UPDATE: Dominican sentenced to 14 years in Texas

arrestedA man, who US law enforcement said is from Dominica, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sending guns bought in Texas to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Tyrone Reid, 22, was sentenced in Houston on Wednesday by a federal judge. Investigators said Reid is a citizen of Dominica who’s been living in Houston.

US District Judge, David Hittner, ordered Reid be immediately deported following completion of his prison sentence.

Media reports indicate that a jury in February convicted Reid of a conspiracy-related firearms count and two charges of making false statements to a firearms dealer.

According to prosecutors in the case, Reid was associated with drug traffickers and arranged for guns to be purchased in Houston and sent to the Virgin Islands.

Some weapons recovered at a home in the Virgin Islands were linked to more than $60,000 wired to Reid to help buy the weapons, according to investigators.

Two firearms associated with the conspiracy were found in New Jersey crime scenes, including an aggravated armed robbery, the US Attorney Office of the Southern District of Texas stated.

Reid’s grandmother traveled to Houston for the trial and testified that Reid sent guns to her in the Virgin Islands. Reid then took the stand on his own behalf and called his grandmother a liar.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Homeland Security.

More than 30 firearms were identified in the weapons conspiracy.

Why did you erease my post? Is there too much details about crimes committed by Dominicans in Guadeloupe ? Thrue is hurting, but it’s stay the true. Let’s Dominicans have their personnal idea about my comments, don’t presume about whether they could be choc or not… I’a Guadloupeen and I tell about my everyday experience with Dominicans people… I lived in a area with this community…I don’t make the apologie of hate, it’s a reality most of them, who came in criminal bizness have nothing to loose about french citizen, what they care about is money and how to make more, and it’s thrue that we can’t take it anymore, to much crimes, robery, drogs, violence, they benefit of taxes money, but in return it’s a hell with them, so that’s why I say, this can goes no longer and it’s time to think differently.

How long this will continue. All over the world Dominicans are massively involved in crime. It’s a way of life. What about éducation at home, even you don’t reveived it at school? What’s about mother and father? In Guadeloupe, Dominicans and Haîtiens are make children for alows money and papers, and then they let them in the street, for drug money… In Guadeloupe you can go to school, get an éducation for free… BUT THEY ARE MASSELY NOT INTERESTED IN THAT WAY OF LIFE. Violence, murder, dealing, prostitution, stay first choice, because they want to be rich, and can wait for that… Guadeloupeans are fed up with that. They don’t want any friendly relationship with them, only people who involved in crimanality with them are tolerated. They learned kids to hate Guadeloupeans first, to stay aware from us. They considered us like ennenies, before to know us, people you have to make money on their back (so sad), don’t talk to them… They are not here to live like any citizens, they are here to make money, no friends…They’re is 40 years it has been like that… How long this will continued. We are caribean people. You come with bad intentions, what we shoud do. What we supposed to do, when they get inside our house when we leaved, to making their traffic in our back, using our phone line, when they stop our children on school way, to sell drug to them. If somebody can tell me how this will be ended, I’am interesting to know, because, it’s appears clear to me, that this will no be continued anymore. Even they benefit of corruption of Police and politicians in Gwada, time is changing and Guadeloupéans despite, we are brothers and sisters of history, can take it anymore. Sorry in advance. I hope Dominicans and other foreigners people who come to commited crimes in our country, while they benefit of taxe money in Guadeloupe and in Dominica (developpement) will know that it’s time to think a different way.

Whereas this is a Federal offence, he can look forward to serve the entire fourteen long years in a Texas prison, by the time he is released his life will be over.

He can look forward to be coming the ” girlfriend, wife” of some harden criminal in jail for the next fourteen years. That is the sort of thing which happens to many of our people when they leave Dominica taking their bad nasty habits along with them out of the country.

Now he calls his grandmother a liar; but I do not believe she would be requested to travel from the Caribbean to Texas to testify in a trial if she herself was not under investigation by the DEA. If she was not involved she would not be subpoenaed, appear; and maybe for her turning State evidence was a deal to keep her out of jail too.

America is indeed the land of opportunity; every who comes to America have the same opportunity to accomplish the best for themselves, if you get here with a mediocre education, and cannot function the first order of business should be to head to some school and get an education.

