Head of the Traffic Department, ASP Matthew Cuffy, has said there will be an increased presence of the police in Roseau during the Christmas season.

Cuffy also said in an interview with state-owned DBS Radio that the police are also seeking the help of Dominicans in reporting criminal activities.

“We are trying to increase the man power … and basically have a larger police presence in the city,” he said.

He stated the public should report any suspicious activities to the police during the festive season and when cruise ships are in port.

“We are also asking the general public to open their eyes and assist us in that regard because the police cannot see everything, especially where we have the Christmas season coming up,” Cuffy stated.

He noted that with an increase in ships in port, Dominicans should be on the lookout.

“So we would like the public to assist us in that regard in case they come across and suspect any suspicious activity, feel free to report it to the police immediately so that in itself can assist in the arresting the problems or the issues we are faced with in terms of security,” he stated.

Cuffy noted that the Traffic Department is expected to receive a boost in man power in the new year.

“We would like to see an improvement in police presence. That is paramount. The Chief of Police has blessed us with a few more men at the traffic and the tourism departments and we hope that continues because we still are in more need for more men in these departments,” he said. “It would better able to manage the task ahead, so we are looking forward in 2016 to get at least another 20 men for the traffic department.”

The police have recently expressed concerns over a rise in criminal activity on the island recently.

“Bad boys, bad boys, what you gonna do? What you gonna do when they come for you? Carbon ain’t gonna give you no break! CID ain’t gonna give you no break!” This Christmas quite a few people will be singing carols from a jail cell. Laugh now, cry later. Criminals they are coming for you!!!!

All the bread in one basket,, one word– utter rubbish, and we should get the person who set the fire to investigate the cause of the fire.

Why is it that the poilice officers always seem to congregate together at some junction laughing and joking instead of patrolling the streets by looking and behaving like police men and women. The style of policing in Dominica is quite pathetic and ineffective. It appears to me that they work between the hours of 8 to 4, for it is very rear to see a police patrolling the streets after dark.

You are so right ,I walked in roseau in september and i never saw a police officer under the hot sun walking any where except next to the bridge on the side walk talking to his friend about pretty women with big bottom,i can remember he said “as long as i see that woman boy she so pretty with a big arse I know dat is the one i would put some thing on…although I allowed him to see that i was listening he was not bothered,i honestly listened to him with my eyes straight into his because he had a police uniform..that is the type of little boy police that is in dominica,,wearing a uniform ,help their friends, trying their best to screw women and eat the gov’t’s money without doing a fat..

When ever people are not reporting what ever crime they see to the police it is simple because they have lost trust in the police. The public have no idea whether the gov’t will be able to protect them from reprisal…no matter how much they might promise to keep it a secret there might be one police officer who will not, this happens ever where ,a few months aback in an EU country , a man’s photo, name and address was shown on the news after 20 years by the police after he allowed the police to know who was the murderer ,he finally had to sell his house, change town ,do plastic surgery to have a new face and to cut every link with family and friends to save his life ..,,,the gov’t should put free phones for the public to help instead of asking people to come forward to tell them what they know about crimes in the country,,,the gov’t needs to make a C.OD.I.S style file or a DATA BASE in order to know who is doing what and to find them easy then punish them according to the crime.

Drug dealing in lower River Street, right there in the open and the police not batting an eyelid. So what is the point of reporting anything if it can only get yourself into trouble?

This is comedy central, when you call the police they tell you to call an other department and most of the time they never show ,my cousin car was stolen infront of his house the car was spotted in Roseau we called the police they told us to call the traffic division we did and no one showed up. Dominica has a long way to go interms of policing ,Chines, gas station, homes, rob at gun point ,the chief of police need to step-up his game leadership start at the ,top all I see is window dressing, and smoke and mirrows.
