The Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU) has been successful in providing presentation to another of its members.

WAWU challenged the termination of the employment of John Jno Baptiste, a former employee of J.E Nassief.

Secretary General of WAWU Kertiste Augustus says a tribunal has ruled in the favour of Jno Baptiste, awarding him a compensation package for wrongful dismissal.

“The member was employed for over seven years, was terminated and we challenged it. We made our presentation to the tribunal and they found that we were correct,” he said.

Augustus said the tribunal ruled that the issue of serious misconduct by Mr. Jno Baptiste could not be proven by the management of J.E Nassief.

“They found that the termination was unjust and the employment of Mr. Jno Baptiste was wrongfully terminated and on that basis awarded compensation to him,” he said.

His former employer has until April 30, 2011 to settle the undisclosed amount.