A foreigner coming here has to be prepared to deal with “culture shock”, and, at some point and time be prepared to deal with “future shock”. Some of our people are anxious to come here hoping for a bed of Roses from the first day they arrived, that is an elusion.

As a result of some expecting a certain lifestyle which may never be accomplished their greed and cravings for that lifestyle causes them to get involved into the wrong, which cause them to cross the line. For this obvious reason, there are probably thousands of Dominicans sitting in American jails, the same thing happened during the migration to England in the late 1950’s and into the 1960’s to our people.

The Bible teaches: “By the sweet of thy face thou shall eat bread.” However, rather than equipping themselves with the kind of education that will help them to find a job, they concentrate on the criminal lifestyle they saw in the movie, and Television in Dominica, they believe that is natural life in America, and try to live it, and ultimately the result is as in this case.

Now when we talk of ignorance, and stupidity; we do not have to go very far to look for the fools among us, because the one whom calls themselves “Shut ur face” is the epitome of a fool. The term “shut your face” is something intended to mean shut your mouth, and is commonly used by most scum of the earth Americans, the very illiterate people Black, White, and the lowest of the low utilizes such terms.

However, this idiotic stupid Dominican fancy the garbage so much, he/she has adopted that as their name.

How stupid are our people, I suppose ” Shut ur face” has caused that person an American born!

      Mr Telemaque .

Hi, every chance you get you are putting our people down but don’t forget that Sweet Dominica made you what you are today. The majority of our people who migrated are productive citizens and don’t turn to crime. There are a very few who get into trouble because they choose to engaged in criminal activity .but We must always speak to our people and encourage them to do better and change their life style if they engaged in contour productive behavior. Just remember you are from Dominica and some day you will need us because you can’t hide in California forever. America has Laws upon Laws but they can’t solve their crime problems. Please tell us how many people were killed in Los Angeles last night.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        May 17, 2013

Sorry, I do not put my people down, I simply speak the truth.

Now the truth hurts, however I am not prepared to be bias, and pretend as if all of us who came out of Dominica are doing fine; abiding by the laws of the land in which we we resides.

There are thousands of Dominicans in Antigua, for example, the jail is overwhelmed with Dominicans, and if you check you will find that we have a bad reputation wherever our people are.

Like it or not that’s the way it is!

There are Dominicans I know in New York, New Jersey, and other parts of the United States, if I saw them coming towards me, I change my direction, so that I do not have to cross path with them, and you had better learn to do the same unless they are your relatives, and you know them very well.

My first nasty experience I had with two Dominicans took place in Antigua, in 1962, I a kid working at a gas station, when I recommended tow Dominicans, one Scott Telemaque (cousin) and Roosevelt Williams both from Wesley for employment, it was not too long after they both stabbed me in my back.

I will not detail what they did, all I’ll say I have survived much better they have over the years.

The owner Andrew knew me as a child, so what they try to do to me was meaning less, so I am talking from experience you see.

        To each his own anyway!

Please don’t ALLOW people to mislead you
    dangerous living will never pay.
Never follow friends who are into wrongdoing.
Too many Da youth are being lured into drugs and crime in the VI’s and also in strip clubs.
Some of them even go to St Thomas via the back door and many don’t have proper papers.
Their parents have no idea what type of lewd life theyre living.
Many are being used to traffic drugs across the islands waters and are currently being monitored.
State of the Art technology is being used ; so the authorities are fully aware what you are involved in.
Also lots of heavily paid , spy-type under-cover agents are being used to keep tract of these illegal activities and as a result you are being watched and it is just a matter of time.
I hate to report that many attractive looking Commonwealth Of Dominican Girls are being assessed. Many of them are on the list of concerned persons. Many of them reside in Tortola, St Martin, Virgin Gorda, St Johns, Anquilla, Antigua, St Thomas etc. They are under the control of drug dealers and some are into prostitution and human trafficking. People of Dominica many of your young ones are going to be called upon to waste their lives during the summer 2013 from those evil men out there. Many will claim to be living with family and or friends but no serious monitoring takes place during the day while those adults are work; hence opportunistic criminality takes place. These women are given a lot of money and pictures/videos are being produced on island and sold to contacts in Europe. I was made to believe that there is going to be a new Caribbean Porn site which will feature a lot of West Indian girls and a lot of data had been collected in this regard spanning well over 15 years now.
I hope that the Dominica authorities deal with this issue through media sensitization in schools, colleges and other means for it is a major crisis and has implications for national security and our productive sector.

