Dominican deported from Antigua

The High Court in Antigua

Alickson John-Lewis, a Dominican national, has been deported to his country of birth.

John-Lewis appeared in the High Court before Justice Richard Floyd for sentencing on a charge of armed robbery. He was found guilty by a 12-member jury on February 9.

Floyd told John-Lewis that he would be removed from the country immediately or as soon as is practicable. Floyd said that nothing would be served to further incarcerate John-Lewis, who has spent 18 months in prison awaiting his trial.

He said taxpayers would be saved the burden of feeding the Dominican man for the next several years.

Hi, I hope the Dominica Police Department keep a file on this criminal and have him report to his local Precinct/Station once a week. They must also warn him that if he is caught committing any crime he will face a stiffer sentence because he is a career criminal.

way Papa, more deportees to bring more drugs, crime and violence to our crime-ridden country… If only they were coming home to make a positive contribution to Dominica (but if they can’t survive out there, it is most likely they won’t survive in Dominica)… Please pray for Dominican young men everywhere!

    ALL CRIME IS CRIME.

Reading some of this comments especially those by persons who knew boxy saddens me. Everyone knows boxy was troublesome and had a history of fighting. However prior moving to Antigua he had no history of robbery or even allegation of robbery casted over him.

Thus , it’s evident that there exist some hope for change. I know boxhead personally( actually my first cousin ) and with the right company around he would not entertained such behavior.

One way that we could help that change is to stop stereotyping the youg man. If everyone seems to write him off , that might just cause him to giveup on life and continue the bad habbit.
I never thought that yak would stop parro, Doctrove would stop parro and even today almost complete his house( wall house to that) or even my mother in Law cube would stop parro. Those are just examples that there is hope and it still takes a community to build not just a child but a person.

Moreover, we need not single out boxyhead or any other persom ,when most of us in posie is guilty of haboring crime. Almost everyone in posie have a friend who either sells drugs , smuggle people, embezzle state/ community funds , evade taxes etc. Thats why i say all crime is crime but i guess when its committed by one from the lower class everyone speaks out.

i don’t leave in dominica but if i want to buy crack or cock i know exactly where to go and which block or house to go and all of us in posie including the police knows where. My question is what are we doing about that .

There are known individuals including politician with no inheritance , no business and their wealth has surpass their life time earning. What are we doing about that.( keeping our mouth shut)

Some of us on DNO got government shcolarship never return to work in Dominica and has failed to repay the state. what are we saying about about that.
We had borbol in gabbage bin, fertilizer etc and what happen.

Being bankrupt one year and next year apartments cominig down like when u get that perfect domino hand ( 7 pieces of six). posie people don’t speak on this topic in public .why!.

various groups and commitee soliciting funds on behalf of the commitee no reporting on how funds were spend , profits , never produce or publish any finacial statement. no AGM , No body voting for president , no one know who is treasurer and if so are that person competent enough to be trasurer, no secretary, nothing , etc ( no transparency , accountability). But recieves money and other ponsorship in kind from stakeholders on our behalf.

Every group/ team/ association whatever they call themselves in posie u ask what are they going to do with funds earned , the first thing come out their mouth is to give members loan if they have financial difficulties. Hmm! No one else smells a rat besided me.

The public has not yet been told how many passport were sold by the sate , how much the governmnet earned from these sales and what was done with the funds. i wonder why.

There are so much criminal and questionable activity around us but we pretend to be blind ,say nuttin unless if the person in question is off a similar social stratum like boxy.
I still mentains that all crime IS crime. Stealing with gun or without gun is the same thing.

Niocha and jael i see that you all haven’t given up on your brother boxy and that is very good.

    Recommendation

we need to practice rehabilating individuals while they are being punish.

        @ shyte

Did you not read what DNO posted? Allow him this liberty to write. He has as much right as you do. Furthermore DNO allowed it. People decide to write and I am certain that it is not their intention to make the writing long. It so happened. I can vouch for that. Dictator, it is not your business and place to criticize his writing or the length. If you do not want to read it, simply ignore it. Are you not a fellow Dominican? Then be loving, kind, broadminded and considerate. You need to learn these virtues.

