Man involved in fatal accident gets bail

Layne Royer. Photo from Facebook public profile

Layne Royer, who is facing charges of careless driving and causing death by dangerous driving, was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 when he appeared in court on Tuesday.

Royer was involved in an accident on Saturday August 11, which took the life of Samuel ‘Blanc’ Alie, of Boetica who lived in Church Lane, Goodwill.

Alie worked as a security guard at the Public Works Corporation.

The police have reported that Royer was driving on the wrong side of the Goodwill Road in a Hyundai SUV when he reportedly struck Samuel who was crossing the road at the same time.

Royer pleaded not guilty to careless driving and did not enter a plea for causing death by dangerous driving because it is an indictable offense and must be heard before a judge and jury.

As a condition of bail Royer must report to the Mahaut Police Station every Monday between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.

His mother, Matilda Royer, stood as surety.

This man isn’t supposed to be out on bail. he should be in the pen. driving on the wrong side of the road and man is struck and killed. there is no way that you be not guilty. this is like a pre-meditated murder. should be incasarated until trial. but the system is tied up. let the deceased rest in peace.

People For Christ Sake . Two families are suffering here right now. Layne is NOT a criminal. This was an accident. No pointing finger. Layne made a mistake he will pay for is mistake. Stop watching the man like a criminal. We all make mistakes big or small. I hope Layne Learns from that mistake and picks himself up and dust his self off. Turn your life around stay away from those bad influence on your life.

there is no reason that layne should plead not guilty to careless driving. for one he was on the wrong side of the road. what were u doing there layne? now the second charge causing death by dangerous driving i believe ur plead should be guilty and hope and pray that the court find favourable sentence for u. we all make mistakes bt it does not justify the fact that we are guilty of wrong doing. just saing

Well this is certainly aweful news. First I would like to offer my sincerest condolenses to the family of the deceased…” a death in the family is never easy, but feels even worst when someone else is responsible”. AS FOR LAYNE: I have know him since he was a little kid, and he was and is a good kid. While accidents do happen, they must be explained. There need to be a reason for the incident and if Layne is responsible he should be held responsible. In other countries vehicular homicide is charges to people who are under the influence or driving recklessly and the drivers is not allowed to drive for a period of time and or serve some gail time as punishment. Of course this will not change what happened, but it will serve as a stern warning to others that a car is not a toy, but a 2 ton projectile! Layne, I pray that you were within your rights, but I also pray for the family of the one who lost their loved one … May his soul rest in peace. Please D/ca brothers drive safely… the roads are not meant to race and fool around on, this is not the fast and furious!

It is always sad to hear of a death of a love one or close friend. with that said, one must be mindful that this was an accident! This is not a murder and hence the reason for him being granted bail. There are hundreds of reasons that one could be driving on the wrong side of the road so let us not speculate as to why. He will have his day in court to answer to the charge

We all make mistakes, no one wants to deliberately kill someone. The Wayne that I know would never want to do that. Wayne hold strong, pray for God’s help. God is a great God, I know the pain you and your mom are going through. The family of the victim I share your pain as well, and we must remember that two families are in grief and the judge and jury here is the Almighty father. To the both families I say hold on to the belief that “The Almighty does not give us more than we can bear, and if he takes us to it, he will take us through it”. My prayers and thoughts are with both grieving families, be strong and God Bless you. Rather than we just blasting each other let us be a little more caring people. After all we are all each other’s keeper.

Was he intoxicated and tired? Was he partying? It is time to take driving seriously and be cautious. When will some DA drivers drive cautiously? What is wrong with you that you do not obey road regulations? You need to take a course in discipline and road courtesy. Even though you are on the right side of the road, you must still drive carefully and look out for other drivers and pedestrians. Who knows? A pedestrian could cross the street and get knocked down, injured or killed. Of course, this may not be your fault. Another driver may be driving recklessly and cross in front of you. Everyone must look out for the other. This is also called safe driving.
This goes to show, always drive cautiously. Obey road regulations and the speed limit. Keep your eyes on the road at all times. Do not play loud music so as not to get distracted. Keep the music and singing low key. There are times while driving conversations must be kept to a minimum and on a low tone.
Once an accident occurs, there is no turning back. There will be regrets but those who are injured could be maimed for life. A life lost can never be regained. Play it safe! Drive safely!

Heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. Layne, we can only know what happened when u do stand trial. In the mean time, trust and pray and ask for pardon. This reminds me of the accident at Silver Lake some time ago where Lizette (I believe tht was her name)caused death by driving and took Ian’s life. Whatever became of tht case because from what I hear she is out on bail, in the Virgin Islands with some “friend” having fun.

Layne is my old classmate from DGS. We were actually good friends then. Both loved our video games. He was the first man to introduce me to Battletoads. Good old times. Driving on the wrong side of the road sounds sketchy. If his recklessness did in fact cost the deceased his life then he should be made to pay. Last I knew, Lane came from a well-to-do family. Hopefully the legal system sorts this out and brings it to a just conclusion.

    • qstorm78
      August 22, 2012

@CAH-C-Bruce, He was also my class-mate from DGS. I never knew him to be reckless or to get into trouble. I actually saw him a few weeks before this, and know his kids and girlfriend. Never once did I believe he was being reckless. Me too would expect there to be some sort of punishment regardless, because another human life was taken.

To those who are making so much ridiculous statements without knowing one bit of fact, the victims family has been in touch with him and is also showing their support even through their difficult time.

He’s having an equally terrible time dealing with this himself and i’m sure he wish it never happened.

So to the family of the victim, may God give you the strength to get through this difficult time. And to every driver out there, please be more cautious.

I am asking why a young man, who killed another young man was doing at his home all the time? Shouldn’t he be temporarily detained? The accident happened during the weekend but Layne was not held in the cell until bail time; he was at his home, while a family was grieving. It is so unfair.

I am also shocked that it is only today Layne was granted bail….10 days after he killed an innocent man; yet, he lies at his home.

Don’t get me wrong but Layne violated several traffic laws such as speeding, slight intoxication and driving on the wrong side of the road resulting in an untimely death of a HUMAN, not an animal..and it is Samuel’s family I am feeling sorry for. They now have to evoke money to bury him….

Mr Alie’s family is left to mourn his death, due to Mr Royers’s negligence.

He is guilty, driving on the wrong side of the road and killing the pedestrian who was crossing. He disobeyed road regulations.
The poor man. Consider him crossing and then seeing an oncoming vehicle, too late for him to dash away from it. How sad he lost his life through a reckless driver and he pleads not guilty. He should simply plead guilty and get it over and done with. Does he hope to be acquitted? I hope not. A man lost his life because of his negligence and this is a serious offence. He may regret it but he cannot bring him back. Too late for regret. They must drive carefully and keep to their side of the road at whatever time of day or night in so doing many injuries and deaths could be avoided.

I’m sorry for the loss of the families concerned. I think that it is time for more serious policing as it relates to traffic and traffic violations. For any person causing death our injury to an individual while operating a motor vehicle they should have their license revoked or for a period of time in which period they aren’t allowed operate any vehicle. We need random traffic stops especially on weekends for persons driving under the influence and heavy fines to go with it. We need properly lighted and designated crossing areas on major roadways and fines for the people who don’t abide or use these crossing areas. On areas approaching more populated areas after highways, proper signage, lighting and speed bumps to ensure vehicles reduce sorted on approaching those

I sympathise with the families on both sides because it is a hard thing to deal with all around but stop treating the man like he is a wilful murderer!! inspite of him speeding and being on the wrong side of the road, it was not premeditated, it was not wilfull and this could have happen to the most perfect driver.