I love the comment of VI’s Policeman. I know of girls from my community who live and work illegally in the V I’s and Tortola , Anguilla and Virgin Gorda and Antigua and SM who are known to be involved in these illegal activities. Some of them go to St.Thomas backdoor and the authorities is monitoring the situation. I need not say the types of nasty and criminal acts some of them are into. They come down Da blinging and there is no shame in their eyes. Some of our young girls have no flipping pride and the young men are just the same.
I AM WARNING STOP DISRESPECTING THE LAW YOU SHALL BE CAUGHT ONE DAY AND IT WONT BE A NICE EXPERIENCE THE MEDIA WILL PARADE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE EMBARASSED AND THOSE WHO YOU WORK FOR WILL BE OK.

The problem with these young people especially the guys is that they tend to follow natural born citizens of the US. Their parents need to educate them about these types of stories so they don’t find themselves in the same predicament. I left Dominica young, went to high school and college in the US. Every young person coming here have the opportunity to do the right thing, and most do, but the few who choose not to, must suffer the consequences. Hopefully this will be a lesson to the few who choose not to do the right thing.

Good afternoon sweet Dominica. Well another of our citizen get into trouble in America. This young man was given an opportunity to better himself and become a productive citizen but he chose a destructive path. I wonder how many of his guns were used to commit so many crimes during St Thomas carnival which spoiled my vacation. I also suspect that his family don’t understand the law to allow his grand mother to testify against him really helped sealed the Government case against him. I further suspect that he used Legal Aid Lawyer which made him testify therefore he opened himself to crossed examination by the US Attorney and they wire tapped his phone. Anyway I don’t feel sorry for this guy because he made a conscious decision to engaged in this criminal act. He just wasted an opportunity another of our citizen could have put to good use.

If he is not a US citizen or do not have landed status, of course, he will be deported. You should know that the US is deporting many of those who get in trouble. No exception Canada. Canada implemented a new Bill. Those governments are tired and fed-up of especially those who migrate here and who commit crimes. If they are not citizens they will eventually be deported. Those countries have ample criminals who are born there and some hard-core ones. Furthermore, if non-nationals-citizens are unemployed they will be wards of those governments which means they will be on welfare assistance and this costs those governments an exorbitant sum of money. It is easier and cheaper to deport them after they complete their sentence.

Some people never cease to amaze me. How can any rational thinking person blame the Government for an adult who has migrated to the land of opportunity, however, he chooses to engage in illegal acts? We must stop dividing the country by blaming the Government for everything. It all comes down to greed and envy. Young man, you chose the wrong path and so you must be penalized for your actions. Please make changes for your betterment. Seek and find your true purpose. Blessed Love.

I wish they did not hide his face so I could see if is someone I know. I hope he is not from another country but bought a cheap Dominican passport from one of those passport dealerships around the globe. If he is a 100% Dominican, then I suggest that the Prime Minister should contact Vince Henderson so he and the Us could get engaged in some diplomatic negotiation, similar to the one they were involved in with the late Chavez. Oops! that might not work either because I don’t think our present leaders like the US.

    • May 16, 2013

I tell everyone who is a US citizen by NATURALIZATION they can be deported if they commit crimes they DO NOT BELIEVE. Some do obtain citizenships even after they commit similar crimes. They are lucky. Everyone is NOT that lucky.

      • Justice and Truth
        May 16, 2013

It depends on the type of crimes they commit.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        May 17, 2013

        Now that is a lie!

If you are a naturalized American citizen, you are like any born American citizen, with all rights and privilege except one; and that is you can never become the president of the United States, which is a position reserved for only the natural born America.

Under every other circumstances when you are naturalized you are treated the same, if you commit a murder, or any heinous crimes you are subjected to the same treatment as an American born, deportation is not in the constitutional plan.

Now been a citizen is different to simply having permanent resident, and holding an Green Card: If you have a Green Card, and lived out of the United States, for a long period of time unless in service for the United States, such as serving in the military, upon returning to the United States, you will be refuse entry, and your Green Card forfeited.

That has happened to many Dominicans, including people from my Village of Wesley!

