The two Dominicans, who were arrested in connection with a large drug seizure in St. Lucia, last Friday evening, have been officially charged.

On Monday, March 18, 2013, Alex James, 39, and Rawlins Rolle, 33, fishermen from Roseau, Dominica, appeared before the Second District Court in St. Lucia, to answer to the charges of possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.

According the St. Lucia police, officers attached to the Marine Unit of the southern division intercepted a blue, orange and black boat named “Von Von,” 8.2 nautical miles south of Gros Piton, Soufriere in the island’s territorial waters at about 9.00 pm Friday.

The boat was searched and 1,487.2 pounds of cannabis were found.

James and Rolle, who were aboard the vessel, were arrested and taken into custody.

The drugs were seized by police.

Both men have been remanded in custody at Bordelais Correctional Facility until Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

    Act OF Contrition…
I don’t see Dominica ever eradicating the movement of drugs, guns or people in its’waters.
And not only Dominica but all the other caribbean islands.
Dominica does not have the financial capabilities for that.
From what I know Martinique and Guadeloupe are way more equiped,by way of their coast guard,to deal with such. And they are not exempted,it still goes on there.Far less for Dominica..
With that said,I don’t believe any politician is to be blamed for that. All men have to on deck if it is to be curtailed.Villagers have to report any strange activities in the waters to the authorities, and that I know is very unlikely.
Other than that it will continue to be a hit, miss situation.Ninty nine days for the thief, one day for the guard.

Waw! you mean to tell me these guys were from Roseau, the heart of the country, in the mouth of the police department, which includes the drug squad and the marin unit and yet they were able to get to St. Lucia with 1487.2 lbs of weed before they intercepted by the SLU Marine Unit? Shocking! Who takes the blame?
In the US, when Mexicans cross the Boarder illegally and sometimes with drugs the GOP blames Obama for not protecting the boader and Obama accepts the blame. I wonder who failed to do their job here and who to blame? Is it Edison and the opposition since they appointed the the border patrol officers, the coast guard, the minister of responsible for national security, and off course is the opposition leader that decides when to send the coast guard out and where to send them?
According to some comments I read these guys have been doing this thing way before Skeritt came in power and therefore Skeritte cannot and should not be blamed. It is something that he inheritted just as he inherited a country with no law and or constitution. The fact is, when Dr. Carisa Etienne gets a job abroad we say thanks to the PM, although she had all her skills and qualifications before Skeritte was made the PM, but when Dominicans are caught with drugs abroad, almost on a weekly basis, and make the rest of us feel bad abroad, we should blame that on the opposition because they are resposible for failures. So don’t blame the PM for that guys! Just glorify him when he negotiates for a 34 seater flight to replace the out going AE.

What BS is all that? Why does everything have to hinge on politics, the politicians and even the Prime Minister? Furthermore, what does someone’s location on the island have to do with drug trafficking. Did it occur to you that the drugs were picked up at some other location and not necessarily at the point of departure?

    • March 20, 2013

Do not hate. We do not know who the drug dealers are, all we assume is that these people are only doing the dirty work. Surprisingly, the little people always get caught.
