Director of Crime Stoppers Dominica (CSD), Stewart Paris, is reporting “some level of success” as over 1,000 calls have been made by Dominicans to report crime for the period 2012 to 2015.

“Although we are still a fledging organization, we’re still trying to get our rhythm … we can report some level of success,” he said earlier this week.

He stated from the phone calls made, there have been 15 successful arrests and prosecution.

Paris is encouraging the public to continue supporting the initiative.

“We need to get criminals off the street in Dominica for the sake of our children, our wives, our fathers, our mothers, our relatives and our neighbors…” he said.

CSD encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy, the organization said.

Persons who have witnessed a crime or any criminal activity and who don’t want to talk directly to the police can either call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS (1-800-8477) or 1-800-HINT (1-800-4468) or log in to Crime Stoppers website to submit a complaint.

The organization said all calls and website complaints are answered by a Canadian-based call center. It is a community based, non-profit organization spearheaded and funded by the private sector aimed at solving and preventing crime, has been launched in Dominica.

It was incorporated under the laws of Dominica on September 12, 2012 and has been accepted by the police as a valid and effective investigative tool.

Wait here..As fast as the police arrest the criminals,is as fast as they are back out on the streets. And it’s either the courts grant them bail, it dose not matter the severity of the crime or the appeal’s court overturn their punishment that was handed down to them by the local judge.
Are you’ll really stopping crime since your statistic gap is so wide. 2012- 2015???

I have a few wishes that all D/cans get along, live happily and peaceful with one another and that there be no crimes and no criminals so that all could live in harmony and safety.
We do know if criminals think they can get away with committing their crimes, God knows who they are and have their record. The day will come when they will pay for their crimes and in a worst manner.

what about garbage disposal, public disturbances, traffic violations, etc? the police here don’t seem to respond to those sort of crimes, when they’re reported one is taken for a joker and laughed at! plus the police has an overly aggressive approach towards the citizens, i think everyone should be tried equally regardless of economic level, social stratus, colour or origin. we would like a forum to deal with those matters.

Maybe some people have called in to report crime, however, the are VERY few crimes that are solved and the criminals really brought to justice. Stolen property is hardly ever recovered.
