Layne Royer, who is facing charges of careless driving and causing death by dangerous driving, was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 when he appeared in court on Tuesday.
Royer was involved in an accident on Saturday August 11, which took the life of Samuel ‘Blanc’ Alie, of Boetica who lived in Church Lane, Goodwill.
Alie worked as a security guard at the Public Works Corporation.
The police have reported that Royer was driving on the wrong side of the Goodwill Road in a Hyundai SUV when he reportedly struck Samuel who was crossing the road at the same time.
Royer pleaded not guilty to careless driving and did not enter a plea for causing death by dangerous driving because it is an indictable offense and must be heard before a judge and jury.
As a condition of bail Royer must report to the Mahaut Police Station every Monday between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
His mother, Matilda Royer, stood as surety.
This man isn’t supposed to be out on bail. he should be in the pen. driving on the wrong side of the road and man is struck and killed. there is no way that you be not guilty. this is like a pre-meditated murder. should be incasarated until trial. but the system is tied up. let the deceased rest in peace.
People For Christ Sake . Two families are suffering here right now. Layne is NOT a criminal. This was an accident. No pointing finger. Layne made a mistake he will pay for is mistake. Stop watching the man like a criminal. We all make mistakes big or small. I hope Layne Learns from that mistake and picks himself up and dust his self off. Turn your life around stay away from those bad influence on your life.
I will start by sayin accidents do happen…..but an inoccent person is gone…we all need to respect that and let the guy family morn in piece..sayin bad things and throwin old comments is not goin to make anythin better..than just gettin matters worst..layne my prayers goes out to you and to the boys family…prayers..god is good…
All you those face book fans see how all you pics easy to get.
I have known Layne and his family all my life growing up in Massacre and they are great people. While I extend sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, I pray that Layne will survive this mentally and spiritually.
Dont worry Layne, after a storm there is a calm.
After Isaac ther must be a calm. I am sure that Dominicans forgot you for a while and was focusing on Isaac.Just keep praying talk to God, give him you all and He will see you through.
The family of the victim keep praying also that God may ease your pain, I know that it is also hard for you. My sincere condolences.
i was shocked when i heard wat happened, hope all goes well.
there is no reason that layne should plead not guilty to careless driving. for one he was on the wrong side of the road. what were u doing there layne? now the second charge causing death by dangerous driving i believe ur plead should be guilty and hope and pray that the court find favourable sentence for u. we all make mistakes bt it does not justify the fact that we are guilty of wrong doing. just saing
Where you there?????leave those police to do there job…..
Unfortunate, but people must understand that vehicles are made of metal they are lethal!! Not to be toyed with. Motorist and pedestrians alike, respect the road. Look before you cross
no one wins in this…layne is a good person…i think living with the fact that he killed someone is enough…it was an accident…my sympathy to both parties
Driving on the wrong side of the road is an offense, furthermore getting one killed in the process.Dominicans generally are ill-discipline and love breaking the rules especially drivers, because they never gets punished when doing so but rather being sypathised with by some apologist. When laws and rules are broken, one should be punished sending serious mesaage to all otherrs.U spare the rod,u spoil the child!
Sorry to here this, Lowell we keep you guys in mind
I no you from small child growing up in massacre never been in any trouble,i no the pain you and your mother matilda royer is going through,my prayers are with the family,be strong in the lord he will guide you to the end of the court days. dominican like to juge other peolpe only god can judge us,keep on praying to god for strengh and courage hold your head up high my br.one love.
Oh he and his mother in pain, Dominicans like to judge but no sympathy for th Alie family? You see all you people!!! tanto tanto. An accident is an accident but you are insensitive. He must hold his head up for what? Is it a badge of honour to full your ass with rum and drive on the wrong side of the road and take a man’s life?
Well this is certainly aweful news. First I would like to offer my sincerest condolenses to the family of the deceased…” a death in the family is never easy, but feels even worst when someone else is responsible”. AS FOR LAYNE: I have know him since he was a little kid, and he was and is a good kid. While accidents do happen, they must be explained. There need to be a reason for the incident and if Layne is responsible he should be held responsible. In other countries vehicular homicide is charges to people who are under the influence or driving recklessly and the drivers is not allowed to drive for a period of time and or serve some gail time as punishment. Of course this will not change what happened, but it will serve as a stern warning to others that a car is not a toy, but a 2 ton projectile! Layne, I pray that you were within your rights, but I also pray for the family of the one who lost their loved one … May his soul rest in peace. Please D/ca brothers drive safely… the roads are not meant to race and fool around on, this is not the fast and furious!
