A Dominica State College (DSC) student is among three men charged and remanded in custody until November 7 in connection with a robbery which took place at McMillan All-in-One Gas Station on October 20, 2011.
Telford George, the DSC student of New Town, Leon Toussaint and Elio Edwards of Point Michel appeared before Magistrate Ossie Lewis who deferred bail until the mentioned date to allow police time to complete investigations. At the November 7 hearing, the court is expected to decide whether the defendants should be released on bail.
The men allegedly stole $3,325.06 of which only $225 has been recovered.
According to the charge, the three men allegedly used force on Wendy Baron, a McMillan Gas Station employee, during the robbery.
Lawyer for Edwards and Toussaint, David Bruney tried to convince the court to grant his clients bail but the police prosecutor countered by stating that more time was needed to recover the remainder of the stolen cash. The prosecution also argued that if released at this juncture the men would interfere with witnesses.
Bruney in response said that while his clients are innocent, there was no guarantee that whatever money was stolen was not already spent. He also said that based on the nature of the case it would have been practically impossible for his clients to know who the witnesses were in order to interfere with them.
Disclosure is set for December 31,2011 and the preliminary inquiry for February 6, 2012.
Meanwhile George, the student, was further charged with possession and intent to supply 37 grams of cocaine. He pleaded not guilty to the intent to supply charge to which a trial was set for April 20, 2012 for the matter.He was also remanded in respect to that matter.
Additionally, 19-year-old Edwards was sentenced to pay $1,800 compensation to Cassandra Lestrade for a chain which he stole from her on October 6 in Roseau. He had pleaded guilty to that crime on Wednesday before another magistrate but was sentenced today. He will pay the amount by November 30 or face 4 months jail. He was also fined $1,000 to be paid by January 31, 2012 or he faces another four months in prison.
The robbery at the gas station was one in a series of armed robberies plaguing Dominica in recent times.

Here are a couple of mistakes you make while you are a youth and for that you should be given a second chance:
1. You shoplift at Astaphan’s or Breezy Mart.
2. You took your parent’s care without their permission and crashed. You didn’t even have a driver’s licence.