Please verify that boxy was convicted for robery in Dominica?

i am aware of fighting and a marijuana offence. And in antigua a charge for recieving stolen goods beore the latest incidence.

i am not trying to defend boxy but to say he have a track record for robery in dominica ( especially coming from an excop) is misleading or perhaps i am just not aware of this one .

when all these bad eggs come back to Dominica what will happen is that they will carry on with the same behaviour they had in the foreign land. I hope he is treated as a criminal back home and he gets to report to the Police station every two days to give account of his whereabouts. It’s such a shame that a picture of him wasn’t published as people can change their name! Shame shame that we have an influx of these criminals in our country who are no doubt responsible for the substantial increase of crime that we are having.. We need to do away with these criminals! Put them to sleep so we can protect our country

    March 13, 2012

It is not the first time a Dominican national is deported to Dominica. I visualize that when they return they will be angry and will try to flee.
Recall last year (?) one of them who was deported from Guadeloupe once he landed, he commenced running. I also heard that prior to that another one evaded the Police in a similar manner and was later found dead in the water.
What are the Dominica regulations when a deportee arrives? I hope that the Antigua Police will escort him to Dominica and when he lands hand him over to the DA Police who, in turn will take the necessary steps to document him, interrogate him and fingerprint him. The Police should also be given his DA address and inform him to report to the Police Station be it once a week. He really should be under surveillance.
Is there a government department which could assist them to assimilate in society after they return to DA? They should not be left to themselves. This is when they get into further trouble and create havoc on the island.
The Police department should have some expertise on how to handle them when they arrive. I hope something is done for this man and others who will be deported. They have gone astray and do need help that, hopefully they will become a model national. May God assist them.

It is so simple not rocket science. Any deportee for crimes committed and found guilty in another country who get deported. The police Immediately tag them when they enter Dominica as they do in the UK!! Take their photograph and finger prints and make them report to the Police station every two weeks that way the police know their movements and location. Please don’t tell me this is not already in place!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Peeping Tom
      March 13, 2012

nature girl, not everything that happens in the “UK” is proper, correct, or even legal under international law.

At what point does the condemned hear the words “time served.” You have paid the fine. Go on with your life^

Justice is blind, nature girl. It serves the victim and the accused. It does not discriminate.

      • Duncekyat
        March 13, 2012

        @Peeping Tom

If “time served” equates to rehabilitation, then it’s all well and good. But you know quite well that this is not a valid equation. I believe society has the right to distrust the convicted pedophile, rapist, thief, etc when that person gets out of jail. The convict lost society’s trust currency with his actions. We can’t simply say “you’ve done your time, now welcome back”. Hell no!! That trust currency must be re-earned upon re-entry into society. Once bitten, twice shy! I say monitor, monitor, monitor until such time that society is satisfied with his rehabilitation.

      • Peeping Tom
        March 14, 2012

Oh, Duncekyat, it is natural to “distrust.” However, what is largely suggested here is not to eye someone suspiciously but the institutionalized suppression of someone’s rights.

Once the condemned serves his time, he is legally free except, of course, if the court suggests certain conditionalities of his release; and, in such a case, “time” is not uet served. However, once the individual has completed his debt to society, the State cannot be asked to imprison the former convict for an unknown offence. This would be wrong.

It is a grave problem. If they are deported to Dominica, where else can they go? They must return to DA. Last year I had stated that the government should establish a department to assist them and rehabilitate them. They may be bad people but they may not be beyond rehabilitation. You know, bad company corrupts. I have high hopes. The government should at least try to help them and not leave them to fend for themselves in mainstream DA and to do their own thing. They are liable to get into trouble.

      Is that So!

He went to Antigua to hopefully do better and he got into bad company.
Our problem is that we must pray and some of us more for those people, worship, prayer, penance, sacrifice and observation of God’s Laws and the teachings of The Church.
People of the world become worst because others fail to do nothing or very little and even to pray for them. Obviously these criminals do not as much as pray for themselves. They are too young to be criminals. Sadly, every country has them. Dominica and the Caribbean for that matter are not alone. I surely wished that there would be no criminals in the world for they are a menace to society.
