Home for Christmas – men accused of murder and manslaughter out on bail

Three men who had been charged with murder now have the privilege of spending the Christmas holidays with their families.

Curtis “Shakes” Richards and Andy Prosper were bailed last week after being remanded and charged for murder and conspiracy to murder Allan Bardouille of Newtown, Mannison Thomas  of Fond St. Jean and Kenneth Birmingham of Kingshill.

The bodies of the three deceased men were found in a boat belonging to Richards about 26 miles off the coast of Salisbury in early October.

Richards and Prosper were bailed for $500,000 each last Thursday following a bail hearing at the High Court of Justice. Their trial date is set for March 9, 2010.

In another matter, 18-year-old Ricky Angol of Grand Bay, who was charged with the murder of his father Yusif Angol, has also been bailed since his arrest in October.

Angol had allegedly stabbed his father when he attempted to break up a fight between his father and mother on October 7, 2009 at Grand Bay.

In a bail hearing earlier this month the charge of murder was reduced to manslaughter and Angol was bailed for $30,000. Angol’s trial is set for February 2010.

Just because a person is charged, that does not mean he is guilty
    “innocent until proven guilty”

until the jury don’t give its sentence, these men are innocent

What is wrong with our judicial system? It seems like murder has been reduced to a minor offence. I hope this does not send the wrong message. Can someone help me understand who is responsible for this? Is it the Judge or the prosecution or just a matter of having the money to poste bail?

  20. December 23, 2009

SEEMINGLY THIS HAS BECOME A TREND IN DOMINICA THATS WHY I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE IN AN EYE FOR AN EYE AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH, BECAUSE THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM IS CRAP.

  21. December 23, 2009

I guess when you have a lot of money and you powerful anything is possible. Them fellas should be in prison until their case is brought to the court. I guess maybe dem police lacking evidence on dat case or dey mess up the whole thing.

WHAT IS MURDER COMING TO IN OUR BELOVED COUNTRY? BOY IF THE LAW SO COOL WITH MURDER AND MURDERERS PREPAIR FOR THE WORST IN OUR COUNTRY CAUSE MORE PEOPLR WILL KILL. LORD GOD I PRAY THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN.

  23. December 23, 2009

if all the muders going home for christmas, why not open all the jail doors and release everyone else. we will ask them to check back in after new years day. this not right .how are the families of the deceased supposed to feel?

  24. What?
    December 23, 2009

Correct me if I am wrong but aren’t defendants of murder trials supposed to be denied bail due to the nature of the case and crime?

As far as I am aware this is the norm in several countries including ours.
