A suspect is assisting the police in investigating the stabbing death of a man on J’ouvert morning.

Ken Mitchel, 26, of Gallion was killed after he was allegedly stabbed in the upper left area of the chest.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at about 9:40 am on Hanover Street in Roseau during the height of the J’ouvert parade.

Mitchel was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) where he was pronounced dead.

Police PRO, Claude Weekes said charges could be laid “as soon as it is time to do so.”

“One suspect, a young man is assisting in the investigation,” he told state-owned DBS Radio.

One of Dominica’s band, WCK, has sympathized with Mitchel’s family and hopes those responsible will be swiftly brought to justice.

Alleged, supposed, suspected, so-called, assumed. it is only the doctor who can say that the person was stabbed for sure after his professional conclusion. The word alleged is not being used to misled person or to covey and different meaning to the word.

It is frivolous to make so many assumptions and one has to be guided by his words. Even if you know is a stab wound you cannot just say so…

So tell me where are the police offices to get read of all these spectators? Dominica is the only coutry i know a crime is committed and you have all these people hampering the investigation. Hello and good evening my people. First I want to offer my condolence to the victims family and may he rest in peace. It saddens me to be reading about this young man being stabbed to death during carnival and I just can’t understand why would anyone engaged in such vicious behavior. Anyone who witness this Homicide please help the Police to bring this criminal to justice. I feel sad.

DNO did not have a doctor’s report, I thought they did the best under the circumstances. The upper left area is a large area, had they reported that the man was allegedly stabbed in the upper left area very close to the heart, then I would understand your point of view.

Observer, that is the conflicting reports we hear all the time, and even so called educators would read those reports and never comment. last year a woman was killed, cold blooded in the village of Glanvillia, and while reports from the streets suggested that one person a suspect, the police report said, it was speculation. What is wrong with our dictionary, especially in cases where the victim’s family remains in shock, conflicting reports scatter their dreams and hopes further.

You can run but you cannot hide. Not in this world. The most you can do is pray and hope that nothing of the sort happens to you or anyone that you know.
Pray to God for his protection.
Pray to God for Dominica and other nationals.
Pray to God that crimes/murders be eradicated from Dominica and from the face of the earth for that matter.
May God answer your prayers, my prayers and that of others.

“after he was allegedly stabbed in the upper left area of the chest”. Isn’t it a fact that the gentleman was stabbed in the chest? Wasn’t there a wound in the man’s chest that was created as a result of a sharp object entering his chest area? So why the “allegedly stabbed” report? I understand it is to be very early to name the alleged offender, even when the police has reported that somebody is assiting them. But I really do not understand why the incident which actually happened in broad daylight on the Streets of Roseau should be reported as a mere “allegation”. Whether it was a self inflicted wound (which is very doubtful base on the word coming off the streets that day). or inflicted by someone else (which seem the more plausible) the fact of the matter is that there was a stabbing incident and not an alleged stabbing incident. Somebody could be alleged to have committed the crime but the crime did in fact take place and so there is no ambiguity about that.

      To Observer.

Hello and good morning my people. Mr Weekes is a high ranking member of the Police Department and he’s also their spokes person but I can’t understand why he speak like that. He should have said that the victim was stabbed in the left chest area and he was removed to the hospital where he was pronounced DOA. He should also asked the public if they have any information about this incident to please contact Crime Stoppers rather he said a suspect is assisting with the investigation. It seems to me that he is telling the suspect to asked for an Attorney or for his family to retain an Attorney. Mr Weekes is a prime example of why we have so many known criminals roaming our streets.
