Local calypsonian, Chris “Chris B” Sylvester, who is facing several charges in relation to a shooting incident in St. Joseph, has had his bail reduced from $60,000 to $50,000 when he appeared in court on Friday.

This after a heartfelt plea to magistrate, Berrand Pacquette.

He told the court he is an asset to the country and is a good person.

“I am not a bad person,” he stated. “I have a seven and a three-year-old to take care of. I am a good citizen.”

Sylvester has been behind bars since his last court appearance on July 11 because he could not get a surety to stand bail.

He pointed out that he is very disappointed in himself and it difficult to get someone to bail him.

His plea prompted Pacquette to trim $10,000 off the original bail amount.

Despite the reduction, Sylvester remains on remand at the State Prison and will remain there until he receives a proper surety for bail.

At his first court appearance, on July 11, Joseph pleaded not guilty to four out of six charges filed against him in relation to the shooting incident.

Meanwhile Lorenzo Pinard, of Bath Estate, who was charged with burglary following a break in at Pizza Hut in Roseau on July 2, was granted bail in the sum of $3,000 on his own recognizance in court on Friday.

He was arrested on July 3 and was charged in the matter when he appeared in court on July 7.

As condition of bail he is to report to the Roseau Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.

He was ordered not to commit a similar offence while on bail.

According to the police, Pinard entered the business establishment in the early hours of the morning of July 2 and stole several items, including laptops, boxed drinks, a bag of bacon, a bag of chicken wings and cell phones.

Some of the items were recovered.

A safe containing $7,793.63 was also taken from the establishment, however it was found nearby later the same morning. The money was not stolen since the safe could not be tampered with.

The value of all items stolen amounted to 24,446.41.

I cannot understand how the bail money could be so much lower than the items stolen. I thought bail was supposed to be a security, for if the skipped the bail. Somebody please explain this to me.

Well, well you have children, how about the single mother that you stupidly shot. How can you say you are a good citizen and you run the route., in your own words you felt violated for $2. Can you put a price on the 4 people who were shot. You are still hot. You got to learn from your mistakes and have respect for human lives.

You are a good man and an asset to the country? Do you not know the difference of right from wrong and good and bad people? Good people are a model to society in general. Their entire life reflects it. This also means a good example to the youths including your children.
Good men who are assets to the country do not conduct themselves in the manner in which you did, utilizing a gun and shooting at people. You could have killed them! Would this be an action of a good man?
You have failed being a good man and an asset to this country. You still have a good chance of making amends and change your ways after you have served your time.
Accept your lot and what you have wrought upon yourself. Be sincerely remorseful and vow, with the help of God to change your ways.
You are in dire need of God’s blessings and graces, a few are love, patience and humility. Try working at these in order to practice them and pray that God will forgive you for what you have done.

You did not know you were a good citizen when you went and sprayed the place with bullets. Is that what good citizens do in your twisted world?

You need to spend some tie behind bars to contemplate your actions. A person at this stage of his life should anticipate the effects of his actions on society. It is this antisocial attitude that has where you are today.

What reason did you have to be carrying a gun in the first place? What did you thing would happen when you shoot a gun in a public place? Did you stop to realize how you could have permanently change the life of an innocent person if they were hit in the spine or god forbid you had killed the sole breadwinner of a family of 4?

It is only now you realized that you were a danger to the society in which you live?

I guess carrying a gun made you feel like you were the king of St. Joseph and no one could mess with you.

I hope you take the time to think ahead before you endanger the life of another innocent person.

I would have had more sympathy for you if you were a 17 year old. A grown man ought to know better and act accordingly.