@hmmmmmm one is innocent until proven guilty so do not be too quick to condem him he is human!!
my condolences go out to the family of both parties involve in the accident.the police have a job on their hand to find out the person who was driving the transport that let the guy cross the road.the reason y layne end up on the right side is because he avoided hitting the transport that stop on the HIGH WAY and as a driver your first reaction is to avoid an accident.he avoided the transport and see what happen.the police report have people saying he was driving on the wrong side of the road SMH so people have the notion that since by the port he on the right side of the road lol but is not you all fault is the policeman report.hold strong layne
This is why we should never jump to conclusions!!!
if I was trying to get out of layne’s position that is the story I would use!!
If he had that much momentum to tanglay the man body like that then he was SPEEEEEEDING DAMNIT……
them thing there makes me ANGRYYYYYYYYYY at my fellow countrymen…. NO FREAKING EXCUSE MAN… If he was going at a the speed limit he would have been able to stop and ALIE would have gotten away with a broken leg at the most!
damn liar! go and pray..
AND BESIDES! from time you leave the port going into town IT’S ONE LANE! NO OVERTAKING! so had he been driving normally he would have slowed on his approach to fond cole health center…. time to errect a speed bump in that area. people always on that crossing there. even on sunday have sea bathers!! stupes boy that sad that a man looking down crossing the road didn’t even have the opportunity to save his own life, not expecting a vehichle to be coming from that direction. poor fella
If he was driving on the wrong side of the road
he is responsible for causing the guy’s death. He
should plead guity. A father, son, brother and an
uncle is gone. Things happens but if he not who is. My condolences to his family
well, well well. I remember the Case of Ian Didier who was knocked down in the most vicious way and killed and the police has been dragging the case and treating the lady who killed him as the victim. She was never put in costody like other people. She even saying he was a paro,sh know him so well that she know what he was. To avoid all this U hit HIm with a police car u were driving. u are GUILTY. God knows and he will give u his judgement.jah guide Rest IN PEACE Ian
I don’t think there is any reason that would justify someone driving on the wrong side of the road.we all know accidents happen but there “accident” and there is just being careless
It is always sad to hear of a death of a love one or close friend. with that said, one must be mindful that this was an accident! This is not a murder and hence the reason for him being granted bail. There are hundreds of reasons that one could be driving on the wrong side of the road so let us not speculate as to why. He will have his day in court to answer to the charge
We all make mistakes, no one wants to deliberately kill someone. The Wayne that I know would never want to do that. Wayne hold strong, pray for God’s help. God is a great God, I know the pain you and your mom are going through. The family of the victim I share your pain as well, and we must remember that two families are in grief and the judge and jury here is the Almighty father. To the both families I say hold on to the belief that “The Almighty does not give us more than we can bear, and if he takes us to it, he will take us through it”. My prayers and thoughts are with both grieving families, be strong and God Bless you. Rather than we just blasting each other let us be a little more caring people. After all we are all each other’s keeper.
His name is Layne not Wayne..
P.S and i did like your comment..
Was he intoxicated and tired? Was he partying? It is time to take driving seriously and be cautious. When will some DA drivers drive cautiously? What is wrong with you that you do not obey road regulations? You need to take a course in discipline and road courtesy. Even though you are on the right side of the road, you must still drive carefully and look out for other drivers and pedestrians. Who knows? A pedestrian could cross the street and get knocked down, injured or killed. Of course, this may not be your fault. Another driver may be driving recklessly and cross in front of you. Everyone must look out for the other. This is also called safe driving.
This goes to show, always drive cautiously. Obey road regulations and the speed limit. Keep your eyes on the road at all times. Do not play loud music so as not to get distracted. Keep the music and singing low key. There are times while driving conversations must be kept to a minimum and on a low tone.
Once an accident occurs, there is no turning back. There will be regrets but those who are injured could be maimed for life. A life lost can never be regained. Play it safe! Drive safely!
I want first to sympathise with the family of the victim.I pray that almighty God will give them the strength to go through this difficult time.Layne i also pray that the good Lord will also help you as he sees please.I know that some people have already started judging you…look at those judging you already!Dont fret my co-worker and friend,God’s ways are NOT like man’s ways. His ways are higher than that of man.He understands and forgives.Man doesnt.any hold on my boy B.L.God will see you through!!
Heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. Layne, we can only know what happened when u do stand trial. In the mean time, trust and pray and ask for pardon. This reminds me of the accident at Silver Lake some time ago where Lizette (I believe tht was her name)caused death by driving and took Ian’s life. Whatever became of tht case because from what I hear she is out on bail, in the Virgin Islands with some “friend” having fun.
O Layne,I was so sorry to hear about this situation. You had such a quiet personality when I worked with you a few years ago so this must be a traumatic event for you. Hope you can cope with whatever is the outcome of this case.
