While the police were able to maintain a relatively peaceful carnival, a number of persons were arrested for breaching the 2013 Carnival Order.
One of them, Errol Wallace, 19 of 15 Steber Street, Pottersville, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and being armed with an offensive weapon.
The court was told on Wednesday that Wallace was searched by members of the Task Force during Carnival and he was found to be in possession of a cutlass hidden under his shirt and marijuana.
His explanation to the police was that he was “looking for them (the police) to give them the cutlass because he had taken it from people who tried to attack him.”
His lawyer, Ronald Charles, in mitigation told the court that his client was “under attack” and had to run for his life. “He has fully co-operated with the police, also not wasted the court’s time and pleaded guilty, we ask that a none custodial sentence be imposed on him,” Charles said.
Charles told the court that Wallace is a “young man” who has strayed a bit but was on his way to making amends and has been enrolled in a programme at the Business Training Center in Roseau.
Police prosecutor Inspector Weekes told the court that “it was time for the legislators to revisit the Carnival Order and impose stiffer fines for Offensive Weapon.” Presently the maximum penalty for carrying an offensive weapon during Carnival is $1,000.
Magistrate Candia George called the offences “serious” and called on him to take “hold of his life before it’s too late.”
“Go to church and behave yourself,” she told him before slapping him with $1,000 for offensive weapon to be paid by March 31, 2013 or in default 6 months jail and for cannabis $500 to be paid by April 30, 2013 in default one month behind bars.
but but but wait how is that picture DNO use for that Story hummmmm…..

just look at his explanation and look at his lawyer’s lame excuse. come on ronald you can or you should be able to do better than that.
“His lawyer, Ronald Charles, in mitigation told the court that his client was “under attack” and had to run for his life” if i understand this statement properly his lawyer is telling the courts that this young man’s “life” is his cutlass cause this is what he ran for.
There is two sides to every story and sometimes incidents as this one have some history!!
Did you ever stop to think that he may have been talking the truth? And would you willingly run to the first police officer you meet with a cutlass? Of course I would put the cutlass under my shirt and run for my life if I managed to take it from my attackers! Can you imagine how he would look running with a cutlass in his hands on a carnival day? Sometimes we have to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes.
oh lord its never too late to learn something new. i never knew that business training is now a college. i keep saying business training centre. thanks DNO for educating me
Why was my comment deleted. The very very first comment on the story. I personally think it was a biased and unfair move because we preach democracy and fairness but when we speak our minds we are shut out, comments are deleted and many other facts are omitted. It is upsetting indeed!

TO Admin: I appreciate the story but I am just thinking that maybe reference could be made to the general address of the person without mentioning the house number.
A thought.
Inappropriate photo for that story. These nicely dressed girls deserve better publicity.
DNO, wrong photo! Don’t associate this peace-loving, law-biding, Carnival-supporting group with this punk!
He’s no punk!! lol
I support Inspector Weeks wholeheartedly! Time to put an end to all that.
What lame excuse/lie is this lawyer making for his client. “his client was under attack and had to run for his life. Wallace is a “young man” who has strayed a bit but was on his way to making amends and has been enrolled in a programme at the Business Training College.
Weh, the power of money!
