Money laundering matter adjourned sine die

High Court fineThree persons, Edgar Peltier, Arah Davis and her son Jhawnie Gage, who have been indicted on money-laundering charges were today told that their matter has been adjourned “sine die” by high court Judge Bernie Stephenson of the criminal division of the court.

Zena Moore Dyer, counsel for Davis and Gage, and David Bruney for Peltier told the court that they had applied for and obtained leave for “judicial review” and hence the criminal matter now pending before the court has been “stayed.”

All three were arraigned in the September assizes but the matter was traversed to January 2014.

“Your matter has been adjourned sine die, to be reopened upon service to this criminal court upon an order and outcome coming from the civil proceedings,” Justice Stephenson said. She also reminded them that in the meantime, they remained on bail on the same terms and conditions they previously obtained.

Money laundering what? Both in NY and Miami I heard Mr. Lenox Linton accusing Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit of being involved in money laundering. To date neither Skerrit, nor his lawyers whose names Lenox also called have denied it or threatened to take Lenox before the court. When the office of the PM has been put in such disrepute and no one opening their mouth, what sense it makes to waste time and tax payers money on much smaller targets?

Adjourned for what? What judicial review? The attorneys had since September to study the case and prepare it. Would it be a sign that this case may be quashed? Attorneys’ tricks? We hope this case will not be quashed. It must be heard and the appropriate sentence be handed down.

sine die means adjourned without a set date to return.. they are to get a date for criminal court when the judge gets an order with the outcome of the civil proceedings

Giggs, “Sine die” means without a date. The court has no date set for the matter to be reopened. Could be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year or next couple of years or maybe never. It depends on when the matter is reviewed then they will set a new date

Is that equal to saying ” No Case’?

Adjournment sine die (from the Latin “without day”) means “without assigning a day for a further meeting or hearing”.[1] To adjourn an assembly sine die is to adjourn it for an indefinite period

A court may adjourn a matter sine die, which means the matter is stayed permanently. This may be due to various reasons, for example if the case is started with a wrong procedure chosen the judge may adjourn the matter sine die so that the party may choose to start the action again with the correct procedure. [4] It may also be thus adjourned if there is no possibility of proceeding in the foreseeable future—for example an action may be adjourned sine die if the individual is in prison and there is no prospect of continuing the action at that time. In a sine die adjournment of this type, the hearing stands open indefinitely, and could theoretically be resumed if the situation changed.

Court is just prolonging the inevitable…..ridiculous judicial system, I believe the lawyers can do better, ample amount of time was given for the case to take the correct course for the judge to dissolve the matter rather than sine die

You asked. You could have checked it on the computer research and relevant sites. Anyway, no problem. I did. :) It means:

Adjournment sine die (from the Latin “without day”) means “without assigning a day for a further meeting or hearing”. To adjourn an assembly sine die is to adjourn it.

Sine die – Definition and More from the Free Merriam – Definition of SINE DIE: without any future date being designated (as for resumption): indefinitely
Sine die is Latin and is defined as indefinitely, or without a future date set.
The committee was adjourned sine die.

The new tactic to delay the criminal cases, used by those who can afford to pay lawyers big money and are also well connected is “Judicial Review” and after that the case will just disappear.
