Legal Affairs Minister Ian Douglas has said the time is ripe to push for the establishment of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) as the final court of appeal.
Douglas, who was at the time delivering an address at the official launch of the first free law fair in Dominica on Saturday, questioned whether legal professionals have done all it could in pushing for the establishment of the CCJ. He said the populace may not understand all the issues surrounding the debate.
The Caribbean Court of Justice shall perform to the highest standards as the supreme judicial organ in the Caribbean Community. In its original jurisdiction it ensures uniform interpretation and application of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, thereby underpinning and advancing the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.
As the final court of appeal for member states of the Caribbean Community it fosters the development of an indigenous Caribbean jurisprudence.
I don’t know why the hell Portsmouth people vote for this man….. please people any body else but him… he is a waste of time and money. Lets be wise next elections ok. We want development …….

Dominica has just become a rotten, rotten place since this bunch of haven’t got clue thugs come into power. The country is rotting from the top, every institution is compromised, every one of them. The police protect the rich and powerful murders and they want awards when then use a poor man as an example of the (PROFESSIONAL) work. Professional my foot! That swamp of vipers and poisonous reptiles needed to be drained quickly to save Dominica.. And please do not come and tell us anything about policing and law in Dominica unless the people who attempted to incinerate Mr. Emanuel and his wife at their homes on Christmas day and brought to the justice they deserve. Stop provoking us to anger!
Its a global thing ok….
8 years now since I paid a lawyer to do my business and I am still not able to get my documents – why? because the lawyer is now a minister. I am yet to get my money back. Until some lawyers start going to jail we will continue to witness the degradation of our society. A lawyer conveniently forgot to pay taxes on a land deal for the PM and neither the lawyer nor the client was prosecuted or charged.
Lawyers facilitating money laundering and the police can’t do a darn thing about it. The lawyers together with the politicians are obviously beyond the justice system Dominica and only the poor man ah feel it ( Peter Tosh)
you jump from tourism to legal affairs!!! i not in Dominica man, Papa!!!!!
“A misunderstood profession huh.” – After getting shafted by lawyers in Dominica I am convinced that since a genuine honest lawyer is never readily available the next place to find a lawyer – go to a cesspool and you will find the rest of them swimming, some of them head diving of the sewer
Portsmouth for him to go an look about, lapsa, never had we had such a foolish parlrep
