CSD speaks out on suspected arson; offers reward for information

CrimeStoppersCorrectSizeCrime Stoppers Dominica (CSD) expresses grave concern over the possibility that the fire which occurred on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 close to the Douglas-Charles Airport, destroying a communications tower housing major airport equipment, might have been a case of arson.

Dominica is a peace-loving country with law-abiding citizens and if this is what it appears to be on the surface, CSD strongly condemns it and any such action to the extent that a reward of EC$5,000 is being offered to anyone who has information about the fire that leads to an arrest.

Someone out there knows something about what may have started this fire and we encourage the person or persons to speak up to preserve the sanctity of our sovereign nation, as an attack on a country’s communications systems is an attack on the country itself!

We wish to recognize the fact that investigations are still underway so that nothing is yet conclusive but arson is suspected by the authorities at this time and the time to act is, therefore, now! Please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or submit a tip online at www.crimestoppersdominica.org if you have any information about this incident.

Crime Stoppers Dominica was launched in April 2013 and focuses on getting the public to take action to keep families and communities safe. All information provided is strictly confidential. Calls from all cell phones and landlines are absolutely free and no names are required. Calls and online tips are handled by a Call Centre based in Canada and there is no Caller ID. Callers receive only a number in the event that the information pans out and a reward is to be collected. Crime Stoppers is not interested in individuals, only information!

Crime stoppers has every right to add it’s voice to this situation. Crime stoppers just have to make sure that they are consistent and that they do not serve the purpose and agendas of unscrupulus individuals and organizations at any time.
however, the airport fire situation is still under investigation and I believe that Mr. Badouile, the prime minister, crime stoppers and the rest of us should await the findings of the official investigation before we hasten to draw conclusions that will later embarrass us.
Mr. Badoille says that the fire is a case of suspected arson. I understand arson to mean when someone deliberately sets fire to someone else’s property.
But can I ask Mr. Badouille some questions. (1) Was the fence at the premises broken, (2) was the locks on the building tampered with (3) were the doors and windows vandalized (4) was there any breach in the wall of the building (5) was the roof compromised ?
If the answer to the following questions is no and Mr. Badouille still suspects arson, the answer is clear. Mr. Badouille’s authorised personel with the key to the premises open the fence gate, enters the premises, open the building, enters the building, sets the fire, lock the building back and leave. If Mr. Badouille is so convinced that it is arson then he does not have far to look it is clearly an inside job. Mr. Badouille need to investigate his internal security and his and authorised personel to find the answer or maybe he should ask prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit to tell the police what he know about the fire since he declared publicly that he know who did it and his supporters also know. By now also the commissioner of police should have already called in Mr. Skerrit for questioning.

Isn’t DNO and other news outlets in Dominica concerned that a picture of the destroyed tower has not been made available to them.

REALLY!!! A toll-free telephone number or freephone number is a telephone number that is billed for all arriving calls instead of incurring charges to the originating telephone subscriber. For the calling party, a call to a toll-free number from a landline is free of charge. Dom-AZZZZZ!!!

If after the investigation it is determined that it was a case of Arson, then that would be a real shame and a disgrace for our country. Inciting people to gather at the airport is not a good move – it only breeds hatred towards returning Dominicans .

Boy we have really gone round the bend!

The airport’s communication equipment is burnt in exceedingly suspicious circumstances at the same time that calls were being made for mobs of people to descend on the airport to protect our democracy from overseas voters coming in to vote. From my understanding of the information given by officials, that equipment serves the Air Traffic controllers in guiding the safe landing of aircrafts through communication with the flight crew. This , to my further understanding means that without that communication, any aircraft, be it ones carrying alleged overseas voters, Dominicans joining their families for christmas; business people coming in to do business; tourists on vacation etc. would be in danger. I am taking it further to also mean that were there to be an emergency and someone had to be flown out, the aircraft taking off would also be at risk without communication equipment.

The implication also would be that the officials would have had to close the airport to the detriment of our citizens, visitors and our economy if there was no back-up as they say there is and political affiliation is more important to you people than the this and you are posting these comments and others on other news items, basically attacking crime stoppers, the Police and other officials?

Boy, am I glad not to be part of that mob! All who want to join are free to do so, I will maintain my position of distance as I watch events continue to unfold.

Very suspicious indeed. But who would it hurt most? If its the opposition were the ones who did. that would have been the most stupid move ever in the history of politics. Ask yourself a question, who is to benefit the most from such a dumb action? Who was on their pulpit bragging?

There was no MOB at the airport and massive security procedures were in place. We still have no idea of the of the location of this building?
Will the investigation reveal the true extent of the damage and to what equipment it entailed

Stop your hypocritical discuss. If all what you are saying is true why would Seaborne still be landing? Why would they risk their lives? And why dont you ask the DLP, they say they know.

From now on, I will always be looking forward to a post of yours to understand, more clearly, what the situation in our Dominica pertaining to the attitude and conduct of our people–whatever it is based on–not just politics

“We wish to recognize the fact that the investigations are still underway so that nothing is yet conclusive but arson is suspected.” If this is the case , why the insinuation by Skeritt. He said both himself and his DLP supporters should know who started the fire. Crime Stoppers have offered $5000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who has information, therefore, Skeritt should immediately contact Crime Stoppers. If his information is credible and he doesn’t need the money, he should give it to the Dominica Infirmary. I am sure the Infirmary would be grateful for the money.

    Dear CSD,
The FIRST person to give information has to be the leader of the DLP as he said – and it is on record – that he knows and the crowd at the gathering also does WHO are responsible for the alleged fire. Check him out. Enough of this hypocricy! My grand mother always insisted that we should “NEVER play smart with stupidness.”

    • The Facts
      December 5, 2014

Do you think that Crime Stoppers is interested in what occurred prior to launching in Dominica?
What happened to the man who was arrested, the one who returned from the US? What about the Shillingford man, the one who was in prison, was released and was in the hospital, who implicated himself, who said he was paid to set the fire but was not paid the amount promised so he spilled the beans. No one knows if what he stated is true.
Know that there are some cases that are solved and others are not solved. This is worldwide. Most of all, God knows who did it and how many people were involved. If it is not solved, leave it in the hands of God and cease worrying about it and consistently bringing it up when commenting to articles which have no bearing on it.
