ST. THOMAS — Richie Fontaine, who was convicted March 15 by a V.I. Superior Court jury of robbing Edger Francis at gunpoint Aug. 14 then shooting him was sentenced Tuesday to serve 15 years in prison.

Jurors took just about three hours — after listening to a day of testimony — to find Fontaine, 21, guilty of first-degree robbery, unauthorized use a firearm during the commission of a first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, unauthorized use of a firearm during the commission of a second-degree robbery, first-degree assault and unauthorized use of a firearm during the commission of a first-degree assault.

Alot of Dominican lazy ones think people owe them something, that’s y they are so envious and jealous of other people’s prosperity. They go to places like Guadeloupe and things like jewellery they never could afford to wear they choose to hold up people or break open jewellery stores and back to Dominica saying they’re blinging. These fools need to be dealt with seriously.

Concerning the Dominicans who leave their beautiful Island and go commit crimes. Be it in St.Thomas, BVI, Miami, New York, Tortola, St.Croix shame on them. They had an opportunity to make something worhtwhile with their life and for some reason they have chosen a path of destruction. Just imagine a young man spending all of his youthful life behind bars ; what a waste: According to their immigration status after serving their time they could be deported and become D/A problem.

Law enforcement in D/A should take note of these criminals that return; when they left D/A they were not criminals, returning the people should be informed of their criminal acts.

What part of Dominica is the … from ? Can someone give that information?

  5. May 17, 2010

15 years is not all he’s going to get… This man is still waiting sentencing on other crimes that he has already been found guilty of. So with the 15 years he will be getting more years. By the time he comes out of jail he should be in his sixty. What a waste of human life… Brother if they send you to the U.S. mainland to serve your time just make sure that you don’t drop the soap. you will be balling for murder…

According to Mr. Foutaine, he was having a hard time finding employment in St Thomas because he did not speak the language. To my knowledge Dominica and St Thomas speaks the same language with different accents. What a poor excuse this young man brought to the Court.

This is not all, he is still awaiting sentencing for other crimes that he has committed.. I feel sorry for the poor mothers, this is happen to often, mothers are holding their heads and bellys and balling because their sons are going to prison or they are killed because of gun violence.

The boy brings shame to our beloved Dominica… He had no good intentions since he migrated to St Thomas.

    • You see; for a Dominican there must always be an excuse why one commits a crime. Because this criminal had a hard time finding a job, does that give him the right to steal?

Does that give him the right to terrorize a person with a gun, in the commission of a crime?

I am sorry that they did not impose the maximum forty (40) years, on him so that when he gets out he would be of little use to himself, so that he could suffer for the rest of his life.

In any event, he has fifteen (15) years of his life to think about what he has done. This should be an example for the all the thieves, vagabonds, and scamps in Dominica, at least some may come to the understanding that the crap they do in Dominica, and then some chicken heart judges, and magistrates, smiles in their faces, and then set them loose on society to commit more crimes does not work like that outside of Dominica.

I am looking forward to see the one who raped the children in BVI get 80 years, and the drug dealer, I want him to get live. I understand the attorney general in the BVI is a relative of mine, I wish she would recommend the life sentence on this guy!

Another bite the dust..yeah…Sad but the up side to this story is he wouldn’t be spending his prison term in Dominica …YEAHHHH…. If only Dominica judicial system was as stern like St Thomas judicial system I can imagine it now Dominica would return to it’s utopia self..One day Dominica, One day…

So Why isn’t St. Thomas Utopia if the laws are so strict?

        May 17, 2010

Bcuz you cannot compare St Thomas and Dominica when it come to crime…stupes.. Dominica crime levels have been low historically but since the judicial system been lapsing on putting criminals in jail this have thrown the country off… Once the judicial system in Dominica get serious and start handing down some serious sentences I promise the criminal atmosphere in country going to change rapidly..hence utopia…

As a Dominican I felt very disheartened when i read the news about this guy who migrated few years
to St Thomas who was involved in these henious crime. According to the news it appears that all this
guy was commiting serious crimes .Also another one was arrested yesterday charged
with murder and other serious crimes. We need to know our purpose when we leave our country
is to better ourselves…Nonetheless there are many Dominicans doing very well so i I believe
those who commit these crimes is not a reflection of all Dominicans resing in the V.I