Layne is my old classmate from DGS. We were actually good friends then. Both loved our video games. He was the first man to introduce me to Battletoads. Good old times. Driving on the wrong side of the road sounds sketchy. If his recklessness did in fact cost the deceased his life then he should be made to pay. Last I knew, Lane came from a well-to-do family. Hopefully the legal system sorts this out and brings it to a just conclusion.
@CAH-C-Bruce, He was also my class-mate from DGS. I never knew him to be reckless or to get into trouble. I actually saw him a few weeks before this, and know his kids and girlfriend. Never once did I believe he was being reckless. Me too would expect there to be some sort of punishment regardless, because another human life was taken.
To those who are making so much ridiculous statements without knowing one bit of fact, the victims family has been in touch with him and is also showing their support even through their difficult time.
He’s having an equally terrible time dealing with this himself and i’m sure he wish it never happened.
So to the family of the victim, may God give you the strength to get through this difficult time. And to every driver out there, please be more cautious.
qstorm78 thanks for the update. When I knew Lane he was never a trouble maker at all. Him and I were pretty much nerds to say the least. Sadly, things like these can happen to all of us. I will keep both lane and the deceased family in my prayers. God will get him through.
Sad on the both sides….first of all he was on the wrong side of the road. His license should be revoked for some years
ok g l t yes
the question is why or what was he doing on the wrong side of the road.heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved
agnes
I am asking why a young man, who killed another young man was doing at his home all the time? Shouldn’t he be temporarily detained? The accident happened during the weekend but Layne was not held in the cell until bail time; he was at his home, while a family was grieving. It is so unfair.
I am also shocked that it is only today Layne was granted bail….10 days after he killed an innocent man; yet, he lies at his home.
As his father in law… they helping to cripple the justice system.. if it was someone else they would be on the hard floor in the cell sleeping plus waiting in prision until hearing
I am amazed by the number of peps on here who is expressing sorrow for Layne. I wonder if these sorrowful expressions would be written if Samuel was one of your family.
Don’t get me wrong but Layne violated several traffic laws such as speeding, slight intoxication and driving on the wrong side of the road resulting in an untimely death of a HUMAN, not an animal..and it is Samuel’s family I am feeling sorry for. They now have to evoke money to bury him….
Layne and all other careless drivers need to be pay for their carelessness. Like Mamo once said, “Dominicans drive fast to go nowhere”.
@hmmmmmm well give him a chance to defend himself nuh, he is innocent until proven guilty
people who deliberately kill people on more than one occassion are on bail why cant he? I am not condoning, I do feel for the victims family, my sympathy goes out to them, but be real.
If driving on the wrong side of the road is not careless (not to mention stupid), then I’d like to know how Mr Royer defines careless.
Mr Alie’s family is left to mourn his death, due to Mr Royers’s negligence.
He (Mr Royer) should have just pleaded guilty and saved the courts time and spare Mr Alie’s family more heartache.
man you can say thank you Dominica justice system is sweet because no way you would have get bail in one of those French island, they need to take his license from him if he have one because once you kill some one by dangerious driving you should never have to drive again.
Sorry to say that but Dominica has no law.
No one has to be “perfect” to DRIVE IN THEIR LANE!!!
It’s not a mistake when you GROSSLY ignore the rules of the road, and carelessly so. U going into the oncoming lane. WELL SLOW DOWN NUH AND PRACTICE CAUTION…. but NOOOOO…. and still pleading not guilty…boy allu good in allu……..
they should give him 25 years to life
One man steals money and gets bailed for $125,000 and another man kills through negligence and his bail is $75,000. This legal system is a real joke
all the sympathy is for layne. LAYNE STILL HAVE HIS LIFE….what about Alie?????????????????? where is his life….. I forget layne life worth more than his right??????????
It is high time Dominica begun seriously punishing it’s drivers. People are getting away with murder here. literally. Law suits should be filled and people should pay. This is wrong.
Aw na pal how dominca get there na
its indeed heartbreaking to read such news because no one really wins in situations like these. feeling sorry for wat he did does not justify the hurt he has caused to another family nonetheless he has just started a small family of his own…layne has a fiance and children..something blanc will never have in dis lifetime….layne’s family will and himself will have to live with this for the rest of dere lives mayb adversely ffect him in the future or that of his children…god forbid yet blanc’s family wil have to come to terms with the tragic way he died…oooh the uncertainties of life…we have no idea wat lies around the corner or with the next step or blink of an eye…Jah only knows….no one wants to be in a situation like that….and i would’ve been more sympathetic to Layne if he had admitted and accepted what he did to himself and then to the rest of Dominica…instead he chose to plead not guilty..tsk tsk…wat webs we weave for ourselves….but my dear the truth shall set u free…mayb not physically but consciously and for u to be better b able to live ur life….#seek jah first
i think this guy should have plead guilty and get it over with instead of putting his fate of the hands of a jury.
y plead guilty ? you know the cause of the accident ? do you know why he was on the wrong side of the road ?
