Man gets four years for looting

A man has been sentenced to four years for looting in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

He was sentenced at the St. Joseph’s Magistrate Court.

Reports are that he pleaded guilty to looting at the Fine Foods Warehouse in Jimmit.

It has been reported that police found a number of items in his possession including a solar panel, three batteries, a chiller and a transformer, among others.

There was widespread looting on the island following Hurricane Maria.

In the aftermath of the storm, the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) said the private sector in Dominica was dealt a major blow because of looting.

Some have described the matter as the “human hurricane.”

The looting was done by thousands and thousands of people from all walks of life from all over the country. The police left a vacuum where good people did bad things.

Keep this on the books. Let it be a lesson for others in the event, some years from now a storm/hurricane strikes.
If they are hungry and loot for food to eat for them and their family, it is another matter but to go to a business specifically to steal their supplies which they will need for the country is another matter.
From what I heard some of them, after looting, they destroyed the place. It is the height of wickedness. They lack discipline and consideration. Four years is insufficient. Hope he learns a lesson from this imprisonment. Hard labor should be his lot.