However the notion that the United States deports naturalized citizens is false and unfounded! If you can prove otherwise, state your case name one situation where you know this has taken place.

Note: the report said “A man, who US law enforcement said is from Dominica, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sending guns bought in Texas to the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

Nothing was said about his immigration status, except he will be deported upon his release from jail, and that happens everyday of the year to non-citizens of the united stats who has committed Federal crimes.

If you ask me I know people from the Caribbean, Antigua, and other places, and places like Belize, who has permanent Residence, they have committed crimes, went to jail, yet they are not deported, however since they are convicted felons they can never become Citizens of the United States.

Such people are vulnerable, and can lose their permanent residence for slightest mistake they make in the future. If the crime they committed occurred prior to their eighteenth birthday, they can go to court and seek to get their conviction expunged.

If they are over twenty years old, and they stay out of trouble for twenty years or more they can also have the conviction expunged.

Don’t run for the dictionary just yet, if you do not know what is meant to expunged a criminal conviction, it simply means the deletion from record. To strike out, or obliterate, in other words to cleanse of something morally harmful, or offensive.

Never create the false impression when you do not know how it works, or what you are talking about!

      • May 23, 2013

Hello. Since the World Trade Center bombing every thing changed. If you commit a violent class B Felony and up you can be stripped of your citizenship and be deported. I have been to a number of immigration and detention hearings which was part of the process to strip and deport violent convicted Felons.

please do not start that as to where this person was born, the important thing is the crime he committed, and he know he wasn’t born there so he shouldn’t be committing any crime, sending guns down to the Caribbean, most of the time is innocent people who get caught up in their drug and gun trafficking crime, and they may have it hard finding work in Dominica, as it is in many places all around the world, but they don’t all turn to drug/gun trafficking, crimes. it’s all about wanting to live the high life, fast cars, big house, and lots of money while pretending they work hard for it. Plain and simple. If he did the crime in a US state, then he has to do the time.good luck to him, hope he learn his lesson.

Well, it would be extremely difficult to refuse entry to your own citizens. However, we did sign an agreement with the U.K. in 2006 (Roseau, 2 May 2006 signatories: Patricia Scotland & Ian Douglas) that allows for the transfer of prisoners between the two countries, whereby a Britsh citizen convicted in Dominica can elect to serve his/her sentence in the U.K. and vice versa. I think this is a better arrangement. If my memorry serves me right this asgreement came with a monetary inducement from the U.K. part of which was used for reconstruction/enlargement at the Stockfarm correctional facility.

You sound very ignorant and I would hate to call you such names because it would put me in your category so I am going to tell you something you don’t know.I am a born Dominican and very proud to be and my family moved to the USVI when I was 5 years old so basically I lived, breathe and sleep VI.I have been working in the justice department in the USVI for 25 years now and what you don’t know is the worst crimes that are committed are from born and breed VI.this is a fact and the main reasons are VI people are mostly very lazy, live their life just for today and they love some government benefits.
Don’t get me wrong the other islanders do commit crimes but my colleagues and I were recently discussing that most of the other islands people that commit the big crimes are always very close friends with born and breed VI people.95% of Dominicans living in the VI are very hard working and try their best to stay away from government benefits compared to the 10% of hardworking VI people and those have other island blood in them.
So going forward check your facts before you speak and if I was in your place I would never compared crime doers with people from the other island because without them there will not be a vergin island…if I have grammar error I am sorry because typing from iPad…..peace and love to all my island people.

    • May 16, 2013

The Virgin Islands (CARIBBEAN)is NOT CRIME FREE, and it is NOT those that come on the Island that commit all those crimes. Your very own ISLANDERS commit crimes. Send them back of course so YOU can go to work and pay YOUR TAXES. They came to better YOUR LIFE too. Did it ever occur to YOU that the guns was sent to a VIRGIN ISLANDER?

    • Dominican
      May 16, 2013

Firstly it takes two or more persons to commit conspiracy, so he didn’t act alone. There had to be someone in the Virgin Islands to receive the guns when they came. Secondly, i assure you that no Dominican would be sending $60,000 to buy guns. With that kind of money he would run home and build his little shack

If he is a US CITIZEN and WINS his appeal, if he appeals, and the court finds evidence contrary to the charge he has a slim chance of staying in the country, but if evidence shows he is GUILTY as charged there is NOTHING to stop deportation.