@ love
He is guilty, driving on the wrong side of the road and killing the pedestrian who was crossing. He disobeyed road regulations.
The poor man. Consider him crossing and then seeing an oncoming vehicle, too late for him to dash away from it. How sad he lost his life through a reckless driver and he pleads not guilty. He should simply plead guilty and get it over and done with. Does he hope to be acquitted? I hope not. A man lost his life because of his negligence and this is a serious offence. He may regret it but he cannot bring him back. Too late for regret. They must drive carefully and keep to their side of the road at whatever time of day or night in so doing many injuries and deaths could be avoided.
He plead not guilty to careless driving, not causing death
I’m sorry for the loss of the families concerned. I think that it is time for more serious policing as it relates to traffic and traffic violations. For any person causing death our injury to an individual while operating a motor vehicle they should have their license revoked or for a period of time in which period they aren’t allowed operate any vehicle. We need random traffic stops especially on weekends for persons driving under the influence and heavy fines to go with it. We need properly lighted and designated crossing areas on major roadways and fines for the people who don’t abide or use these crossing areas. On areas approaching more populated areas after highways, proper signage, lighting and speed bumps to ensure vehicles reduce sorted on approaching those
Speed on approaching these areas. Its time to step up on better managing our roads.
alas mistakes happen sometimes but i hope is not under the influence of alcohol..cause your would be rotting in jail all now..rip blanc ants will bring news for you!!
Sad to read, but what caused him to be driving on the wrong side of the road?I lost my precious niece to a careless driver who tried overtaking 3 other vehicle’s.Simpathy is going out from me to the deceased family.
Everybody’s is a hurry these days.. Before y’all start speeding I want u to think about this situation..
…And it seems that the others will not learn to drive cautiously as accidents continue to occur.
condolences to the family on their loss. Layne mayb jah guide and keep you. Mistakes happen, noone is perfect.
True, no one is perfect but we all have to suffer the concequences of our actions. I feel for Layne, but he’s reckless driving took an innocent’s man life and that must be considered.
True he should suffer the consequences of his action but do you think the man is happy with what has happen? do you think it is an easy thing to deal with knowing that your action caused the death of someone? I sympathise with the families on both sides because it is a hard thing to deal with all around but stop treating the man like he is a wilful murderer!! inspite of him speeding and being on the wrong side of the road, it was not premeditated, it was not wilfull and this could have happen to the most perfect driver. Personally I do not know anyone of the persons involve nor their families but it is sad situation on both sides
Sorry dude, Mistakes don’t happen, things are caused, every action results in an equal and opposite reaction and sometimes deadly reaction
doe try that!!!!!!!!!!!!! allu coming and look for sympathy for layne hERE….
best thing allu can doe for layne is advise him to take ownership of his carelessness…. I know both these guys…I went to school with layne…
better you all kill that on dno…. because I waiting for allu
what dat making him not guilty dere?
Me self want to know
alas <wish u all the best my love
Layne my prayers are with you, hold strong my brother, you’re gonna get through this
What he has to hold strong for? Wat about the family of the man who died?
i agree with u massacre girl hold strong bro we don’t expect the best out of life, we just have to live it to the max and nobody is perfect, just ask god for help to guide u and don’t worry with bad talkers they could have been in your place as i already said nobody is perfect hold strong peace
This guy should face the , why was he driving on the wrong side of the road? We need answers… Th should be banned for driving for years.
We need CCTV, speed limit signs, speed bumps, and casmras to capture vechicles speed once they go above the limit.
It time government bring in new traffic laws with the creation of new high ways. this is long over due, it should be implemented with the opening of this high ways
This man JUST killed somebody and he is already free on bail? Am I missing something? What has happened to the justice system in Dominica?
mind ur biznis…..is dat dat missin. u never made a mistake in ur life befor?
Father in law
we’re on a slippery slope to lawlessness
Nothing is wrong with the justice system. It’s a bailable offence. The court acted in accordance with the law.I don’t know the young man but i feel sorry for both families, especially those of the deceased. If many drivers would stop acting like A##holes on the roads while trying to show off or impress other people then a lot of accidents could be avoided. The number of road fatalities would be reduced significantly.
Sad, eh? The man died through his negligence and he is walking the streets as practically a free person and probably hoping to be acquitted. You notice how in this case life is not fair.
