Man gets lucky break for wounding senior citizen

court2Terry Boyd of Pointe Michel can count his lucky stars after he escaped a jail sentence for wounding an elderly man, Alex Darroux, from the same community on November 16.

Boyd appeared in court on Tuesday and according to reports Darroux was walking the road in the community when he was violently push by Boyd.

He fell to the ground and had to be assisted by persons nearby who called the police and ambulance.

Darroux received a 4-cm cut to his head and was admitted overnight at the Alford Ward for further examinations. He was discharged the following day.

When asked by the court why he pushed the elderly man, Boyd said “I was drunk, people say I push him.”

But the magistrate was not amused telling Boyd that he has a record of violence.

“You have been convicted for threats, battery on female, armed with offensive weapon, wounding and the list goes on when will you stop,” Magistrate Ossie Lewis stated.

Lewis took into consideration that Boyd actually came to court and pleaded guilty to the offense.

He was fined $1,000 to be paid by March 2014 or in default four months behind bars.

He was also ordered to compensate Darroux in the sum of $200 to be paid by December 15 or one month in the slammer.

In other court news, 27-year-old Kaywanna Basil of Upper Lane Roseau pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis while her boyfriend, Sherman Boston, pleaded not guilty.
The police armed with a search warrant went to Boston’s home in search of cannabis and found a burnt half cigarette marijuana which Basil said was hers.

She received a reprimand by the magistrate for the infraction.

Terry Boyd should take an anger management course if there is one in Dominica. He should be rehabilitated. Otherwise in years to come he will become more violent.
What has he got against senior citizens? This man has no respect for the elderly. Should he commit such a crime in the future, he should be imprisoned.

But wait a minute, he was fined $1000 but ordered to compensate Darroux $200? But who is really the victim here, the court or Mr. Darroux?

Is the justice system in Dominica a for-profit organization?

Hey Sherman, that is a ride or die chick you got there my brudder…

I must say that I am very disappointed. This chap has been terrorizing residents of Pointe Michel for a very long time. He attacked an innocent and elderly senior citizen and you know what, he has gotten away with it. He should be put behind bars. Are we waiting when he deals a fatal blow? Then it might be too late. Shame on the magistrate.

It was not even a half burnt cigarette. It was the end filter and ashes. Did the reporter not hear that it was sent to the lab to test. Was the reporter at court? If he or she was there, they would have written the correct information. Just saying! Please do not erase my comment. Just correct is all I ask. I was there at court.

Quality of life offences. According to Bob Marley give them a foot they will take a yard. It is always easy to stand on the outside and blow hot air until those same so called low level Drug dealers come knocking on our door, driven by the need to smoke a joint. Think of these things people the police have a job to do and they must do it. The use of drugs and the damage it already caused and will continue to cause cannot be condoned at all. When it gets worst the same persons will be the ones to say where is the police? Typical Dominicans. Do as I say but don’t do as I do”. Smh”.

Total waste of time, u mean you going to take a person to the station, arrest them, charge them, write up the charge, give them bail and then have a court hearing for a half joint, come on man, i mean you didnt do anything wrong, its the job but come on man, dont waste time in court with that nonesense officer.
