corrupt police department we have in Dominica. I’ve been hearing stories that they don’t want to prosecute those who have done wrong within their ranks. This is listed as criminal activity too.
Thanks for publishing this. We should all come on board, especially in a small country like ours where we are normally very reluctant to report directly to the police. Here you can call without fear of victimisation or reprisal.
“It really works,” he noted. “What is more important is out of those 1,000 calls, the 90 tips and the 20 arrests, privacy of no caller was ever compromised, nobody knows who makes the call.” NO BODY KNOWS WHO MADE THE CALL? MUST BE SOME UFO MADE IT.
It simply means that the you do not have to identify yourself….I’m hoping you were being sarcastic.
Bear in mind, that, if the suspect vehemently denies being the one involved in the “crime,” then the caller will have to be contacted by the police department to show proof. So don’t give the business about “confidentiality.” OK?
lets go snitching
Yes, when it comes to crime I agree, let’s inform the authorities. Too much is being swept under the carpet because of fear or a misplaced sense of loyalty.
